“After listening to your advice, I’ve learned a lot today,” said Han Yinyue to Fang Lin, her tone tainted with appreciation.
“This is only my personal opinion. Perhaps there are other solutions too,” Fang Lin replied with a smile.
Han Yinyue nodded. She did not stay any longer and turned around to leave. Meng Wuyou heaved a long sigh after her departure.
“Why are you sighing, Elder?” asked Fang Lin.
Meng Wuyou looked at Fang Lin and said while shaking his head, “Do you know that the sect master has two daughters? Miss Han is the elder and there’s another younger daughter named Han Xiaoxing. My guess is that Miss Han asked you the question because the person poisoned by the Fire Toxin is her younger sister, Han Xiaoxing.”
Meng Wuyou’s words took Fang Lin by surprise. So, it turned out that Han Yinyue was looking for an alchemy prescription on behalf of her sister.
“Since the sect master’s daughter has been poisoned with Fire Toxin, the sect master should be able to handle the problem easily. Why is Miss Han looking for an alchemy prescription to treat her sister instead?”
Meng Wuyou shook his head and said, “Between the sect master’s two daughters, Miss Yinyue was born with crippled meridians, so she’s incapable of cultivation. Albeit being capable of cultivation, the young Miss Xiaoxing was born blind. She is headstrong and is frequently seen leaving the Purple Glow Sect to explore and cultivate outside without permission. She returns with a body full of injuries and doesn’t dare tell the sect master. She normally begs Miss Yinyue to treat her injuries.”
Fang Lin was immediately rendered speechless. The story of the two daughters of the Purple Glow Sect’s master was rather tragic. It was no wonder he could tell from Han Yinyue’s face earlier that despite her fair complexion, she had the vague pallor of ailment penetrating through her skin. So, it turned out that she had crippled meridians inherently that made her incapable of cultivating.
A person with inherently crippled meridians was born with missing or damaged meridians. They were incapable of producing inner strength. In fact, their physical quality was far worse than an ordinary person’s.
Whatever happened to the elder daughter was already tragic enough, but it was worse for the younger daughter. Even though she was capable of cultivating, she had been born blind. Fang Lin could imagine why Han Xiaoxing was such a headstrong girl. She must have hated the injustice of her destiny.
“Sigh. Even though Miss Han is incapable of cultivation, she is very intelligent. She is gifted with an extraordinarily retentive memory and her understanding of martial arts and alchemy far exceeds that of ordinary people. Just by looking at her alchemy attainments, it is enough to place her in the ranks of true lineage disciples. She just doesn’t have inner strength and her physical weakness is that she’s rendered utterly incapable of refining elixirs,” said Meng Wuyou regretfully.
“So, how about the young Miss Han?” said Fang Lin out of curiosity.
Meng Wuyou said, “Although she’s blind, she’s gifted with unparalleled martial arts attainments. She is capable of determining the direction through the sound of the wind. She has already stepped into the primordial earth realm.”
Fang Lin was rendered speechless. The two ladies of the Han clan were remarkable just as he expected. Even though they were born with disabilities, they were still gifted with extraordinary talents. Perhaps, they would be phoenixes that soared high into the sky without these disabilities.
“Sigh, what sin has our sect master committed such that he’s been given two such tragic daughters,” he could not help lamenting.
Upon hearing that, Meng Wuyou delivered a slap to the back of Fang Lin’s head. He spoke in an unpleasant tone, “How dare you speak nonsense about our sect master? You have no concept of respect for your superior at all. It’s fine that I’m the one who heard what you said, but you’ll be in deep trouble if someone else heard that, boy.”
Fang Lin sniggered because he knew very well that Old Man Meng treated him kindly. Still, he did not continue anymore.
“Oh right, I still haven’t asked what are you doing here. You should be in the alchemy lecture hall now, shouldn’t you?” asked Meng Wuyou with a frown.
Fang Lin pursed his lips and said, “I found that boring, so I left.”
Meng Wuyou was speechless. If these words had come from someone else other than Fang Lin, he would definitely have pulled the person by his collar and tossed him back into the alchemy lecture hall.
“Fine then. Would you like to enter the alchemy prescription hall to take a look?” asked Meng Wuyou.
Fang Lin wanted to say that he had no intention to do so originally, but it was true that he had nothing else better to do now, so he might as well enter. He nodded at once.
Meng Wuyou said, “You’re not actually allowed to enter the alchemy prescription hall with your identity. However, since I’m here, you can join me to enter the hall and take a casual stroll inside. Just don’t go to the second floor. You’re allowed to read the alchemy prescriptions on the first floor if you want, but you can’t bring them with you.”
“Understood,” said Fang Lin.
Soon afterward, they walked in the direction of the alchemy prescription hall. The matrix did not attempt to stop Meng Wuyou, so Fang Lin followed closely behind him and made it into the alchemy prescription hall.
Green bamboo tubes were suspended densely from the walls inside the alchemy prescription hall. A paper was glued to the outside of every bamboo tube to label the alchemy prescription stored inside each of them.
From a broad view, the bamboo tubes on the first floor almost amounted up to a few thousand. There were so many bamboo tubes it was hard to discern them with one’s eyes.
The alchemy prescriptions were suspended in different sections according to their type. As a result, the place did not appear to be messy despite there being so many of them. The bamboo tubes were arranged in a very tidy and orderly manner.
Fang Lin was inherently curious about the alchemy prescriptions. Instantly, he forgot that Meng Wuyou was at his side, so he took two bamboo tubes right away.
Taking a glance at the alchemy prescription inside the bamboo tubes, he then hooked the alchemy prescriptions back to its original spots. After that, he continued to browse the rest. Meng Wuyou smiled and shook his head after realizing that Fang Lin was making himself at home. He did not stop him as he just stood and waited.
Fang Lin browsed at an exceedingly swift speed. Any bamboo tube that was taken down would be returned almost after a quick glance. Meng Wuyou frowned upon seeing him browse through them in such a superficial manner. He said, “Can you remember if you’re looking at them so briefly?”
Fang Lin answered without even turning over to look at him, “There’s no need to remember them.”
Meng Wuyou’s words were choked in his throat. There was nothing he could do except stare at the kid strangely.
All of a sudden, Fang Lin stopped. He had an alchemy prescription in his hand but had not placed it back to its original spot after a glance like he did with the others. Instead, he was frowning.
“What happened?” asked Meng Wuyou upon realizing that he had stopped moving.
Fang Lin hesitated for a moment before he said, “There’s something wrong with this alchemy prescription.”
Upon hearing that, Meng Wuyou was stunned for a moment. Soon afterward, words escaped his mouth as he said, “How is that possible?”
Meng Wuyou’s first reaction was disbelief. He should not be blamed because all the alchemy prescriptions in this alchemy prescription hall were accumulated and collected since the first generation of the alchemy sect founders. Any alchemy prescription that made its way into the alchemy prescription hall was examined and verified by the numerous sect’s alchemists. It could not possibly be wrong.
Nevertheless, Fang Lin had pointed out that something was wrong with this alchemy prescription. Anyone would find his statement amusing and assumed that he was confused.
“There’s something wrong with the alchemy prescription for this Purple Heart Pill. It’s missing the Nightshade Grass, and the Serpent Hemp Vine isn’t necessary,” Fang Lin said, waving the alchemy prescription in his hand. After he said that, he tossed the alchemy prescription to the ground.
“If the ingredients are wrongly matched, then this Purple Heart Pill alchemy prescription is worthless,” he explained mercilessly.
