The Sparkle of A Lifetime - Chapter 46
Chapter 46: I Wish to Speak to Him in Private
At the sound of heels clicking across the floor, Yan Yiren lifted her head, a hint of a smile gracing her lips. “Huanhuan, you’re here?”
As Ling Yunhuan glanced at Yan Yiren, one word popped into her mind – pitiful.
Leaning onto the side of the bed, she looked just like Lin Daiyu. She was so delicate that you couldn’t help but cherish yet pity her.
Her appearance roused such emotions in Ling Yunhuan, a woman. Such feelings would no doubt amplify if it was a man in front of Yan Yiren.
Ling Yunhuan ruffled her hair, holding her hand up to her forehead in a defeated manner. “Yiren, what on earth has happened to you now? How did you get yourself admitted to hospital again?”
Yan Yiren lowered her head, looking at her linked fingers as she answered detachedly. “I went to visit Grandma last night.”
“You can’t always just put up with the mother and daughter bullying you! Why don’t you let Hanjiang bring your grandmother to live with you?”
“My father isn’t going to agree to that. Besides, Grandma doesn’t wish to leave the Yan Family.”
Ling Yunhuan cursed under her breath. “I’ll go settle the fees first, then I’ll get you some breakfast.”
Ling Yunhuan settled the hospital fees and then took out her phone to dial Ji Hanjiang.
JI Hanjiang had finished in the shower and answered the call in a fit of temper. “What is it?”
“Yiren’s in hospital. Come quickly,” Ling Yunhuan informed him, before telling him the address and hanging up.
She took her own sweet time to get breakfast and then went to stand at the hospital entrance to wait for him.
Ji Hanjiang stood rooted to the spot. Yiren had been hospitalized?
Without a second thought, he grabbed his car keys and left for the hospital. The traffic wasn’t heavy in the morning, so it was easy for him to quickly make his way there on the empty roads.
In just fifteen minutes, he arrived at the hospital.
At the sight of Ling Yunhuan, his expression darkened. “What on earth happened?!”
“She went back to visit her grandmother last night. It’s that mother-daughter duo again. You know that their bullying of Yiren has been going on for a long time,” Ling Yunhuan explained. With breakfast in her hand, she led the way. “Follow me.”
After waiting for what seemed like hours, Yan Yiren was greeted with the sight of Ling Yunhuan and Ji Hanjiang entering the ward.
A glint flashed in her eyes before she lowered her gaze. He hadn’t called her back and hadn’t even sent her a message.
She didn’t understand his disregard for her.
“Yiren…” Ji Hanjiang strode over to the bedside. He stopped short when he saw how pale and fragile she looked.
Ling Yunhuan walked over to the other side of the bed, placing her breakfast on the bedside table. “Yiren, I asked Hanjiang to come over. You don’t mind, do you?”
The corners of Yan Yiren’s lips twitched, but she remained silent.
She remained silent for a long time. Sometimes, being given the silent treatment was even more hurtful than words.
Her silence was certainly having an effect on Ji Hanjiang.
“Yiren, say something. Please don’t remain silent.” He sat down, clasping her hand in his as he looked at her with his eyes blazing.
Her hand felt extremely chilly, as did her pale face. Ji Hanjiang held her hand, bringing it up to his lips for a kiss. “I didn’t know that you had been brought to hospital. I only found out when Huan… Huan informed me. I’m sorry, though I know that my apology is useless now.”
Ling Yunhuan had already prepared a bowl of warm porridge for her. Placing it on the table, she called out, “Yiren, have some porridge first.”
Yan Yiren lifted her head, giving her a grateful smile before muttering, “Huanhuan, I wish to speak to Ji Hanjiang in private.”
“Alright.” A cold look flashed in Ling Yunhuan’s eyes. It disappeared just as fast as it had appeared before she turned around and left the ward.
Yan Yiren withdrew her hand from Ji Hanjiang’s grasp, her lips pressed into a thin line as she gazed at him silently. “Hanjiang, didn’t you see that I tried to call you last night?”
“I…”
