The Tyrant Covets The S*ave - Chapter 38
The flames grew longer as if the red dragon was chasing them. People screamed endlessly as they could not overcome the heat.
Boom! Boom!
The sound of the cave started collapsing.
A pile of stones poured down from the ceiling. If they didn’t hurry a little more, the fire would devour them.
The red hair fluttered wildly without a chance to fall on the back.
Boom! Boom!
One after another, the powder kegs began to burst. The ground shook like an earthquake. It felt as if God was angry.
Thump! Thump! Thump!
Beher’s heart was about to burst under the strain of the situation.
“How far do you want to go?”
Lucai’s cloak, as he ran ahead, fluttered wildly. He had endured well in a situation that an ordinary person would not have been able to endure.
Beher was willful at this fact.
‘I don’t want to lose to you.’
She felt that if she lost to him, she would lose to all beings in the world. So she moved her feet faster.
But the desire to be stubborn was short-lived.
The heat was coming closer and closer to burning her back. There was no time to spare to think. Beher turned to look behind her. A fire dragon was approaching, as if to kill with its mouth open.
“Don’t look back!”
Enraptured by the sound of Lucai’s voice, Beher ran, staring straight ahead again.
There was no white light at the end of his gaze. At this rate, both of them will die.
Was there any way out of this? They had to get out of here. ….
“Beher!”
Lucai’s voice brought Beher to her senses.
“Can you wrap yourself in water?”
“……!”
Beher’s eyes went wide.
It was amazing how well Lucai could think in this situation. Seeing the attitude with which he kept his mind straight, he was no ordinary man.
Beher summoned Neptune as a positive answer.
Whoosh!
A blue stream of water whirled like a tornado and revealed its appearance.
“You wanted to see me, Master?”
“Yes, I don’t have time to explain right now. Put that man and me in a water shield right now. You should reduce the amount of bruising on our bodies as much as possible.”
Neptune tilted his head.
“Not difficult…but what’s going on all of a sudden ….?”
Neptune turned his head and looked at the fire dragon approaching. His eyes went wide. He looked very surprised and made a rare expression.
“Why is the fire following you!”
Neptune put his hand in his mouth as if he were scared and mumbled.
“Hey, Spirit! Get to it quickly!”
Lucai threatened. Neptune, intimidated by Lucai’s eyes, hid behind Beher’s shoulder.
“The human I saw earlier!”
Neptune gritted his teeth as if he didn’t like it.
“Neptune, please hurry. If you don’t, our lives will be in danger.”
“I’ll do it for now!”
Neptune said unwillingly, and formed a water shield around Beher and Lucai. Cute drops of water gathered one by one and became a large sphere.
It was that moment. The fire dragon raged through Beher and Lucai.
Like being swept away by a large stream of water, Beher and Lucai were swallowed up by a fire whirlwind.
It was so hot that they could not open their eyes. It felt like their bodies were on fire. Beher opened her eyes weakly. Then, as the redness burned brighter, she saw red eyes.
“Beher.”
Lucai’s hand wrapped around her back and pulled closer. It was very hot and tight, but his embrace felt cozy.
Sparks flew through the gaps in Neptune’s waterproof shield.
She couldn’t even tell if they had exited. Beher lost her mind in a burnt-out environment.
In the darkness, she could hear someone calling her name.
***
Beher fell into a deep sleep. The pitch-black background had turned completely white.
“Beher!”
Someone with dark hair traced her face through the blurred vision.
“Is she dead?”
Beher thought her vain life was very painful.
“She’s still unconscious. What are you doing?”
“I’m sorry, Your Highness. It’s just….she’s exhausted her body ….”
Beher slowly opened her eyes with force to the voices that sounded too vivid. It was hard to believe that her eyelids were this heavy.
“Treat her now. Otherwise, I believe your life will end today.”
“Your Highness! That….!”
“Save her!”
The white-haired man panicked. As if unaware of the fact that Beher was watching him, the white-haired man grabbed her wrist and felt her pulse.
“….. that’s strange.”
The white-haired man stared into Beher’s eyes. Then, as if startled, he stood up quickly.
“….. Your Highness! The Grand Duchess has awakened!”
She felt a throbbing pain. Perhaps she was not dead, she felt she was lying somewhere safe.
“Beher?”
“Lucai….?”
“You woke up. Ha.”
Strangely enough, Lucai breathed a sigh of relief as if he were worried about her.
“……Where am I?”
