Chapter 14.1
As soon as Yu-gyeom left the room and out of sight of the men guarding the door, he erased the smile from his lips. The moonlight coming through the window shone on his hardened face, oblivious to his increasing speed. He didn’t know why he gasped for breath with every step he took. He felt nauseous, his stomach was full of emotions he had never felt before. Simply put, it was an emotion close to unpleasantness. The eyes that looked directly at him did not disappear as if they were imprinted. As he turned around the corner while loosening his tie, his body collided with the person coming from the other side, and his body, unable to handle the speed at which he was walking, tilted back.
“Ahk? Oh, oh oh??”
A hand that had been floundering in the air clasped his collar tightly and fell backward.
“Ugh… which bastard–!”
Rubbing his tingling tailbone, he lifted his head and looked at Yu-gyeom’s face, and his eyes widened in embarrassment. He couldn’t finish his words, his mouth was a straight closed line.
“Chan.”
Looking down at him, Yu-gyeom wrapped his hands around his neck.
“Where are you going?”
It was a friendly voice, but strangely, the sharpness at the end was clear. An ordinary person might not have noticed it, but Lee Chan, who had been earning his living through awareness for over 27 years, quickly noticed it. Perhaps more than his master.
The reason was probably that woman. She was definitely a woman worthy of her name, Baek Hawon’s younger sister.
“Woah. Has it been three days? Suddenly, you brought Baek Hawon’s younger sister and left her to me, and I couldn’t even see a strand of your hair, so I thought there was something wrong. Hey. Haha. Hahahahaha.”
Sly but unnatural words saying what was in his mind came out of his mouth. Lee Chan tried hard to smile and pulled out the hand holding him. Yu-gyeom gently let go of his hand and rolled up the corners of his mouth. In the familiarity, the complex feeling of a while ago felt like a dream that was forgotten after waking up.
Yes, familiarity. That was all. He was already too used to people who reached out with a sympathetic touch beyond boredom. Utopia’s beautiful illegitimate child. It was a name that made them want to have him at least once. Everyone was drawn to the name and approached him, but they would leave because of it as well.
So this time it wouldn’t be any different.
“Did you meet Cha Yeonbyeol? Isn’t this the first time since a few days ago?”
Yu-gyeom moved in the direction he was going, and Lee Chan followed him. The Utopia building was rather shuttered, but the hallway on the 56th floor where Yu-gyeom’s room was located had a glass wall surrounding the curved hallway from the outside, so you could see the scenery below your feet. The night sky, which could be reached if he stretched out his hand a bit, resembled hair fluttering in the wind. Even the pupils that had captured him seemed to be of the same color.
When his memories overlapped, he felt as if he was looking at the sea at night instead of the sky. To be precise, the back looking down at the sea at night.
“We met.” A cold smile spread across Yu-gyeom’s lips as he replied briefly. It was the first time he saw her since the day he brought her. To say he monitored her sleeping habits was a lie. Her reaction was partly expected and partly not. He knew she would be embarrassed, but he didn’t think she would take it so boldly.
“By the way, do you know what I just heard?”
Even though he lowered his voice, conscious of his surroundings, Lee Chan was very excited. It wasn’t uncommon for him to get excited and make a fuss, so Yu-gyeom entered the room with a fingerprint device installed on the door without paying him much interest. His outstretched legs passed the long conference table and stopped in front of a wall. When he removed a blackout curtain that ran from the high ceiling and completely covered the wall, a tangled mess of notes and photos was revealed.
“You know, Yu-hwa’s smuggling he had been working on for months? He was very careful not to take the middle route and be caught right away.”
“How could I not know about what father has been looking forward to?”
Yu-gyeom answered indifferently and stretched his hand toward a picture on the wall. A photograph of a person who did not exist in the plan was attached to a corner out of sight.
“Right. But the Baekcheon intercepted it in the middle.”
Baekcheon. Upon hearing that name, Yu-gyeom withdrew the hand that couldn’t reach the picture and turned his head toward Lee Chan.
“Baekcheon?”
It was definitely something he wasn’t expecting. Baekcheon and Utopia were not on good terms from the beginning. It was Baekcheon, the person who the second chief of Utopia trusted the most, who betrayed him and left the organization. Since then, Baekcheon had grown in size at an incredible speed, and from a certain point had surpassed Utopia. Therefore, Utopia’s hatred toward them had been passed down through generations. However, it was Utopia that attacked openly, and it was rare for Baekcheon to directly attack.
“Something’s not right. We stole some stuff from the cruise that day, but we have done that more than once or twice. But Baekcheon has never bluntly punished us.”
There was only one reason.
“Looks like I picked up something huge.”
‘Cha Yeonbyeol. Baekcheon’s princess.’ Yu-gyeom, rolling the name around his mind, burst out laughing at the situation he could even understand.
“I might really have to go see her every day.”
It became clear that he would suffer a loss if he missed out on what he could gain from her, so he had no reason not to listen to any request that wasn’t difficult. The request that he thought was nonsense had suddenly become a reality.
But what was this vague feeling? He obtained a useful card, but it felt like he was holding sand in his hand.
“I thought it would be a good idea to call Baekcheon about three days after picking up the child.”
Lee Chan smiled. That laugh of his, which made him look like an evil villain, used to leak out whenever Yu-gyeom was thinking about what he might get.
Before realizing it, in Yu-gyeom’s hand was the picture he had been looking at for a long time. The light shone on the face of a woman in a gorgeous red dress.
“But there’s no need to be that good, right? You can just lock her in a room and attach a few punks to watch over her. There’s no need for me to monitor her myself in your room!”
Lee Chan’s eyes sparkled after strongly voicing the thoughts he wanted to say the most.
Yu-gyeom looked at the face in the picture and fiddled with the sparkling piercings in his ear.
“She must have grown up nicely, what if an unexpected situation happened while being rough unnecessarily? Wouldn’t that be more troublesome? Even if it’s a little annoying, it’s definitely better to go the safe route.”
Chan Lee narrowed his twinkling eyes as if counting the number of possible emergencies. After brief contemplation, he eventually ruffled his hair.
“That’s right. Her personality isn’t normal if you bother her…”
Yu-gyeom let out a low-pitched laugh and slowly put the photo on top of the name that was at the center surrounded by all kinds of notes and photos.
His expressionless closed lips curled into his finger.
