Chapter 149 Sorcerer’s Portal
TL: Kyous
After subduing the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, Peter approached Otto again and examined Otto’s condition from a distance. Currently, Otto was motionlessly hanging onto the wall with his tentacles. Peter couldn’t resist shouting, “Hey, Dr. Octavius! Are you okay?”
But Otto remained silent. Peter steeled his heart and swung over, intending to remove Otto’s helmet. Just as he reached two meters within Otto, the broken tentacle charged at him like a swinging bat while another tentacle widened its claw, clamping toward him.
Stepping onto the broken tentacle, Peter dodged the incoming claw and retreated a few steps back to a safe distance.
Perhaps due to the disruption, Otto’s original four limbs were flailing as if struggling. As one of the tentacles was damaged, the Intracranial Transmission Device was affected and Otto’s consciousness temporarily recovered. He raised his hand, scrambling to reach for the helmet and attempting to remove it. However, he tried several times without success and could only helplessly give up.
“Hey, Dr. Octavius. Are you okay?” Seeing Otto move, Peter asked once again. This time he didn’t disguise his voice but used his original voice.
Otto heard the familiar voice and stared at Spider-man in surprise, “Peter?!”
“That’s right, it’s me, Doc. How are you right now?”
“I can’t take it off. I can feel it’s trying to erase my consciousness. Peter, help me.”
Peter promptly approached Otto again, trying to remove the helmet. Yet the tentacles struck again in a fierce manner. He believed Doc had woken up and the claws wouldn’t attack again. Startled, he got hit and forced to retreat.
“Peter, I can’t control them. It’s the helmet controlling them to attack you and it’s still invading my mind.” Otto anxiously shouted, “I don’t think I can hold on for long! Hurry up and think of something.”
Once again, Peter charged forward. The broken and intact tentacles assaulted him again. But this time, he was prepared as he instantly fired tons of spider webs, tightly wrapping the intact tentacle.
His strength was far stronger than the tentacles. Tugging the web with his right hand and clutching the broken tentacle with his left hand, he tied the two tentacles together forcibly. Utilizing this opening, he stormed through the tentacles’ defense and Otto was right in front of him.
Out of expectation, one of the other two tentacles hanging onto the wall released its grip. As if knowing it couldn’t stop Peter, it retracted and pointed its sharp claws at Otto’s abdomen. As though the claws were saying, “If you dare to remove the helmet, I’ll kill Otto first!”
Peter immediately halted himself as the hand he stretched out also froze in the spot. The other two tangled tentacles took advantage of his immobilization and smashed him straight back.
“No! It wasn’t me! Why would I kill myself?!” Otto stared at the claws at his stomach, stupefied.
He lifted his head and looked at the surroundings. The entire building turned into rubble. Thick piles of debris covered the ground. It was unknown whether or not there were any casualties.
Otto cried out in agony, “No! This can’t be me! How can I do such a thing?!”
All of a sudden, he felt a sense of dizziness in his brain to the point of losing consciousness. He gritted his teeth and held on for dear life, but not much longer.
Taking a deep breath, he made a decision and shouted at Peter, “Peter, kill me. Kill me! I don’t know what I will do again if this thing controls me! Kill me before I do any irreversible damage!”
But how could Peter do such a thing? Moreover, the claws were taking Otto’s life as a hostage. He couldn’t act rashly, thus freezing on the spot.
Then, a black figure descended from the sky and instantly hovered next to Peter.
“Mr. Erwin, what should we do now? Is there any way to save Dr. Octavius?” Peter was out of ideas and hurriedly pleaded with Leo for help.
Leo looked at the claws sticking onto Otto’s stomach and shook his head. The claws were too close, it would tear Otto apart instantly. He wasn’t confident to save Otto.
Otto was still desperately mumbling to himself, “Peter, please! Kill me! I’ve already decided to end my life! The moment I put on the helmet, I decided to end everything with my death! The disease within my body is destined! It’s pointless! Those who died will die, those who lived will live! Forcing it will end up just like me! I’m ready to enter hell!”
As though remembering the teachings in Nepal during his trip, his words gradually became enigmatic. Soon, his following words weren’t English anymore, he was reciting in Sanskrit.
“Peter, how about doing as Dr. Octavius wishes? Death isn’t necessarily an ending, it may be a beginning for him.” Leo was clearer than anyone else about Doc Ock’s ending. Looking over his shoulder at Peter, he tried to console Peter.
Peter pulled off his mask. Both of his eyes were reddened as he stared at the reciting Otto with sadness and struggle, hesitating to make a decision.
Abruptly, the sadness in his eyes became astonishment. He pointed behind Leo and exclaimed, “Mr. Erwin, Look! There’s light behind Doc!”
Leo turned over and as expected, there was a golden light flashing behind Otto’s neck. The flash became bright akin to a shining star. As the flash gradually got bigger, it eventually formed a circle.
A hand appeared out of the circle and grabbed the integrated wire on Otto’s head. With a yank, the wire was pulled out. The tentacles let out an imaginary cry and instantly lose their function, hanging down limply.
Losing the tentacles’ support, instead of falling downward, Otto’s body slighted onto the staircase as if the direction of gravity around his body changed.
Meanwhile, the circle behind Otto became bigger and eventually became a person’s height, illuminating the surroundings.
Peter was unaware of what the golden circle was, thus his jaw was wide open. But after the initial surprise, Leo’s mouth curled up higher and higher.
‘This VFX! This shape! Isn’t this the portal that those sorcerers in Marvel used for traveling, fighting, and sending parcels?!’
Nonetheless, from Leo and Peter’s perspective, the portal was slightly slanted, making the two of them only see a flat oval and couldn’t see what was behind the portal. It was unknown whether or not this was intentional.
After the Intracranial Transmission Helmet was destroyed, Otto had a mental shock and immediately regained his senses. Attracted by the golden light, he peered into the portal over his shoulder and was stunned, “Sorcerer Kaecilius?!”
A deep voice came out from the portal, “Mr. Octavius, please follow me. Ancient One wishes to see you.”
Without waiting for Otto’s reply, Otto’s surrounding gravity changed abruptly, and fell into the portal alongside the four tentacles. The portal shut immediately, vanishing into thin air.
