Chapter 785: Chapter 779: The Key Object
The next day dawned bright and sunny.
Rosewood City Psychiatric Hospital.
An old man, untainted by a speck of dust and with hair as white as snow, was sitting by a stream, fishing with ease and grace, giving off an air reminiscent of an immortal.
David Jones glanced at the warning sign near the river, then back at the hospital behind him with its strict security and windows barred by iron, maintaining a calm expression.
He had been waiting here for about fifteen minutes.
Just then, Jettel slowly lowered his fishing rod, which had no line, and murmured, “Time for medication!”
As he spoke, a slight glimmer flashed from the Star Ring between his fingers, and a Patterned Tiger Fish about fifty centimeters long, with almost its entire body made up of its fish head and eyes red as blood, appeared, full of sharp teeth.
“Boom!”
The Patterned Tiger Fish slapped its tail on the ground, transforming into a dark green streak of light as it rapidly approached Dr. Jettel.
Upon seeing this, David Jones’s eyes narrowed slightly, and he silently watched as the Patterned Tiger Fish opened its triangular pointed teeth and fiercely bit into Dr. Jettel’s right forearm.
“Drip-drop!”
With a few drops of fresh blood dripping from the Patterned Tiger Fish’s sharp fangs, Dr. Jettel’s eyes also shifted from confusion to sharpness.
He adjusted his glasses with his left hand, paying no mind to the injury on his right arm, and looked at David Jones with an approving gaze.
Thankfully, this renowned Dragon Subduing Deity was not an impulsive youth.
This meant that he only needed to clarify the difficulty of evolving time-based Pets, which would save time and spare him the effort of trying to dissuade a supreme talent from pursuing a dead-end path.
Indeed, in Dr. Jettel’s eyes, David Jones was an overconfident young man!
He acknowledged that David Jones’s strength was legendary, and his talent was unparalleled, but that was limited to beast taming and elixir concocting.
The evolution of Beasts might seem simple, but it was as challenging as reaching the heavens, full of the Creator’s miracles.
Not to mention, the area of research that David Jones wanted to breakthrough, the evolution of time-based creatures, had yet to be achieved by anyone.
Thinking of this, Dr. Jettel’s gaze swept over David Jones’s wrist.
He had also heard of the miracle that had occurred with the Frost Blood Dragon.
But a miracle is called a miracle because it’s non-replicable; it doesn’t happen over and over!
“Do you need treatment first?” David Jones asked, pointing at Jettel’s wound.
“No need, little Tiger’s teeth are wrapped with Level IV healing elixir, such a minor injury is not a concern,” said Jettel, casting his eyes back to David Jones.
“I heard from Dr. Tracy Harvey that you want to research the evolutionary roadmap for time-based Pets?”
“Not really, the evolutionary roadmap requires sufficient knowledge and data for deduction, and I definitely don’t have such capabilities,” David Jones responded promptly.
Dr. Jettel’s brow furrowed slightly.
Though he had intended to persuade David Jones to give up, seeing how directly David Jones denied it made him feel unexpectedly hollow and dissatisfied.
Unbeknownst to him, David Jones suddenly added, “I only hope to evolve a time-based Pet.”
At that statement, Dr. Jettel’s brows relaxed, and he said softly, “Having evolved a Frost Flood Dragon and a Destiny Dragondoll, you should have a solid foundation in the basic knowledge of pet evolution.”
David Jones nodded slightly.
For a Pet to evolve successfully, it must first master its inherent power, meaning its Species Skill must be cultivated beyond proficiency.
Without control over their power, combining it with the substantial Arcane Force during evolution could easily cause the Pet to backlash, sustain serious injuries, regress, or even explode.
Secondly, a pet’s potential can determine the maximum level and success rate of its next evolution, which is why the evolution routes available on the market generally only feature an increase of one major species level.
Only pets with potential above the Purple tier can attempt to leap two species levels in their evolution.
David Jones, with his Dragon-Wielding talent, was able to cultivate his pets’ potential to SS tier of the Golden level over time, which drastically increased the success rate of his contracted pets’ evolution.
“Then I won’t beat around the bush. Only the most top-grade resources, when encountered by the right pet, can yield perfect effects; otherwise, they could become a burden to the pet.”
“Therefore, in the process of pet evolution, the importance of resources comes in third,” Jettel extended three fingers, his tone slightly serious.
“The reason you’re considering evolving a Time pet is no different from mine, having found a method to use the Time Stone, am I right?”
David Jones expressed his surprise, “You have also discovered a way to utilize the Time Stone?”
“Yes, but it’s useless! Nowadays, in the Flowery Kingdom, no, it might be said for the entire Blue Star, there is a lack of the environment needed to nurture Time pets.”
Jettel’s expression turned solemn, his eyes tinged with a hint of unwillingness, reflecting a sense of frustration at being born at the wrong time.
He guessed Tracy Harvey’s intention for sending David Jones to him.
But it didn’t matter, if he could make a supremely talented individual take a step back from the wrong path, what harm was there in being the villain who slashed young people’s dreams?
David Jones felt a clench in his heart and pressed on, “Dr. Jettel, could you please elaborate a bit more?”
“I once believed that unlocking the mystery of the Time Stone would allow me to create Time pets!”
Dr. Jettel glanced at David Jones, his fingertip’s Star Ring brightening, tracing a dazzling golden rune circle in the void.
“I only succeeded a little, the rest was all failure.”
As his words fell, the golden light dissipated, and a pet about one meter long with well-developed limbs, dense fur, and an appearance similar to a simple bear, with noticeable white patterns on its forehead, suddenly appeared.
Currently, it was exercising with a giant dumbbell, disproportionate to its size, stirring up gusts of strong wind.
“Pet Name”: Agitated Koala (Variant)
“Pet Type”: Wood
“Species Level”: King
“Grade”: Class VI upper-level
“Species Skill”: Time Reversal, Four-Poison Leaf Claw, Verdant Wheel Grapple, Concentrate Vitality, Photosynthesis Heavy Fist
“Pet Profile”: The koala species requires twenty hours of sleep each day. Through the Time skill ‘Time Reversal’, this particular koala harboring a variety of bear king’s bloodlines can reverse the time of its flesh, ensuring it remains in its prime condition, and only needs two hours of sleep daily.
“Knock-knock!” (Want to join me?)
Noticing David Jones’ gaze, the Agitated Koala proactively offered its dumbbell.
“No need!”
David Jones waved his hand, his eyes thoughtfully sweeping over the Time Stone necklace hanging on the koala’s chest.
It seemed that Dr. Jettel’s research had reached the same bottleneck as his, where the key issue was that pets couldn’t condense Time Arcane Force.
“Bravery in innovation and willingness to practice are commendable,” Jettel bent down to stroke the koala’s head and then turned to David Jones.
“However, achieving a breakthrough from zero to one is countless times harder than going from one hundred to one thousand. Unless you can find a Cosmos-tier Dungeon with a high concentration of Time Arcane Force, no matter how many Time Stones you use, you will only create pets that have learned time skills halfway.”
“Even the Celestial Dungeon isn’t good enough?” David Jones asked, perplexed.
“That’s correct,” Jettel nodded firmly.
“The Celestial Dungeon is merely a Veteran Dungeon, and it has an unsolvable flaw!”
