The Sparkle of A Lifetime - Chapter 44
Chapter 44: Worst Day of her Life
It also made him think about how she had wanted to get married all of a sudden. She had even taken the initiative to propose. It all seemed so strange…
She was a woman with a traditional mindset. She had wanted to save her first time for her wedding night. Now, it seemed she had lost her sense of chastity, had chosen to lie to him, and had even taken proposed.
What could all this point to?
If she was in trouble, as long as she was willing to tell him the truth, he would be understanding. Even if she was forced into admitting things to him.
However, she had not been honest with him!
She had only briefly told him what had happened during the two days and two nights that she had been abducted. She had even lied to him!
He loved the pure Yiren, not the Yan Yiren who was full of lies.
However, everything seemed to be spiraling out of control.
…
Over the next few days, Yan Yiren asked Ji Hanjiang to visit Madame Yan with her, but he came up with different excuses each time.
It was hard for Yan Yiren to hide her disappointment. “Is work really that busy? Can’t you take some time off?”
“Yiren, I hope you’ll be able to understand my job.” She was speaking to Ji Hanjiang on the phone, and he sounded as gentle as he had always been. “I want to visit your grandmother too, but I’m just not able to take time off at the moment. The hard work I’m putting in now is all for the sake of our future. Be a little magnanimous, Yiren.”
If Yan Yiren had been angry, his soothing words of comfort would have dispelled every ounce of anger within her.
She understood. It was not easy managing a company as big as the Ji Group. He was the President, so it made sense that he was too busy for anything else.
Yan Yiren surrendered, unable to help but pity him. “I understand, Hanjiang. I know that you’re busy, but you still have to take care of yourself, ok?”
Ji Hanjiang chuckled, his laughter sounding down the phone. It was as if he was right beside her. “We aren’t even married, yet you’ve already become a naggy housewife.”
Naggy housewife?
Yan Yiren felt herself turn red, as she exclaimed, embarrassed, “I’m hanging up, I’m going to visit Grandma.”
“Say hello to her for me.”
“I will.”
After she hung up, Yan Yiren took a deep breath, before hailing a taxi to the Yan Family house.
Every single trip to the Yan Family house was like a disaster. This time would be no exception, but it was something Yan Yiren couldn’t avoid.
Yan Shudan’s face was still swollen. When she saw Yan Yiren, it was as if she was looking at her arch enemy.
Ruan Yufeng threw a cup of scalding hot tea at her feet as she huffed, “You actually have the nerve to show up?!”
“If you want to beat me, do it quickly. Don’t delay my visit to Grandma.” Yan Yiren stared blankly at the stairs as if she’d be able to get closer to her grandmother just by staring at them.
All she had to do was get up this flight of stairs, and she’d be with her grandmother.
That meant she’d have to put up with the hurdles that stood in the way of the stairs.
“If you say so!”
Unable to retain her composure, Yan Shudan rushed forward to hit her but was held back by Ruan Yufeng.
Ruan Yufeng shook her head, giving her a look that said no. “Go upstairs first. We’ll settle our debts later.”
…
That night almost became the worst experience of Yan Yiren’s life.
She couldn’t even remember what Yan Shudan and her mother did to her. All she could remember was a servant dragging her out of the Yan Family house.
Bang!
The door to the Yan Family house shut mercilessly behind her.
Yan Yiren lay sprawled on the ground. Even taking a breath hurt. She carefully took her phone out and called Ji Hanjiang.
It was a long journey home. She would ask him for help just this once.
The call was connected. The beep that sounded as she waited for him to pick up felt like the most prolonged torture in the world.
Each beep pounded on her heart.
In the end, he didn’t pick up. Ji Hanjiang didn’t pick up.
Losing her last ounce of strength, Yan Yiren passed out, darkness taking over.
