The Sparkle of A Lifetime - Chapter 41
Chapter 41: Hanjiang, Are You Very Busy?
“I decided to marry him because I love him. I want to spend the rest of my life with him.
Madame Yan was reassured. She chuckled. Her health was deteriorating fast, and her only regret had been that she wouldn’t live long enough to see her precious granddaughter walk down the aisle. Now that she had received such joyous news, she felt renewed.
No matter how tough it might be, she would hang on. She wanted to be the one to give her granddaughter away.
That way, she’d be able to face Yiren’s mother when they met in the afterlife.
…
After leaving the Yan Family house, Ling Yunhuan noticed that her car had been scratched beyond recognition. Rage boiled within her once more. “They’re seriously bloody out of control! I should’ve scratched her face!”
Yan Yiren comforted her. “Huanhuan, let’s talk once we’re out of here. I’ll pay for the repairs.”
Ling Yunhuan got into the car. “Why should you have to do that? I’m able to cover it. Forget it! Let’s not mention her anymore. It makes my blood boil.”
Yan Yiren fastened her seatbelt. “Didn’t you tell me that your salary is low? With how things are, the car repair fees are going to cost you a bomb.”
“I work part-time somewhere and have some savings, so don’t worry too much, Yiren. I’ll take you home first.”
“Alright. If you don’t have enough money, remember to tell me…”
“I’ve got it, you nag!”
Ling Yunhuan still had to pick up her boyfriend. Yan Yiren returned to her apartment. She had not eaten dinner yet. Ignoring the dull pain in her abdomen, she went to the kitchen to whip up a bowl of noodles.
After just a few mouthfuls, she felt her stomach flip. She only had a second’s warning before she vomited up the entire contents of her stomach.
She began to realize how serious things were. It seemed like the kicks that Yan Shudan and her mother had delivered had caused her some serious damage. Her first instinct was to pick up the phone and call Ji Hanjiang.
It was noisy on his end. She could hear various sounds in the background: people hollering for a drinking game, the airy laughter of women, and slow-paced music.
“Hanjiang?”
She heard Ji Hanjiang say “excuse me” before the background noise reduced. “Yiren, what’s wrong?”
“Hanjiang, are you very busy? Could you…”
“As you can hear, I am very busy.”
Ji Hanjiang’s reply meant that Yan Yiren found it hard to continue speaking. She had wanted to ask a question, but it was even harder to do so now.
“It’s ok, I understand. You’d better get back to work then. Remember not to drink and smoke too much.”
“Mn.” Perhaps Ji Hanjiang felt that he was being too cold because he added, “Have an early night.”
Yan Yiren hung up before she collapsed onto the floor in pain. Clasping her phone tightly, she dialed the emergency number.
After half an hour, the ambulance arrived, sirens blaring as they transported an unconscious Yan Yiren to the hospital.
…
When Yan Yiren awoke the next morning, she found herself alone in the hospital.
The nurse gave her a gentle reminder to contact her family so that someone could settle the hospital fees. Yan Yiren nodded. “I understand.”
She thought back to the call that she had made to Ji Hanjiang yesterday. She now felt that she had been too thoughtless.
He was on a business trip. How could she expect him to drop everything and come back to take her to the hospital?
Asking the nurse for a phone, Yan Yiren called Ling Yunhuan to settle the fees, for she had no money on her.
When Ling Yunhuan arrived, she was shocked. “Yiren, why do you look so frail? What on earth happened? Why are you suddenly in the hospital?”
“The kicks Yan Shudan and her mother gave me were hard. They’ve caused me a bit of a problem. I’ll be fine after a few days of rest.”
It had taken all night for Ling Yunhuan to suppress her anger, and now she felt her temper rising again.
“Those scoundrels! I can’t wait to see them get their comeuppance!”
