Chapter 22: Escape

I stood alone in the living room for a long time while staring at everything in the mansion.
The white piano bathed in the moonlight didn’t belong to me. The bodyguards who patrolled the yard weren’t here to protect me. And Maria, who was busy in the garden, wasn’t here to take care of me. Everything had nothing to do with me.
I shouldn’t have been in Ravi’s life, and it wasn’t my intention to live with him. I wasn’t sure if Ravi’s feelings for me were love or possession. I wasn’t sure if my feelings for Ravi were love or gratitude.
But I was sure that I didn’t want anyone to die because of me. Life was so precious. All I had ever wanted was to live a good life. I had experienced the pain of being on the verge of death. I didn’t want anyone to endure such pain because of me.
It was the romance and the physical pleasure that blinded me. He was Ravi Rodriguez. He was a murderous demon. The Mafia had never been compassionate. How could I be so foolish as to fall for a demon? I turned around silently and walked up the stairs.
Thad to get out of here before he killed more people, before he got tired of playing with me and killed me. I tumed around and rushed down the stairs, then straight out the door. I reached the path beside the garden and was stopped by Daniel.
“Where are you going, Irina?” Daniel looked at me with a puzzled expression. He noticed that I had run out without even wearing my shoes.
It was only then that I caught my breath. Yes, where was I going? Where could I go? I smiled awkwardly and turned to leave.
I went back to my bedroom and seriously considered how I could escape here and leave Ravi.
In the moming, Daniel drove me to school. I had to ditch him first before I had a chance to escape.
“Daniel,” I said with a smile.
“Yes.”
“Iknow it’s your duty to protect me, but can you keep a distance from me? You’re making me feel awkward by following me.”
“No problem.” Daniel smiled back.
The day passed without incident. When school was over, it was time to make a move. I found Daniel standing at the back door of the classroom.
“Daniel, I want to go to the bathroom.”
“Okay, I’ll wait for you here.”
I went into the bathroom and closed the door. I quickly climbed out the bathroom window and then ran as fast as I could through the garden to the main road. I hailed a cab and headed for the marina. I knew my father had a yacht at the marina that he didn’t use for years. I could hide there first and then
buy a cruise ship ticket to Mexico.
It would definitely work.
‘When I reached the dock, the taxi drove away, but the further the taxi drove in, the more I felt like this dock was different from the one my parents had taken me to before. There were containers and cargo ships everywhere. I opened Google Maps. This was the cargo dock. The yacht dock was ten
kilometers away from me.
Suddenly, my phone rang. It was Ravi. I couldn’t let him track me through my phone’s GPS. I threw the phone into the sea, then kept walking.
The pier was huge and filled with containers that were a few stories high. I lost my way. My phone had been thrown into the sea, so now, I could only rely on myself. I kept walking in the direction the sun was setting in. I knew that was the direction to leave the pier.
At that moment, a group of people was walking toward me. I could clearly see that one of them was Raul. Shit! What was he doing here? Was he here to smuggle firearms or drugs? He saw me. I had to calm down. I couldn’t let him know that I was here alone.
“Cecilia, we meet again,” Raul called after me from afar.
“What a coincidence.” I pretended to be calm.
“Why are you here alone?”
“Ravi is meeting me here. I came with him.”
“Really? Then I have to greet him.”
“Forget it. He doesn’t want to see you.”
“Does he not want to see me, or did he get tired of you and dump you?”
“If you insist on seeing him, come with me. Don’t forget to put on your bulletproof vest and your helmet.” I put on an act and led Raul forward while feeling extremely nervous. I saw a cold storage unit not far away and walked straight over. “Ravi is inside. Do you want to go in and greet him?”
“Hahaha, Cecilia, has the Rodriguez Mafia switched to the seafood import and export business?”
T looked at Raul with a serious expression as my mind raced. “Do you think only seafood needs to be frozen? You’re so naive.”
“Haha, could it be firearms?”
“The answer is very close.”
Raul’s expression suddenly froze, as if he had thought of something. I could clearly see the fear in his eyes.
“Chemical weapons?” He frowned and said hesitantly.
“Bingo.” [ had an arrogant smile on my face. “Want to go in and see Ravi? I remember him saying that he would blow your head off if he saw you again. You’ve seen his marksmanship.”
“Bitch, you better pray to God every day that Ravi can provide for you for the rest of your life, or I’ll send you to hell as soon as he kicks you out the door.”
“Thanks for the warning.”
Raul didn’t leave immediately. His venomous eyes were glued to me to see if I would enter. I could only brace myself and open the door to the cold storage room before going in..
