Chapter 13: The Banquet

After passing through the colorful rose garden, the end of the trail was the ancient castle I saw earlier.
The ancient castle built in the last century was very majestic. It had the size of two teaching buildings and was built with huge rocks. It looked like a solemn, old man, looking at the visitors with great deterrence.
Every window of the castle was made of exquisitely carved glazed glass. There was a fountain outside the door, and in the fountain stood a strange sculpture with fangs and ears and a pair of bat wings spread out on its back. Although it looked a little scary, the sculpture was really exquisite. Anyone who stood in front of it would be afraid that it would suddenly come to life.
The servants were already waiting at the front door, bowing very respectfully to Yvette. Then they pulled open the quaint, ornate door. Inside was a brightly lit passage with expensive Persian rugs on the floor. Every step felt like walking on soft cashmere.
There were paintings of different sizes hanging on both sides of the passageway, yet they gave off a sense of order.
Many of the works should have come from famous artists. I’ve only seen them in books.
I couldn’t take my eyes off the road. I thought Rockefeller was extravagant and luxurious enough, but I didn’t expect Yvette and Ansir’s home to be so much better.
When Yvette saw that I couldn’t stop staring, she turned back to me and gave me a gentle smile. “Ansir found these. If there’s anything you like, I’ll ask him to give them to you.”
I frantically shook my head and waved my hands. “No, no, no. These are too precious. I can’t take them.”
The world of vampires was so rich that it was crazy. Any painting that was given to me would probably fetch a sky-high price at auction. How could I accept such a valuable gift?
As they spoke, they reached the end of the corridor. In front of them was a beautifully carved wooden door. The door handle was carved out of pure gold and embedded with gems. It was unbelievably luxurious.
Inside the door was probably the reception room. There was a long table that looked overly solemn. A crystal chandelier hung above it. Under its illumination, every table and chair became a precious work of art.
Meanwhile, Ansir was elegantly nestled on the sofa in the reception area on the right side of the long table. With one hand supporting his chin and the other hand casually flipping through a book, he presented himself with a languid posture and an indescribable aura of nobility.
After hearing my footsteps, Ansir paused and looked up at me.
There was a hint of arrogance in his gaze. It was still as arrogant as usual, but suddenly, when he narrowed his eyes and stared at me, my heart jumped and I couldn’t help but take a step back.
Yvette, however, held my shoulders, indicating that I shouldn’t be afraid. She even turned back to glare at Ansir. “Ansir, you’re here today to apologize to Cecily. Don’t put on a face.”
Ansir snorted, put down his book, and got up from the sofa. “Just one look frightened you. Coward.”
Because Yvette was there, I didn’t talk back.
One look?
He was a powerful vampire who could turn me into a dried corpse at any moment! Who wouldn’t be afraid?
Fortunately, Yvette and the butler were there. They arranged my seat, and I successfully took my seat.
Yvette sat at the head of the long table in the center of the ballroom. She raised a glass of red wine and gestured to me. “Thank you for the honor, Cecily. I hope you’ll finish your studies smoothly at Rockefeller.”
“Thank you.” It was a pity I hadn’t learned proper aristocratic etiquette. My hands were shaking when I held the goblet, and I didn’t know if the posture was right.
I finished the wine in my glass in one gulp.
And Yvette only took a sip, then watched in some surprise as I drained my glass.
Ansir let out a scoffing laugh. “Country bumpkin.”
Yvette’s eyes narrowed. A small spoon flew into the air and smashed into Ansir’s head.
Ansir’s gaze sharpened. “Sister!!”
“No manners.” Yvette rolled her eyes at him, then said, “Ignore him, Cecily. That’s what he says. He needs to be disciplined.”
I could only smile. “It’s okay. I’m used to it.”
Ansir probably thought I meant what I said and wanted to lash out, but he had to swallow the words because Yvette was in charge.
However, at this moment, the butler came in and said that Rockefeller had called and asked Yvette to go back and settle some things.
As the head of the Discipline Committee, Yvette had to rush back immediately if anything happened to the human students.
When I heard this news, I subconsciously stood up from my chair. “Minister Yvette, I’ll go back to school with you!”
I didn’t want to have dinner with a demon king like Ansir!
It was too terrifying!
But Yvette walked to my side and patted my shoulder in a comforting manner. “How can you do that? You didn’t even get a chance to eat the sumptuous meal I prepared. Don’t worry, I’ve already instructed someone to send you back after you’ve finished eating.”
I… I was not worried that no one will send me back. I was worried that I might not be able to return.
But I couldn’t decline Yvette’s arrangement, so I agreed.
After Yvette left, I didn’t even dare look at Ansir. I kept digging into my food.
My reaction seemed to interest Ansir. He swirled the glass of red wine in one hand and squinted at me. After a moment, he set the glass on the table and pushed it closer to me.
“Pour me some wine.”
It was a commanding tone that could not be refuted.
