“This was indeed the wrong choice… Ugh, it’s cold here!” Syamila tightened the coat she was wearing.
“Of course, I didn’t have any other options…” Syamila grumbled and kept moving.
After losing everything, Syamila left and went to Rotevita the very next day. She grabbed the remaining money and traveled to the most northern part of the region by wagon.
Syamila had to walk after reaching the furthest point the public wagon could go. The coachman asked her several times if she would be okay to walk there, and Syamila answered yes.
Well, that had been half true.
She had been walking in this Playground of Monsters for some time, but she’d sighted no monster or beast.
‘As expected, that rumor was just exaggerated.’
Still, it was an eerie place, and it wouldn’t surprise her if a beast suddenly popped up out of nowhere.
The forest was also cold since the sunlight hardly touched it.
“Achoo! Ugh, I think I caught a cold.”
It was her fault for not dressing warm since she assumed it was still spring.
While still occupied with complaining, Syamila heard a strange sound ring through the air.
“Ah-Woooooooooooo!”
The sound seemed to be from far away. However, it echoed and resounded throughout the whole forest.
Her body hardened instantly.
Is that the sound of a strong wind cracking through the trees? Or…
Is it the sound of a beast growling…? It was difficult to tell.
Swallowing her dry saliva, Syamila scanned her surroundings. There was nothing to see, but her anxious mind led her to search for something in her bag.
Among the things her father made, the most useful invention was the Wind Sword.
It was a cylinder as big as a palm that could be elongated. It served as a self-defense tool designed to blast a strong wind from the end of the cylinder by pressing the button on its side.
‘I didn’t know I would have to use the self-defense Wind Sword to fight…’
If it’s not a huge beast, the Sword can buy her enough time to run away.
In this terrifying situation, Syamila tried to move her feet carefully.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Soon she felt the ground vibrating haphazardly under her feet.
‘Geez, I’m not mistaken. It’s really a monster.’
If the shakes are this hard, doesn’t that mean a pretty huge beast that will come? At that moment, the land started to shake again.
‘Aaah-woooh!’
A piercing howl came from the forest’s side, accompanied by a vibration big enough to shake her entire body.
The beast kept roaring and roaring, to the point she felt a cold, creeping fear slithering down her spine. Syamila turned her stiff head and froze in place.
‘Crazy…!’
3 meters away, a beast was approaching her at warp speed with its four slender arms.
Whenever it swung its fist, which was larger than Syamila’s face, trees effortlessly broke and fell to the ground.
‘If you get hit by it even once, it will not just break your bones, but destroy your whole body… !’
Her legs trembled.
It wasn’t an opponent she could handle with something like a Wind Sword. It would only tickle it.
‘Grrrrrrrrr’
Tears flow down her cheeks as she heard the beast’s growl one more time.
She shouldn’t have to come here!
Even though her house went to auction, she could endure the embarrassment and shame. Even if debtors chased her, she could still live in the Batum estate…!
She should have asked Bryce and the Count to help her.
Instead, since she was crazy, she told them she would go to Rotevita!
Has she already reached the end of her life? In a single moment, Syamila recalled all kinds of things that had happened in her life. She felt everything around her flow too slowly.
Syamila raised the Wind Sword against the huge fist coming towards her.
‘It will hurt less if it ends me quickly…’
While getting ready for her death, Syamila tried to open her eyes to face it. However, oddly, her vision suddenly became dark.
At the same time, she could smell a subtle musk covering the refreshing forest scent.
Something sturdy wrapped around her waist, and the chilly air quickly heated up.
“Gorghh, Khikk-”
Due to its flesh being slashed, the screams of the monster pierced through her ears.
Along with the beast’s unpleasant cries, Syamila felt a baritone voice reverberate down her back.
“Take care of the rest.”
Listening to a baritone voice above her head, Syamila lifted her head. Her eyes widened.
It was a handsome man who had lightly pulled her into his arms.
