Chapter 150 Belated Bucky and Natasha
TL: Kyous
Otto along with the tentacles fell into the portal and the portal shut instantly, vanishing.
All of these happened in a fraction of a second. Peter didn’t even bother closing his mouth due to his astonishment and hurriedly swung over to the place where Otto was standing.
“Huh? What the hell?!” Peter groped the place where the portal was and realized there was nothing. It was as if the portal was just an illusion.
Leo flew over too and hovered at the portal’s initial location while pondering something. When he heard Otto shouting “Socerer Kaecilius”, he was shaken for a moment and thought Otto had gone onto the pathway of evil. But when he heard Kaecilius uttering “Ancient One wishes to meet you”, his nerve relaxed.
Judging from this, Kaecilius was still Ancient One’s disciple and hadn’t leaned onto Dormammu yet.
‘However, what the hell are these sorcerers doing? If you want to train Otto to be a sorcerer, then don’t send him back from Nepal! Now you’re taking him back after he joined the dark side for a bit, what’s the point in it?! Making Peter worried for nothing! Is this a test to become a sorcerer?! If that’s the case, then Norman really is truly unlucky!’
By the way, Norman was dead, by falling.
Through the helmet, Peter couldn’t see Leo’s expression but he sensed Leo wasn’t surprised by Otto’s disappearance.
Peter puzzledly asked, “Mr. Erwin, you know who took Dr. Octavius away and to where?”
Leo nodded, “Don’t worry, Peter. I know where Dr. Octavius went. If I’m not wrong, then he should have returned to Kamar-Taj in Nepal. The man just now is one of the mystic people I’ve mentioned before.”
“The group who taught Dr. Octavius to meditate?” It looked like Otto had shared the details of his Nepal trip with Peter. “But Doc said they’re a group of charlatans.”
“But they’re not, they are sorcerers. A group of people who study magical power and Kamar-Taj is their sanctum.” Leo explained, “They brought Otto away meant Otto had the potential of being a sorcerer. Don’t worry, Peter, they won’t hurt Otto.”
Peter nodded and inquired, “Then, can they heal Doc’s body?”
“Otto will recover, you don’t have to worry about this.” Leo chuckled, “I believe the next time we meet him, he’ll be a hundred times healthier than normal people.”
Yet Peter was still concerned and continued asking, “Mr. Erwin, can we go to Nepal and find Dr. Octavius ourselves? I want to meet him myself.”
“Sure, but there’s no need to rush. When the time matures, I’ll bring you to Kamar-Taj to visit him. By then, I’m sure you’ll be surprised by Otto.” Then, Leo added an offhand comment, “In fact, those sorcerers also have a sanctum in New York, but I’m not sure where it is. Or else, we can go there and have a look. Besides, maybe after a while, Otto will appear in New York by himself.”
Hearing Leo’s saying such, Peter calmed down. Only then did he remember the escaped green monster. “Mr. Erwin, what about that green monster? Did you catch it?”
“He’s dead,” Leo answered.
“He?”
“Yup, as you’ve imagined. That green monster is a man. To be precise, he’s someone you know and is familiar with.”
“Who?” Peter frowned.
“It’s unsuitable to talk about this here. Let’s return to my lab first. I’ll be waiting for you there.” With that, Leo took flight into the sky.
Peter nodded and swung toward El Tech Company as well.
……
The speed of Natasha and Bucky’s car naturally was incomparable with Leo soaring in the sky. When Otto was picked up by Kaecilius, they finally arrived at the Waterfront District.
Moreover, as the New York police were evacuating the masses in a one-kilometer radius, the car they were driving was stopped by the police without exception.
“Excuse me, there’s a martial law ahead. Please take another path.” A middle-aged officer waved his torchlight twice, stopping them and leaning over their car window while patiently explaining.
Both of them exchange a glance and choose to comply before turning around. However, after they drove for 200 meters, Bucky found a shady alley and dove in.
Five minutes later, two sneaky figures were approaching No. 56, Waterfront District and it was Bucky and Natasha. The blockade formed by the NYPD was virtually meaningless to them as they easily circumvented it.
“Did a demolition crew pass by?” Looking at the half-demolished residential building, Bucky slightly frowned.
Natasha also examined the surroundings suspiciously. Except for noticing a team of police officers, she found nothing. No S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, no Level 5 Non-personnel, and no main culprits for demolishing the building.
She wondered internally, ‘Has the non-personnel been rescued by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents? And the culprits have also been dealt with? Has the operation ended? But the police blockage is still there! How can this be?!’
Ring! Ring! Ring!
All of a sudden, a melodious tune rang from Bucky’s body. Before the tune could last for two seconds, it paused abruptly. Although the sound was soft, it was extremely ear-catching in the silent night.
The NYPD noticed the abnormality as a group of five officers with guns in their hands swiftly rushed over to Bucky and Natasha’s hiding spot. Nonetheless, the spot was emptied by the time they arrived. The officers discovered nothing after searching around and could only heighten their vigilance.
Behind a wall fifty meters away, Natasha was grumbling at Bucky, “You’re too careless with your infiltration! How could you forget to set your mobile phone to silent mode?!”
Bucky pulled out a palm-sized device from his pocket and said rather embarrassingly, “Leo gave me this mobile phone a while ago. I never used this kind of thing before, so I’m not used to it.”
Natasha didn’t continue complaining but urged, “Hurry up and see who’s calling you.”
“Okay.” Bucky pressed the key on the phone, but the screen remained unlit. This further Bucky’s embarrassment as he scratched his head, “It’s broken.”
Natasha took over the phone and had a look, noticing there were several cracks on the phone’s plastic cover and even the battery deformed.
“Huh? You’re just hanging up a phone, how did you manage to break it?!” She was extremely perplexed. Mobile phones were an expensive item and the one Leo gave to Bucky was Motorola’s most advanced model. A single of it cost thousands, almost half of her wage!
One won’t understand the importance of rice without being the head of a household. Lately, she had been working all day long without a single penny and at night, she had to take care of a child. Her daily pocket money had to be redeemed from Ol’ Tom. She had put the utmost importance on money recently.
“The situation was rather urgent, so I pressed it a bit harder. Who would know this thing is so fragile? Breaking from a single press.” Continuing scratching his head, Bucky was even more embarrassed.
She rolled her eyes inward and internalized, ‘Well, you can even bend a steel beam just by pressing it a bit harder…’
Bucky hurriedly smiled, “But it’s definitely Leo calling. Only he has my phone number.”
Suddenly, as if figuring something out, he added, “When we left, I told Leo where we’re heading. Maybe he flew over and solved the matter and now he’s calling us to tell us about it?”
She felt Bucky’s explanation made sense, otherwise, Leo wouldn’t call in the middle of the night for fun. Furthermore, there was no one around No. 56, Waterfront District, but the police blockade was still there. If the involved people were to leave through the sky, then everything fit the puzzle.
Pocketing the damaged phone carefully, she figured she could ask Leo to fix it.
“Let’s go. Let’s find Leo at El Building.” She decided to retreat immediately.
After all, there was nothing to be investigated here, and staying here might increase the risk of being exposed. As for the SHIELD agents from New York and the Level 5 Non-personnel, she couldn’t care less about their well-being. She just joined the S.H.I.E.L.D. not too long ago, and only listened to Fury’s words. The other members’ well-being was utterly irrelevant to her.
