Chapter 21: Sounded More Like a Joke

Unfortunately, even the security guards refused to listen to her orders.
Just then, she spotted that the reporters started to gather and swarm towards her. Panicking, she quickly made a rush to the underground garage.
She quickly started the car, her hands trembling, and sped out of the garage.
The external LED screens were bright and glaring. Even though she tried to avoid looking at them, they were all displaying the same news. Unsurprisingly, she saw her pictures on the screens.
Kidnapping, bankruptcy, police officers searching for her… Those headlines were blaring incessantly.
Fu Wanwan knew that she had to leave the country as soon as possible to avoid being arrested. Not only that, both Zhan Qi and the Fu Family would not let her off easily now that the matter was exposed.
Right now, her utmost priority was leaving the country unobtrusively. She had already made plans to stay abroad until things had died down.
Fortunately, she still had some connections that allowed her to leave S City without alerting anyone.
Just then, Zhang Qi and Fu Qing wanted to go back to the Zhan Family. As they were exiting the hotel, a police car stopped right in front of them. Confused, they came to a halt.
A policeman in his thirties got out of the police car and swiftly showed them his police identification card.
“Mr. Zhan, Mrs. Zhan.” He nodded respectfully before introducing himself. “I’m Officer Han from the Criminal Investigation Unit. Please cooperate with us and follow me to the Public Security Bureau to make a statement.”
Unsure of what to do, Fu Qing glanced nervously at Zhan Qi. Only after seeing him nod did she follow Officer Han into the police car.
At the Bureau, Fu Qing took the opportunity to ask if Jin Hu had confessed about the identity of the instigator.
Upon hearing this, the police officer hesitated for a moment before his face transformed into a scowl. “Just yesterday, Jin Hu had died of a sudden heart attack in the detention center. That bastard! He didn’t even tell us who the instigator was before he died!”
“What? He… he died?”
Fu Qing cried out in disbelief. Meanwhile, Zhan Qi, who was next to her, narrowed his eyes in surprise.
Officer Han had a sheepish look on his face. He coughed lightly and continued, “The police officer who interrogated him didn’t even know what caused his heart attack. All he did was slap the table, and Jin Hu got scared to death!”
Without him realizing, Zhan Qi let out an almost inaudible snort. Even Fu Qing frowned slightly. It didn’t sound very convincing to her.
How could a ruthless and blood-thirsty gang leader be scared to death just because a police officer slammed the table?
This was starting to sound more and more like a joke. She couldn’t wrap her head around it.
“What about the other kidnappers?”
“The others are all small fries. All they did was obey and carry out Jin Hu’s orders. They didn’t know who instructed them. We’re currently chasing after the few kidnappers who escaped,” Officer Han answered truthfully.
“Okay.” Fu Qing didn’t speak further.
After taking their statement, the police showed Zhan Qi and Fu Qing out.
“Mr. Zhan, Mrs. Zhan, I hope you can keep an eye out. Let me know as soon as you have any clues.”
“Okay, thank you, Officer Han.”
As the officer went back into the police station, Zhan Qi called the chauffeur to come pick them up.
“What’s wrong?”Fu Qing asked, catching a glimpse of Zhan Qi’s gloomy expression.
Zhan Qi quickly forced a smile on his face. “Nothing.”
Deep down, he was thinking about Jin Hu’s suspicious death. It simply didn’t make sense. He decided to investigate this himself — it was better not to let Fu Qing worry about it.
Within minutes, the chauffeur pulled up on the side of the road.
The two entered the car. “Go back to the villa.” Zhan Qi ordered indifferently.
“Wait, the villa? Aren’t you going back to the Zhan Family?” Fu Qing was puzzled at his request.
Zhan Qi explained briefly, “You’ve gone through too much in the past two days. You need to rest. It’s not necessary for you to go all the way there just to see them.”
Fu Qing nodded silently in appreciation. Just then, they happened to pass by a supermarket. “Stop the car.” Fu Qing ordered.
Zhan Qi said nothing, but the puzzled look in his eyes revealed his thoughts. Seeing this, Fu Qing smiled. “I’m going to buy some food. You’ve gotten injured because of me. So, I want to cook you a meal as a form of thanks. “
His eyes softened and a gentle smile appeared on his face upon hearing this. “It’s my honour to be able to taste my wife’s cooking.”
Back at the villa, Fu Qing instructed the maid, Aunt Zhang, to help her carry all the vegetables into the kitchen. She was then about to enter the kitchen, but was stopped by Zhan Qi.
“Aren’t you going to change my dressing?”Zhan Qi said softly as he grabbed her wrist.
Fu Qing patted her head lightly. “Oh, right. I almost forgot. The dressing has to be changed every three hours, right?”
She followed Zhan Qi into the bedroom, with the gauze in her hands.
“I have to cook later, so no fooling around this time.” She warned as she helped him take off his clothes..
