Chapter 39: The Most Capable One
Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations
Ji Chenfeng had been standing here for quite sometime now. When he found that it was the girl from Planet Trash who was doing the roasting, his first reaction was to wonder if she was the girl mentioned by Dean Ferrero.
Could it be her?
He observed her for a while and recognised the advantages that she had.
She may have been an ordinary participant with passable physical quality and general competence. But she had two friends who were extremely capable.
Ji Chenfeng did not recognise Chen Cheng with his well-built physique, but he had heard about the famous Zhao Qingyan. He had even met her before.
Zhao Qingyan was born in a business family that was quite prestigious in Alliance Stars. Due to her innate abilities, she had been trained as a soldier at warband.
Although they did not belong to the same warband, they were youngsters belonging to the same age group who were often compared by people.
That was how Ji Chenfeng got to know Zhao Qingyan.
Ji Chenfeng wondered how the strong and the weak were cooperating with each other. Didn’t people team up with their equals?
Everyone was a competitor during this entry examination, so they should not have hit off so harmoniously!
Moreover, he had noticed that the strong man and Zhao Qingyan looked like the girl’s slave, as they were seated together.
If that was the case, what was the reason behind it?
Ji Chenfeng pondered over all kinds of possibilities, but still did not figure out the reason for their behavior.
Actually, when Ji Chenfeng heard Dean Ferrero mentioning the girl from Planet Trash, he had been very surprised that she could surpass others by breaking out of the desert zone first.
Now, Ji Chenfeng was taken aback when he noticed the capable fellows on her side.
By now he had started to get curious about her, especially since he saw the girl roasting the bird so proficiently.
How did someone from Planet Trash become so capable in cooking, when they barely had anything to eat?
The way that she was roasting the bird revealed that she was not a newbie when it came to cooking!
Was there any bird on Planet Trash that could have helped her to practise her roasting skills?
He had no answers to these confusing questions.
It made Ji Chenfeng become even more inquisitive about the girl from Planet Trash.
Who exactly was she?
“Do you mind me sitting down here?” Ji Chenfeng approached the girl and stood by the fire.
Ji Chenfeng felt that if he could observe the girl a little more carefully, he might get the answers to his questions.
But he did not expect that the moment he spilled out the words, both Zhao Qingyan and Chen Cheng would roll their eyes at him.
Ji Chenfeng: “…”
When did he ever get treated like this?
He had always been extolled, spoiled and worshipped wherever he went. After all, he was from a rich family and had many exalting qualities.
But today, he had been looked down upon!
Still, Ji Chenfeng took the seat next to the fire, unabashedly. He sat close to the girl from Planet Trash to satiate his curiosity.
Before he could say anything, he noticed how Zhao Qingyan and the big guy threw disdainful looks at him.
Apart from Lan Jiao, there were already two people waiting to share the meat. They did not expect a third one to join in.
Especially Zhao Qingyan!
She already disliked Chen Cheng, let alone Ji Chenfeng who was expecting to get the food for free.
“I do mind, please sit somewhere else.” Lan Jiao looked at Ji Chenfeng and replied calmly.
This good-looking, and muscular young man with black hair was indeed handsome and charming. But his gaze made Lan Jiao feel uncomfortable.
It was a look of prying and testing. It felt intrusive and Lan Jiao didn’t like it.
This man was trying to get close to her for some nefarious purpose, and she did not want to oblige him.
After hearing the girl’s reply, Ji Chenfeng felt that this was the worst that he had ever been treated.
It was the first time in his life that someone countered him without considering his face.
Ji Chenfeng had been quite comfortable when he sat down, but one line from this girl made him feel uneasy.
He should have stood up and left but he hesitated and followed his instinct.
He tolerated her unceremonious words and reminded himself that he should not give up on his purpose just because the girl countered him once.
The way the girl talked made him even more curious about her.
Chen Cheng felt that something was wrong with the atmosphere. He threw a look at the girl from Planet Trash, then at Zhao Qingyan, and finally at Ji Chenfeng.
He knew about Ji Chenfeng. He had grown up with Ji Chenfeng’s name echoing throughout his childhood.
Ji Chenfeng was the legendary kid in every parent’s eyes.
At the age of three, he had already reached B-level in physical quality and spirit power. At the age of 6, his spirit broke through A-level whilst at 8, his physical quality reached A-level. Within five years, he had already become one of the few geniuses with double S-level below the age of 15.
During the past few years, there had been fewer stories about Ji Chenfeng in Alliance Stars, because he managed to get on the battlefield, while his peers were still struggling.
Ji Chenfeng had been to numerous battles during the past few years.
Someone even said that Ji Chenfeng was going to become the second ever Grand General, or even exceed Grand General and became the youngest Primary General!
Chen Cheng had no idea if any of these claims would come true!
But he was sure that among the participants, who had taken part in the examination this year, Ji Chenfeng was the most capable one!
The one and the only!
Lan Jiao was a bit surprised by how Ji Chenfeng reacted.
He still remained seated after she said such harsh words to him?
Was he trying to bear those words well in mind as a grudge or was he really thick-cheeked?
Anyways, she could not force him one way or another.
The forest was not her private space. She had no right to make anyone leave.
Lan Jiao could almost sense the boy’s purpose.
But no matter what he wanted to do, Lan Jiao was not going to give any benefits to him, unwillingly.
She flipped the roasted chicken on the frame. The rooster that had weighed around 4 kilos without feathers, was now only around 3 kilos after being grilled. The water had evaporated, and the oil had leaked out. It had become much lighter.
The chicken was done. Lan Jiao had sprinkled some salt over it during the process and now it was crispy, salty and ready to eat. Lan Jiao cut one piece and tasted it, nodding her head in satisfaction.
Then, she pulled away two chicken legs with the dagger, offering one to Zhao Qingyan and the other to herself.
As for Chen Cheng…
Lan Jiao hesitated for a moment and carved a piece of meat with bone from the back of the chicken. Then she passed the meat to Chen Cheng, as it was hanging on the tip of the dagger.
