The Seventh Base - Chapter 67
Chapter 67: Chapter 62: Kill
The next day, the City State Main City was in an uproar.
It was said that something big had happened the night before.
The City State Guard and the Law Enforcement Team had joined forces in an operation to capture the thugs who killed Councilman Tyrone, hiding within a tavern.
The tavern was razed to the ground, but the capture was unsuccessful.
All members of the City State Guard involved in the capture were ‘sacrificed’, none survived, it was extremely tragic.
There was also another matter, someone saw a ‘monster’ in the main city area.
The ‘monster’ had wings, the face of an angel.
This ‘monster’ later went to the tavern where the arrests were being made, killing many members of the City State Guard.
The former had a very high degree of credibility, as the next day, they could still see the ruins of the tavern.
Few believed the latter.
Monsters were purely nonsense, and a monster with an angelic face, how could it possibly exist.
It sounded rather like the heroine of a story.
However, those who had witnessed it firsthand last night hadn’t yet recovered.
The world and what they had seen seemed a bit different.
Afterward, the City State Main City posted a simple sketch portrait of the wanted criminals.
There were four people in total, three men and one woman.
The man and woman in the middle were particularly noticeable, and despite the simplicity of the sketches, one could still discern the man’s handsomeness and the woman’s sensual beauty.
This made many people feel a bit strange. These were thugs?
Especially those who had been to the Hunter Tavern, they found it unbelievable.
The wanted posters were plastered all over the main city area, intending to leave Xu Mo and his group no place to hide.
At this moment, Xu Mo himself was standing in front of one such portrait, wearing a hat and not even bothering to cover his face.
“It doesn’t even look like me,” Xu Mo thought to himself as he looked at the portrait.
It was too rudimentary.
The City State Council didn’t have a photo of him, only a crude ‘impressionist’ sketch.
That was good, because relying on this portrait, you wouldn’t recognize him unless you looked carefully.
“Did you hear about the monster last night?” someone nearby said.
“I heard, but it must be fake, right?”
“My friend saw it with his own eyes, right at the little tavern’s location. The City State Guard were on a mission to encircle the monster, and the monster killed them,” the person continued, “It was even a beautiful female monster, with wings.”
“How can it be a beautiful woman if it’s a monster?” someone asked in confusion.
“A monster?” Xu Mo revealed a hint of surprise.
He remembered the Genetic Warrior he had killed last time at the Arena.
That Genetic Warrior had mutated, showing some beast-like traits.
Bloodthirsty and murderous, even his eyes and facial expression were somewhat unsettling.
The monsters these people talked about must also be Genetic Warriors.
What in the world was the Genetic Evolution Liquid?
Changing genes?
Were the beastly traits of the Genetic Warriors the result of fusing with the genes of other species?
He had seen monstrous species in the world above; those species must be powerful.
These details were probably only known higher up.
However, the fact that they used people for experiments showed their level of cruelty.
“At which little tavern did you see it?” Xu Mo asked.
“The tavern where they were capturing the wanted criminals,” the person next to him replied and turned to look at Xu Mo.
When he saw the face under Xu Mo’s hat, he obviously froze for a moment, then looked at the portrait again.
He checked several times, as if doubting his own eyes.
It was somewhat similar.
The more he looked, the more it resembled.
“You…” the man pointed at Xu Mo, wanting to say something but not daring to.
Seeing the man’s expression, Xu Mo smiled and said, “What about me?”
The man stuttered a bit, squeezing out, “Just that you look a bit like it, but you’re much handsomer than the portrait.”
Then he quickly slipped away as if afraid that Xu Mo might ‘silence him’.
This was the ruthless person who had wiped out Councilman Tyrone and the Law Enforcement Team.
And now he had smiled at him.
How could he not be afraid?
The people around also noticed Xu Mo, and for a moment they stepped back, with the more cowardly ones running off right away.
The passing patrol upon seeing the commotion ran in this direction, and only Xu Mo was left standing in front of the portrait.
He calmly stood there, admiring the picture.
Thinking back to what the man had said earlier, he seemed somewhat in agreement.
“Put your hands up and turn around,” two members of the Law Enforcement Team said as they pulled out their guns and aimed at Xu Mo’s back.
Xu Mo turned around and looked at the two men, “Are you looking for me?”
“Bang!” The two men fired their guns—they were scared too.
The bullets whistled, but they seemed to meet an incredibly powerful resistance. Xu Mo reached out and caught the bullets in his hand.
The two men trembled, was this still a human being?
They turned to run, only to see Xu Mo fling the caught bullet out, piercing through their heads and bringing them down.
What use was finding him?
Xu Mo adjusted his hat and walked in a certain direction.
People in the distance watched everything unfold, their hearts pounding. Their understanding was being overturned.
Was this a superpower?
How did he manage to catch a bullet?
Moreover, the City State Guard and Law Enforcement Team were searching everywhere, but there Xu Mo was, walking the streets so boldly.
It was a total mockery of the City State Guard and Law Enforcement Team, completely disregarding them.
A wanted notice?
Standing right in front of you, what can you do?
