Chapter 31: Pear Forest

Wen Ran was aghast. “Why do you carry a pot with you?”
“I like to eat hotpot.”
It really was a yin-yang pot!
‘What an odd little girl,’ Wen Ran thought to herself. After glancing at the sparkling and translucent pot, she asked, “And what is this made of?”
“Ultra-compressed carbon.”
Wen Ran knew what ultra-compressed carbon was by their other name—diamonds.
She was silent for a while. “It’s a little too big. Change it to a smaller one.”
Qiu Shui’s diamond pot turned into a diamond bowl. “Is this better?”
Wen Ran took the bowl and felt that the size was just right. She wrapped the cloth around the bowl a few times and tied it up without hesitation. She then looked out of the window and locked her eyes on the pear tree next to her.
Wen Ran remained motionless, and Qiu Shui could not help but hold her breath.
All of a sudden, Wen Ran thrusted her hand out. The bowl that was tied to the cloth flew out, circled around the branch of the tree a couple of times, and caused the cloth to wrap itself around the branch.
Wen Ran pulled a few more times to make sure it was sturdy. She then turned around and said, “Tie this other end to the corner of the table.”
Qiu Shui was stunned for a while before she came back to her senses. She hurriedly followed Wen Ran’s instructions. The table was moved to the window and leaned against the wall. The cloth was tied firmly to the leg of a table.
“I’ll head over first. You can follow my instructions later,”Wen Ran said.
“What if something goes wrong?” Qiu Shui was still a little worried.
“We still have to take a chance.” Wen Ran, who was sitting on the window ledge, gave the remaining piece of cloth to Qiu Shui while putting a piece of cloth on her makeshift ‘zipline’.
Grabbing tightly to the piece of cloth that acted as a ‘hanging tool’, she made a point to wrap it around her hand. She smiled and said, “You can’t just sit here and wait for the bad guy to covet your beauty, right?”
Wen Ran’s figure had already disappeared from the window after she finished speaking. All that could be seen was the hem of her dress, which fluttered in the wind like a butterfly.
Qiu Shui quickly leaned over the window and looked down. The girl in yellow had already landed on the tree. Not long after, she nimbly climbed down the tree trunk and stood firmly on the ground.
Wen Ran stood in the midst of the pear trees and smiled while waving to the person above.
For some reason, Qiu Shui’s ears were a little hot and her face was a little red. It might be because of Wen Ran’s joke of being coveted for her beauty.
Qiu Shui waited for the unusual expression on her face to be blown away by the wind before she followed Wen Ran’s lead and escaped from the room.
When she landed, she looked back at the building and realized that the tower-like structure was much taller than she had imagined.
She then looked at Wen Ran, who was trying to figure out which way to go.
“Don’t you feel scared?” Qiu Shui could not help but ask.
“Of course I do. This is a foreign place.”
“But you don’t look scared at all.”
A strange expression appeared on Wen Ran’s face. “If you’ve been with a lunatic for a long time, you’ll realize that fear is nothing compared to being angry. Anger is what’s harmful to the body and mind, especially when it happens often.”
Qiu Shui was very confused.
At the bottom of the cliff were rivers and lakes with flowing water.
A young man in blood-red clothes was walking in the forest when he suddenly sneezed. He rubbed his nose and raised his head to look at the sky.
The weather seemed a little cold, and it would be terrible if he caught a cold. He decided to come and collect the corpse when the sun was warmer.
He took two steps back as soon as he had that thought, but he then stopped and touched his chin. “No,” he said to himself, “my plums are still with her.”
It would be such a shame if the green plum he had just taken a bite of went to waste.
The pear forest was so vast that one could not even begin to see the end of it.
Wen Ran and Qiu Shui walked for hours on end but still could not find a way out. Furthermore, it was easy for anyone to lose their way in that forest because every tree seemed to look the same.
Regardless of how strong a person’s physical strength was, no one could bear having to walk for two to four hours. The two of them had to eventually stop and rest.
Qiu Shui looked at the pear trees around her. Her head hurt badly, and she gritted her teeth as she said, “I’m going to set this place on fire once I get out!”
Wen Ran looked up at the sky. “The sky hasn’t changed at all even though we’ve been walking for hours.”
Qiu Shui raised her head when she heard that. As soon as she saw that the clouds in the sky did not move, a thought popped up in her clever mind. “Something must be wrong!” she said.
‘Duh!’ Wen Ran looked at her silently.
Qiu Shui felt a little embarrassed because of how slow she was. She followed Wen Ran and asked, “I heard that you’re very close to Shen Wu. He’ll definitely come to save you if you go missing, right?”
Would Shen Wu come to save her?
“I think so,” Wen Ran replied ambiguously.
To be honest, she doubted that Shen Wu would come to save her.
Shen Wu’s personality was unpredictable. He could be a madman during a massacre, but flip a switch and become a modest gentleman in front of outsiders. In private, however, he often resembled a playful child.
Even though he called her ‘Ranran’ every single time, there was no true senior-junior relationship to them.
That was why Wen Ran never thought of waiting for Shen Wu to save her after waking up in that strange place. The only person she could rely on was herself.
Qiu Shui pulled Wen Ran behind a tree and whispered, “There’s someone up ahead.”
Wen Ran looked in the direction that Qiu Shui was pointing at, only to see two men and a woman under the swaying shadows of the trees in front of them.
The two men were both dressed like scholars and had handsome faces, while the Woman in white would stun anyone at first sight if they saw her beauty.
With only a little makeup on her face, her eyes were full of emotion and there was even a little touch of sadness to them. She also had full red lips. Her sleeves were quite loose, and her waist was slender, lending her a delicate and moving look.
The scholar in blue seemed to be eager to show off himself. He said nervously, “Miss Bai, my loyalty to you is the only constant. I have no other requests in this life other than to marry you!”
Before the woman they called Miss Bai could say anything, the green-robed scholar beside her became anxious. “Don’t believe him, Miss Bai. He only wants you for your beauty. I’m the one who’s truly loyal to you. If I’m given the chance to marry you, I vow never to disappoint you down in this life!”
“That’s enough from you two.” The lady’s voice was as gentle as an oriole, but there was a hint of sorrow in it. Her demureness was like the reflection of a delicate blossom in the water, and her actions were like a willow tree in the breeze. She said worriedly, “Thank you for your company these few days, but our destiny ends here. Please leave.”
The blue-robed scholar pleaded bitterly, “Miss Bai, we might have known each other for only a short time, but I can already feel that you’re the one for me. I have decided from the start that I won’t marry anyone else but you!”
The green-robed scholar was not to be outdone. “You are my whole life, Miss Bai! Asking me to leave you is worse than killing me!”
“You two…” Miss Bai looked back and forth between the two of them and sighed deeply in embarrassment.
