The Luckiest Man - Chapter 59
Chapter 59: The Drug Has Been Stolen!
The military driver who was seated at the front was trying hard to control his laughter.
Nobody dared speak to Senior Officer Fang in such a tone after he had gotten the title of Lieutenant General. However, he had choked up upon seeing the true senior officer before him and was unable to utter a word.
“Yes—yes, I was too talkative.” Senior Officer Fang was sweating buckets.
Liu Huajun’s rank in the military was fantastic. If he had been proactive in being involved with politics, he would have been a senior commander by now. Within the military, he had mentored more than five big shots. He used to be the Battalion Commander and all the big names of the time had, at one point or another, been his soldiers. Could they take him lightly? Who wouldn’t have to call him Teacher respectfully when meeting him?
“Erm… Teacher Liu, shall we…” Senior Officer Fang respectfully invited, “The old friends have found a place for your welcome dinner, Teacher Liu. Shall we make our way there now?”
Liu Huajun closed his eyes and pondered for a moment. He nodded lightly and said, “Alright, it has indeed been long since I last saw them. Let’s go over now. We can talk about business after dinner.”
Senior Officer Fang knew very well what business Liu Huajun was referring to. He immediately replied, “Sure, let’s go now.”
The cookhouse in the military served food of high standards to receive Liu Huajun.
Upon his arrival, the whole table was already filled with dishes, and five men wearing the chief commander badge were already waiting there. When they saw Liu Huajun, they immediately stood up and saluted him, “Salute!”
Liu Huajun also replied with a standard military salutation before they laughed and sat down together.
One of them said, “Teacher Liu, look at you. You travelled such a long distance to get here. Anyways, we actually haven’t met for more than a decade right?”
“I’m too lazy to visit all of you good-for-nothing people.” joked Liu Huajun. He did not mean that and he was all smiles, he was just too lazy to give praises. He added, “I was in the mood today so I thought I would come and pay a visit. Come, let’s all take a seat. I came here today to discuss some things with you.”
The group of big shots all took their seats—as disciplined as primary school children.
They uniformly invited Liu Huajun to pick up his chopsticks first, “Teacher Liu, please dig in!”
“Yup.” Liu Huajun grabbed his chopsticks and took some vegetables before saying, “Everyone, please dig in too! About the matter I was talking about…”
Senior Officer Fang interrupted him, “Teacher Liu, you gave me a call earlier and said that you wish to utilize an Awakener Quota right? We are currently looking into it now. Teacher Liu, please do not worry, we will definitely get it for you.”
“What?” After hearing that, Liu Huajun instantly raised his brows and asked, “You mean my Awakener Quota has been taken?”
All the attendees shuddered in fear. Senior Officer Fang replied, “Before, didn’t you—”
Just as he was about to continue, someone kicked his feet under the table. He immediately changed his tone and continued, “We are experiencing a huge shortage for the Quota. We were pressed, there is no other quota to be ,so we have used yours. We thought we could fill it up later on, we didn’t expect you to be in such an urgent need for it…”
As they had their meal, Liu Huajun took a sip of the wine and said, “I know this is partly my fault. If not for that god-granddaughter of mine…”
Teacher Liu’s god-granddaughter?!
The moment they heard his words, everyone trembled in fear.
What type of people would be deserving enough to become the god-granddaughter of Teacher Liu?! Teacher Liu was known for turning away people… yet he had actually adopted a god-granddaughter?
“Erm, Teacher Liu, slow down.” Senior Officer Fang carefully asked, “When did you get a god-granddaughter? You should have told us about it so we could look out for her…”
“Take care of what?” Liu Haujun snorted, “My god-grandson and god-granddaughter are great. They are more capable than all of you by a hundred times, why would they need your help?”
Everyone was in a cold sweat – It was not just one but two? A god-grandson and a god-granddaughter?! And they were more capable than them?!
Senior Officer Fang was relatively more flexible with his thinking, so he easily guessed the situation and asked, “Teacher Liu, you said that you wanted an Awakener Quota…it was meant for your god-granddaughter?”
“That’s right.” Liu Huajun admitted honestly. He further asked, “So, what do we do now? Is there any way to get it?”
After getting a clear picture of the situation, everyone was more relieved. At least it was meant for someone related to Teacher Liu, that would make it easier. Coincidentally, there was a chance…
As he thought along that line, Senior Officer Fang immediately said, “Teacher Liu, I must say that you have pretty good luck. The drug is indeed hard to source right now, but we do have a good chance.”
He lowered his voice and asked, “Do you know about the prison in the capital?”
Liu Haujun nodded and said, “Yes, I know. What about it?”
“The warden of the prison, Zhou Mingchao, has applied for an Awakener Quota.” Senior Officer Fang started explaining the situation to Liu Huajun. “He has been doing well for the past two years, so the Quota was awarded to him as a form of encouragement. Of course, more importantly, due to the recovery of supernatural influence today, the management was worried that things may get out of hand in the prison when people are Awakened, so they gave Zhou Mingchao a place. In the end, before the drug was sent over, Zhou Mingchao was Awakened…”
Liu Haujun was happy to hear that and he said, “Aiyo, this is great. Can’t you just inform the management and give that Quota to me directly?”
“That’s why I said that you had good luck!” Senior Officer Fang slapped his thighs and said, “When I found out that you had come for the drugs, I immediately made a call and instructed them to keep the drug safe and not send it back to management. We could definitely send an appeal and I think it would most likely work!”
Liu Huajun was instantly relieved when he heard the news, feeling less worried. He immediately raised his glass and said, “Ha! It is rare that you guys are so dependable in handling things. Come, let’s drink!”
Liu Huajun was indeed the teacher of these big shots—he brought them up with his own efforts. They were very grateful for his guidance and they had a really nice meal together.
—–
The following morning arrived. Liu Huajun had had a good rest in the hotel.
Unexpectedly, the moment he woke up he heard someone knock on his door. When he opened it, he saw Senior Officer Fang covered in sweat, saying, “Teacher Liu, things are bad! The bottle of drugs belonging to Zhou Mingchao has been stolen!”
Zhou Mingchao’s drug had been stolen?
Liu Huajun was completely stunned.
What was going on?! The drug for an Awakener Quota—how important was that? Had it been stolen in the prison?! Which thief had dared steal something from a prison?!
“What exactly happened?”
After all, Liu Huajun was someone who experienced the Sino-Vietnamese War: he naturally had a strong psychological tenacity.
His first thought was that the situation sounded strange. There was at least an eighty percent chance that someone stealing something from the prison would be a spy!
He immediately asked, “Have you checked the facts? Was it really lost in the prison? Could there be a spy inside?”
