After the rain, the sky was a beautiful pure blue color.
It was a rare sunny day, one where the sun seemed determined to prove that it had not been lazing around, but that it was working harder than ever. Helpless to it, the city could only release alerts for an incoming heatwave.
Shen Qinghuan was dressed in a red QiPao. She held an old oil-paper umbrella in her hands as she participated in the shoot for a relatively unknown web drama.
The gravel road had just been repaired, and the scent of asphalt remained heavy in the air. Shen Qinghuan, herself, felt on the verge of burning, and as she breathed in the horrible scent, she felt her mind turning heavy. In the next moment, her world seemed to tilt on its axis as she lost all consciousness.
“All examinees please take note. The examinations will end in fifteen minutes. Those who have yet to write their answers on the answer cards, please make good use of the remaining time.”
As the announcement was repeated once more, Shen Qinghuan abruptly opened her beautiful, almond-shaped eyes.
Outside the windows, the camphor trees were in a vibrant green colour and the cicadas were crying loudly. Shen Qinghuan took in the familiar, yet strange surroundings; however, she had trouble digesting the fact that she had just burned to death from the sun.
“Student.” The female teacher before her had a blue, examiner’s tag hung around her neck, and she watched Shen Qinghuan with sympathy. The young student had a rarely seen, unique hairstyle, afterall. She then tapped on the table with her left index finger and gently reminded: “Even if you’re submitting a blank sheet of paper, don’t forget to indicate your examinee’s number.”
Shen Qinghuan promptly returned to herself. At the sight of the familiar english questions, she subconsciously inhaled sharply.
This was the english paper she had taken ten years ago. She had returned to her fourteen year old self!
By now, she only had seven more minutes to write, so she did not waste anymore time and began frantically filling in the answers based on her vague memories.
Seven minutes later.
When the female examiner returned to Shen Qinghuan’s table to collect her paper, her hand visibly froze for a moment.
This was the female student who had fallen asleep the moment the examination began. How could she have possibly answered this many questions in seven minutes!
The only possibility was if she had relied on her luck and filled in all of the answers incorrectly.
Due to the rules in the examination hall, the examiner could only sigh as she silently took Shen Qinghuan’s paper away.
The examination then ended.
This was her high school entrance examination. Shen Qinghuan recalled that, as she had come to a different school to take her test, she still needed to head to the assembly point to report to the leading teacher from her school.
In her previous life, she had been young and immature and had developed feelings for an older boy in her neighborhood. The other party had been a student in a vocational high school, so for his sake, she had decided to gamble her own future away and gave up the opportunity to enroll in a proper high school.
However, it was only after giving her heart up to him, that she discovered the supposed ‘neighborhood older brother from a vocational school’ was actually a fuck boy!
Now that she had returned to being fourteen years old, Shen Qinghuan no longer wished to hide her own above-average intelligence. There was joy to be found in studying hard and excelling in school!
“Qinghuan.” Li Xiaojie waved at Shen Qinghuan from outside the classroom before saying to her excitedly, “Did you know? The fill-in-the-blank section for the test actually came from our ‘Unit 1’ reading. Thank god I memorised it beforehand!”
In Shen Qinghuan’s previous life, Li Xiaojie had been her only good friend. She also firmly trusted that Li Xiaojie had been sincerely treating her well.
After all, the books she had read told her that friendships were not about quantity but quality. Having two to three friends who were willing to commit their sincere hearts was more than enough.
It was only after much later when the Shen family became bankrupt that Shen Qinghuan understood: Li Xiaojie only saw her for her money. The moment she became broke, the two of them became even less than acquaintances.
“Oh, is that so?” Shen Qinghuan cut Li Xiaojie off. “I’m so sorry. As you know, I’m extremely bad at studying. I don’t understand anything you’ve just said, haha.”
Li Xiaojie originally planned on borrowing the excitement from her good fortune to drag Shen Qinghuan with her. She had wanted to disregard the leading teacher and celebrate with some barbeque.
From Li Xiaojie’s point of view, Shen Qinghuan, the brat, was extremely gullible, so she had wanted to trick Shen Qinghuan into buying a few newly-released cosmetic items for her, as well.
However, as she took in Shen Qinghuan’s strange answer, Li Xiaojie felt something amiss.