Others from the patrol who heard the gunshots hurried over; upon realizing what had happened, they looked in the direction where Xu Mo had left, yet no one dared to chase after him.
They thought it better to notify the higher-ups first.
They certainly didn’t want to risk their lives!
……
Xu Mo arrived at the location of the tavern, which had been flattened to the ground, leaving only ruins.
Bloodstains were still visible on the ground; some of it was from his own killing spree, some of it was not, in various places.
“`
It seems the rumors must be true, besides him, a battle had taken place here last night.
But, what were the monsters?
He walked over the ruins of the tavern, which appeared to have been disturbed, with holes dug out.
This made him feel somewhat strange.
After they had left, did members of the City State Guard or the Law Enforcement Team come to dig holes?
To look for something?
Moreover, the signs of disturbance did not seem to be caused by machinery, but rather by hand.
People digging holes, no matter how one looked at it, it seemed very odd.
Dig with their hands?
“Someone’s coming,” Xu Mo sensed people approaching this area, and he moved behind a wall of the neighboring, collapsed tavern that was still standing.
Soon, a group of people arrived.
Among them were members of the City State Guard, and there was another group dressed differently.
They wore pure-colored armor and carried white guns; the commander leading them wore a white coat and glasses.
He looked down at the ground and then walked towards the disturbed ruins and squatted down to inspect it.
“Claw marks,” the middle-aged man said. Had there been a mutation?
Someone came towards them and said, “Commander, someone reported sighting the monster.”
“Lead the way,” the commander with the glasses ordered, and immediately the group followed the informant in a particular direction.
The City State Guard followed behind.
Xu Mo emerged to watch their retreating backs.
He couldn’t shake the feeling that the City State Guard’s authority was inferior to these people’s.
Were these people from the secret organization of the Underworld?
They were searching for the monster.
This meant that the monster was given higher priority than him, a mere thug.
These people were most likely from a secret organization specializing in genetic experiments.
Could they be the masterminds behind the Valen Factory?
Releasing his sensory abilities, Xu Mo trailed them from a distance.
Others found tracking him difficult, but for him to follow someone was as easy as turning his hand over, unless they also possessed strong sensory abilities like his.
In the corner of an old residential building two kilometers away from the bar street.
Elsa curled up on the ground.
She was so hungry.
So cold, the coldness stemmed from deep within her heart.
She was wrapped in a torn quilt, covering the wings that had grown out.
A passerby took pity on her and left some food for her.
Elsa looked at the food, struggling internally.
But she was too hungry.
Driven by instinct, she shook as she grabbed the food from the ground and began to gnaw on it.
“How pitiful,” a beautiful girl passing by remarked, about eighteen years old.
Elsa looked up at her, dressed in a pretty dress, walking with her mother and gazing at her with pity.
Elsa bowed her head, and tears fell continuously.
Footsteps approached; Elsa lifted her head to see a group of people carrying weapons, staring at her.
Elsa immediately got to her feet and fled. Her speed was very fast, but there were more people blocking her escape route.
Her eyes revealed a ferocious look as she stared at them.
Two lines of people cornered her; those in white battle armor raised their guns at her.
“Buzz.” Elsa turned into a phantom and charged forward as they opened fire.
What they shot weren’t bullets, but sharp, ultra-fine crystals with something like electricity flowing within them.
And they possessed extreme penetrating power.
They pierced directly into Elsa’s skin, causing her body to go numb, a wave of weakness overtaking her.
Her steps faltered, as if she was about to collapse.
The commander with glasses waved his hand, saying to the City State Guard members behind him, “Fire.”
The City State Guard members unceremoniously opened fire, and Elsa covered her head.
The intense gunfire caused her flesh to burst open, but it quickly healed.
Watching this brutal scene, the commander with glasses seemed to appreciate it, showing a satisfied expression.
Such strong healing capabilities, the daughter of the head of Valen Factory?
Was it some unfinished Genetic Evolution Liquid experiment that was left for her?
Perhaps a mutation had occurred.
A fine specimen indeed, to be taken back to the lab for study.
“Stop,” he commanded.
Only then did the City State Guard cease fire.
They were unaware that a figure stood behind them, eyes fixed on what lay ahead.
“Monster?”
“Elsa!”
Xu Mo could never have imagined that the monster everyone was talking about was Elsa.
Who had driven her to this state?
Was it because of the Genetic Evolution Liquid?
Secretary Jin was in charge of the genetic experiments at Valen Factory.
Now, Elsa had turned into a ‘monster’ because of the experiment.
If Secretary Jin knew the outcome, perhaps he would rest with his eyes closed, like it was a cycle of fate.
Remembering the disturbed ruins, Xu Mo suddenly felt an ache.
Elsa had dug them; she was looking for him.
“Ah…” A scream sounded, and Elsa, leaning against a wall, saw Xu Mo.
She lowered her head, hands covering her face, trembling slightly, even more than when facing death.
Had he seen her, seen what she had become?
She was a monster.
Elsa felt a sharp pain in her heart.
The others, noticing Elsa’s reaction, turned around and then saw a figure standing there.
He had taken off his coat, clad in pitch-black battle armor, his war saber raised.
“Kill!”
