Chapter 15: Internet

It was the next morning when I woke up. I was alone in the room. I assumed that Ravi had returned to his room or gone to work.
I reached for my phone on the nightstand and saw a message from Emma.
“Go on Facebook,” she said in the message.
I opened my Facebook page and saw that my classmates were frantically sharing a few pictures. The number of views had reached 120,000 and was still rising.
In the photo, there were a few girls sitting with their backs to each other on the school’s football field. They were tied together with ropes, and their tops were torn. Their faces were swelling, as if they had been slapped. Each of them had a large label on their foreheads that said, “Campus Bully” and their respective names.
I recognized them. They were the girls who had hit me yesterday. I looked at the time on the bottom corner of the photo. It was taken yesterday afternoon after Ravi and I got home. Needless to say, this must be Ravi’s doing. The comment section was lively. Most people were on my side and thought these girls deserved it. I smiled and felt much better. I even secretly pressed “like” under the photo.
Suddenly, I remembered that people seemed to have taken pictures yesterday when I was attacked. Shit, the pictures of me being beaten might have spread like crazy on the Internet. I kept scrolling through my phone screen to search for these pictures of me. I searched for a long time but found none. No one uploaded them? Impossible. There’d never been a lack of people in the world who liked to create drama. There must be. After a few failed searches, I finally knew what was going on. There was an expert hacker in Ravi’s Mafia. He must have done something to prevent my pictures from being leaked.
I stretched, then got off the bed and headed for the bathroom.
I pushed open the door to find Ravi sitting on the toilet with his pants piled below his knees. I screamed as my phone fell to the floor and slid to his feet.
I quickly closed the bathroom door and stood outside while shouting, “Why are you in my bathroom?”
“This is my house.” Ravi raised his voice.
“This is my bathroom. Female bathroom.”
“You’re my woman.”
“Alright, come out quickly. I want to pee.”
“You can go to the bathroom in my bedroom. Suit yourself.”
I went to Ravi’s bedroom and went into the bathroom. I took off my pants and sat on the toilet. I had just sat down when I saw Ravi push open the door and come in. Startled, I immediately covered the lower half of my body with my pajamas. Ravi was standing in the door with his arms crossed over his chest and one leg bent over his knee as he leaned against the door.
“Can you get out?”
“This is my bathroom, the men’s bathroom.”
I burst out laughing. He walked in and held my phone in front of my eyes. My two hands kept tugging at my pajamas to make sure I wasn’t exposed.
Ravi smiled wickedly and squatted in front of me while placing my phone in my lap. Just then, my phone rang unexpectedly. It was Emma.
I gave Ravi a pitiful look and begged him to get out. He kissed me on the lips, then got up and walked away before closing the door behind him.
“Hey, Emma, how are you?”
“I’m fine, Irina. I’m in the hospital. Your friend sent me here yesterday. My injury has healed now. How are you? Are your injuries serious?”
“I’m fine too. They’re all superficial wounds.”
“I guess you already saw those pictures, Irina.”
“Yes, Emma. They deserve it.”
“But Suzy isn’t among these people.”
“What?”
“Suzy didn’t appear in the photo, but she started everything.”
I reopened my Facebook page and tried to identify the people in the photo. There was really no Suzy.
“Emma, I’ll hang up first. Call me when you’re free.”
“Okay, bye.”
I flushed the toilet and walked out of the bathroom. Ravi was sitting on his bed and had just hung up.
“Can I ask you a question?”
Ravi nodded.
“You did this?” I held up my phone and showed him the pictures that had been circulating like crazy online.
“Yes.”
“Where is Suzy?”
“Who is Suzy?”
“She’s the one who started the trouble yesterday. Why isn’t she in the photo?”
“She suffered the punishment she deserved.”
“What punishment?”
“You don’t have to know.”
“I want to know.”
“You don’t have to know.” Ravi raised his voice and walked out of the room with a domineering look in his eyes..
