Chapter 50: Lover(11)
Her face was very pale, almost transparent like snow. Her lips, also pale, were pursed petulantly.
Without her makeup, she lost her usual dazzling beauty and seemed to be even thinner.
Tears had welled up in her eyes, and the skin around her eyes had turned red. Yet, she was unyielding, refusing to look at him.
Song Cheng frowned and loosened his fingers. With his sharp gaze, he saw the redness around her pointy jaw. He pinched his fingers in secret, then grabbed her by the wrist and walked toward Song Financial Group’s building. “Aren’t you usually quite capable? Why are you being wimpy today? Even a receptionist managed to get into your hair so easily?”
Su Kui bit her lip and glared at him with her red eyes. “She may just be a receptionist in your eyes, but she was right that I don’t have an appointment. Besides, my identity is also… Am I in any position to argue with that?” Her footsteps were stiff, and she was reluctant to walk with him.
Song Cheng laughed in exasperation and raised his eyebrows at her. “Oh? So no more pretending?”
“I… I wasn’t pretending…”
She turned her head uneasily. She opened her mouth but did not dare to strike back.
At least, she had stopped crying. Nevertheless, her expression still made her look as if she had been mistreated.
Chuckle…
Her arrogant and frustrated look seemed to interest him, so she had succeeded in pleasing Song Cheng at the minimum. Song Cheng raised his rigid chin at Su Kui, gesturing for her to follow him inside.
He tightened his grip and brought Su Kui forward. “I’m going to let it slide this time, but remember to be cleverer with your tricks next time.”
‘At least don’t let me see through it immediately.’
Yet he did not blame her for trying to act smart.
It seemed like he was kind of delighted to stand up for her.
Su Kui lowered her eyes and snorted. ‘If you hadn’t seen through it, I wouldn’t be able to keep the show going.’
Su Kui’s favorite maxim was to avoid the hatred you could draw to yourself when you could get someone else to do the work for you.
When the young receptionist saw her boss returning to the office while holding on to the woman whom she just humiliated, her heart sank.
She trembled and really wanted to slap herself for stepping over the boundary. If only there were a hole in the floor, she would have buried her head into it so that she could save herself from being a laughing stock to other women.
‘Maybe the boss won’t even notice a nobody like me?’ With that little hope inside, the young receptionist quietly moved backward to minimize her presence.
But soon, her little hope was crushed as Song Cheng approached her.
Song Cheng was emotionless as always, even his voice was indifferent. Yet, his words struck like thunderbolts, leaving her dumbfounded on the spot.
He said, “Song Financial Group doesn’t need a disobedient and arrogant employee. You need to know that in here, I’m the boss, not you! Go to the Finance Department to settle your paycheck and leave immediately!”
After he was done, he dragged Su Kui into the chairman’s exclusive elevator without giving her a second look.
A short while later, the young receptionist finally came around, but the boss was already long gone.
Once they were in the elevator, Song Cheng released Su Kui immediately. He put both hands in his pant pockets and looked at her condescendingly. “Tell me, what kind of tricks are you playing here?”
It was obvious that she was still the same person, but in a short period of time, it was as if her soul had been replaced. Song Cheng would never believe it if she said that she was not playing tricks.
Su Kui had expected such a scene. A man who was capable of ascending to be Chairman of Song Financial Group before the age of thirty could never be simple.
Even if part of it was due to his inheritance from his family, putting all of that aside, he was still a man who was capable of managing a whole financial group on his own. Dealing with such a person would never be easy.