It was dimly lit and smelled somewhat of earth and grass. And there was surely the smell of blood mixed in.
She raised her upper body and stood up. But, it was hard to move her body. In fact, her chest, arms, and legs were all tightly bandaged.
“You need to lie down. You have burns on your body.”
The gray-haired man nodded vigorously at Lucai’s words. It seemed like he was a healer Lucai had brought.
“She won’t have scars on her body, will she?”
Lucai said coldly to the healer, unlike the gentle words he said to Beher.
“No! Of course not. Thanks to the quick measures, she won’t have any scars.”
A cold sweat broke out on the healer’s forehead.
“Are you sure?’”
Lucai asked in a quiet voice.
“Of course… of course! You can trust me. Your Highness.”
The healer waved his hand to convey his sincerity. Lucai still didn’t like what he heard, but soon nodded.
The healer excused himself. Beher tried to get up again. Seeing that Lucai was in good condition, she didn’t have much to say.
“Lie down a little longer.”
“No, I must see how things are going.”
Her father’s cherished slave home base collapsed at once. Since she was the very culprit, she was curious to see how the situation was going.
She could smell the burning smell. It seemed that they were near the home base.
Beher brushed off her form-fitting tunic and stood up.
“So you won’t do what I say even if you die?”
Lucai bared his teeth like a wolf.
“….. that’s none of your business.”
All she had to do was not interfere with the contract. All knew that the Grand Duke and the Grand Duchess were on good terms, and even the emperor was deceived. She was willing to sleep with him. But her mind was her own.
Beher tried to leave the tent. But she was caught in Lucai’s arms.
“Rest.”
A short, decisive voice. Her body couldn’t move forward properly at the sound of that voice.
“I didn’t die, I lived. Isn’t that enough? It doesn’t interfere with the contract with you.”
“Contract? Now you care about that kind of thing…ha. How many days do you think it’s been since you’ve woken up exactly?”
“…….”
Beher was curious too, so she looked at him. He was still holding her.
“It’s been a week.”
Shethought she had a dream for a second.
“And you had a terrible seizure. Don’t you know what it means that you couldn’t go to the mansion and get treated in a shabby place?”
His tone was a bit agitated.
Beher looked at him with round eyes. What was wrong with him?
“I didn’t realize it had been that long.”
“Then lie down again.”
“I don’t want to.”
“You irritate me with your honest yet rebellious attitude.”
A streak of blood stood out in his eyes. If she didn’t lie down now, he was willing to force her to lie down.
But Beher was also stubborn. She was alive, not dead. And she was in good condition, with no great physical pain.
She forced herself out of his arms.
“Anyway, do what you have to do. I’ll look around.”
Lucai’s lips clenched. He seemed to be holding back his anger. But Beher ignored him and went right outside.
When she came out of the tent, there were more people standing around than she expected. From the looks of it, they were no ordinary people.
“…… Knights.”
Uniforms like she had seen somewhere.
It was a Knight Order led by Lucai.
“Ah, Lady Beher!”
“Ben.”
Ben, who was just passing by, greeted Beher. His brown hair fluttered. His bangs were a little wet, as if he had done some hard work.
“How are you feeling? His Highness has been very worried.”
Beher did not want to hear about Lucai, so she walked past Ben. Ben followed her.
“Can you tell me how things are going now?”
“….. Oh, yes. The slave home base has been completely destroyed, and we are collecting evidence of who were there. However, we have found a note that contains the symbol of the Vitan imperial family.”
“A note?”
“Yes. It was a note ordering them to go kidnap Lucy.”
Beher remembered something she had forgotten for a while.
“Lucy! Where is Lucy? Where is she?”
“She’s fine. You don’t need to worry. Thanks to her, we were able to get here without getting lost. She is back at the mansion now.”
“I am glad. She is safe.”
When Lucy was abducted, Beher thought she was gone forever. She didn’t want to lose her person anymore. And she was Ron’s flesh and blood. She had to protect her.
Beher arrived at the site of the crazy incident.
The entrance to the cave was infested with traces of explosion. The former cave was dented and collapsed. There were corpses inside.
She could see the burned corpses. The war with the Vitan Empire was in sight.
‘Father, was this the horrific sight you had hoped to see? People are dying, and the smoke rises into the sky. Did you wish for such despair?’
Her eyebrows naturally furrowed. Perhaps this incident would have an enormous ripple effect on the entire empire.
She had yet to find a single clue to stop her father, but it was clear that the Vitan Empire was becoming more and more disadvantaged.
