The Sparkle of A Lifetime - Chapter 48
Chapter 48: It’s Not Wrong to Love Someone
Ji Hanjiang made his way to the bedside hesitantly and wrapped his arms around Yan Yiren. “All I want is to help you solve this problem. The best thing to do is find a solution that settles matters once and for all.”
Yan Yiren had nothing else to say. He wasn’t on the same wavelength as she was, and no matter what she said, he would never understand.
It was just like a debate: neither person would be able to persuade the other and a consensus could never be reached.
It was just like how Huanhuan was unable to understand why Yan Yiren couldn’t simply bring her grandmother out of the Yan Family house to live with her.
“Hanjiang, I’m tired.” Yan Yiren weakly pulled herself out of his embrace and laid down.
Ji Hanjiang’s hand tightened gradually, and he only let go after a long while. “Alright, get some rest now. I’ll ask for two nurses to take care of you. I’ll visit you again after I finish work.”
Yan Yiren didn’t bother to deal with his arrangements. She responded with a soft noise before closing her eyes once more.
Ji Hanjiang lowered his head to give her a light kiss on her pale lips before leaving.
Ling Yunhuan watched from the corridor as Ji Hanjiang left the ward. A little surprised, she approached him as he drew closer. “Why are you leaving so soon? I thought you’d stay to accompany her. After all, she was hurt pretty badly.”
Ji Hanjiang briefly glanced at her before entering the elevator. Ling Yunhuan turned around and walked in as well.
Looking at the descending numbers on the display screen, Ji Hanjiang’s expression darkened. “She doesn’t want to see me.”
Ling Yunhuan folded her arms and gave a soft chuckle. “That’s normal. Anyone would be angry given the situation.”
Ji Hanjiang’s sharp glare warned her to shut her mouth.
“Actually, I can understand how Yiren felt last night. I thought about it. If the same thing had happened to me, I’d also want for my partner to come straight to my side.” As Ling Yunhuan finished, her voice tapered off.
At her words, Ji Hanjiang scoffed, feeling that she was being pretentious. “You seem to care a lot for this bestie of yours. Why don’t I see the affection that you have for her when you’re crawling into my bed?”
Ling Yunhuan lifted her gaze, shock and surprise clear in her eyes. With a pained expression, she retreated to the back of the lift. “It’s not wrong to love someone. If I had to say what went wrong, it’ll be that Yiren and I fell in love with the same man. Everyone has biological needs. It isn’t wrong for me to give something I consider most precious to the man I love. I don’t intend to compete with Yiren, neither do I desire any status. When you get married, I’ll leave Ning City and you’ll never see me again.”
When the elevator door opened, Ji Hanjiang gave her an unreadable look, before stepping out and striding off.
Ling Yunhuan watched as he drove off, before turning around and making her back way upstairs.
In the hospital ward, Yan Yiren was still awake. With her eyes wide open, she stared dazedly at the ceiling, a troubled expression on her face.
Ling Yunhuan walked to her bedside, looked at the bowl of untouched porridge, and sighed. “Yiren, have a little porridge before you sleep. It’s not good for you to starve yourself.”
“I don’t have an appetite.”
Nonetheless, Ling Yunhuan pulled her up, shoving a pillow behind her back. “Even if you don’t have an appetite, you still have to eat a little. I queued for this, so you have to at least eat something. Can you look me in the eye if you don’t even have a bite?”
Yan Yiren looked at her before breaking into a chuckle. Ling Yunhuan feigned surprise. “Don’t tell me you need me to feed you?”
“Of course not.” Yan Yiren picked up the bowl of porridge, lowering her head to take a bite. “I just feel that you’re too good to me.”
Yet again, Ling Yunhuan had come straight over with just a phone call.
