The Sparkle of A Lifetime - Chapter 50
Chapter 50: Bring up the Plans for our Marriage
Yan Yiren remained indifferent and nodded in response.
Ling Yunhuan’s gaze shifted between the two of them. Sensing the tense atmosphere, she immediately said, “Hanjiang, Yiren’s doing better after a day of rest. The doctor said that she’d be fine in a few more days. She must rest and recuperate.”
“Mn.” Ji Hanjiang’s voice was laced with doubt. “You been with Yiren all day?”
“Yep! I even chased the nurses you’ve hired away. How can an outsider’s care be more attentive than mine?” Ling Yunhuan gave Yan Yiren a look. “Yiren, don’t you agree?”
Yan Yiren could afford to give Ji Hanjiang the cold shoulder since he hadn’t both there either time she had needed him. She was angry.
But Ling Yunhuan couldn’t afford to give the same treatment. “Of course. Thanks for your care today.”
“Who are we? Don’t go all polite on me. If you really want to thank me, why don’t you treat me to dinner someday?”
“No problem. Consider that a little token of my appreciation.”
Time passed and the two women continued to chat heartily. Ji Hanjiang cleared his throat as he took out his phone. “What would both of you like to eat? I’ll order in. Yiren, what about you? What would you like?”
Ling Yunhuan raised her hand to interrupt him. “Yiren can’t have anything spicy or sour. She can only eat something light. Let’s both be accommodating. We can’t possibly indulge in spicy and delicious food in front of a patient now, can we?”
Yan Yiren had no opinion. Ji Hanjiang could only nod his head to show he agreed with Ling Yunhuan.
After ordering the food, Ji Hanjiang sat down beside Yan Yiren’s bed. He picked up an apple and began to peel it with a knife.
Ling Yunhuan sighed enviously at the sight. “Yiren, look at how good Hanjiang is to you. It’s alright for a girl to be angry, but there has to be a limit to everything. Don’t push Hanjiang away. If you don’t want him, there are lines of women out there who want a piece of him. You’ve got to cherish him, got it?”
“Why do you keep putting in a good word for him?”
Yan Yiren felt a little upset. As her best friend, shouldn’t Ling Yunhuan be on her side? They should be criticizing Ji Hanjiang together.
Why did she feel that her best friend had been bribed by Ji Hanjiang to act as a lobbyist?
“I’m not putting in a good word! I’m just reminding you!”
Ji Hanjiang finished peeling the apple and passed it over to Yan Yiren.”Yiren, here you go.”
Yan Yiren pursed her lips, but she still took the apple. “Thank you,” she mumbled.
“Yiren, are you being so polite because you’re still angry with me? I guarantee this won’t happen ever again, ok?” Ji Hanjiang gazed affectionately at her. Even if she didn’t look at him, he remained gentle as ever.
Yan Yiren took a bite of the apple and finally spared him a glance. “What if I’m still angry?”
Ji Hanjiang raised his hand, softly caressing her face as he chuckled light-heartedly, “It’s alright. You have the right to be angry. I’ll wait till your anger subsides.”
Yan Yiren lowered her head, breaking out into a small smile. It was so small that it almost went unnoticed.
Ji Hanjiang’s sharp eyes caught this fleeting smile of hers. He held onto her hand. “I have already made some arrangements. Once you’re well, you can have a meal with my parents, and we can bring up the plans for our marriage at the same time.”
Yan Yiren forgot to chew the piece of apple she had in her mouth. She was utterly surprised by this sudden piece of news.
Ji Hanjiang held onto her hand, tightening his grasp. “What’s wrong? Are you upset?”
After breaking out of her stupor, Yan Yiren shook her head, swallowing the piece of apple in her mouth without chewing it much. She felt a little nervous and like she was at a loss. “I just…”
“Don’t worry! My parents won’t eat you up,” Ji Hanjiang reassured her softly, giving the back of her hand a soft kiss.
