Chapter 26: Elvin’s Mysterious Reminder
“Your Highness Herbert!” I called after him and hastily said, “I’m injured. Can you call a car for me?”
Humans are prohibited from using electronics from the outside world in the symbiot. That’s why I can’t get a car here. But as a vampire aristocrat, Herbert should be able to find a way, right?
Although I didn’t want to trouble others, it would be too difficult for me to walk home with my injuries.
Herbert, however, didn’t act as if he hadn’t heard me. He put away his weapon and, with a cold face, leaped into the air and abruptly left from another intersection, leaving me standing alone.
As expected, Herbert was nothing more than an emotionless machine to defend the treaty. He would purge the “wild ghosts” who violated the prohibition and fed on human blood, but he never really thought of helping me.
I couldn’t help but slap my head and berate myself for my stupidity for harboring such hopes for vampires.
I gritted my teeth.. The pain that I had forgotten due to my nervousness enveloped me again!
I sighed and covered my injured arm. After accepting the fact that no one would come to my aid, I resigned myself to walking toward the intersection.
This entire area was the border between human society and vampire society. Normal people who were afraid of trouble would not choose to live here, so there were not many people here.
It was too dangerous to continue walking like this. I had no choice but to endure the pain radiating from my body. I chose a street to walk to. I wanted to try my luck and see if I could run into a human.
Warm blood flowed from the wound on my arm and dripped onto the ground through my fingers. There was a faint smell of blood.
I felt even more nauseous than before. Just as I was staggering, a fair-skinned and well-defined hand supported me from the side. Then, I fell into a warm embrace that smelled of lime.
The owner of the arm took me completely into his arms. His scent was foreign yet familiar.
I raised my head to see who it was, but when my eyes met his, I was stunned. It was Elvin!
Seeing my surprised look, Elvin smiled and let go of me without a trace. “I thought I was mistaken just now. Why are you in such a sorry state? Did you run into some trouble?”
As he spoke, he lifted my injured arm slightly and ran his palm slowly over the wound on my arm, just as he had done the last time we were in the Discipline Department. After the faint glow of light, the wound on my arm had healed and the pain was gone.
Elvin dropped my arm, then studied me closely from my hair to my toes. His brow furrowed slightly. “How exactly did you get hurt? It’s quite serious.”
I thought for a moment, then sighed and told him about Jay’s two subordinates I’d met along the way and the sudden appearance of a group of vampires.
Elvin listened and frowned even more.
He was silent for a moment, then returned to his usual gentle, humorous self. His mouth curved slightly as he patted my head. “Cecily, do you remember what I told you before?” His eyes narrowed with a hint of something else in them. “If you bleed easily… you’ll be eaten.”
I froze for a moment. Elvin had told me that at school. At the time, I hadn’t paid much attention to it, but now that I’d heard it again, I seemed to understand something vaguely, but still not completely.
I thought about what the two kidnappers had said when they were running away… they said my blood was fierce?
Indeed, I was not the only one injured in school. But why did I always attract vampires? Was I unlucky?
While I was still trying to figure out what Elvin meant by those words, he patted my shoulder lightly and smiled. “Alright, don’t think too much about it now. I’ll send you home. You should sleep and forget about today.”
“Your Highness, I’ll have to trouble you then…” My heart finally stopped beating, and I unconsciously heaved a sigh of relief.
Elvin was so gentlemanly and kind, and he healed me time and time again. He would never hurt me. I relaxed a little at the thought.
However, at this moment, a cold and familiar voice interrupted—
“You don’t have to send her home. I’ll do it.”
I followed the sound and looked back. Ansir was standing not far behind me.
He was wearing a long brown trench coat. He stood casually with his hands in the pockets of his trench coat. His expression was lazy and slightly arrogant. His gaze was fixed on me and Elvin.
Ansir’s appearance surprised us quite a bit. Elvin raised an eyebrow, his gaze amused. “Ansir, I didn’t expect to see you here.”
Ansir didn’t respond. He narrowed his eyes and glanced at me indifferently. When he saw my disheveled appearance, his brows furrowed slightly. He lifted his foot and walked over to me and Elvin. His tone was lazy but also slightly intimidating. “I didn’t want to come either, but there are always people who create trouble for me.”
Then, he glanced at me. “Are you hurt?”
Elvin smiled. “Don’t worry, I’ve taken care of everything. But from your tone, you already know who did it?”
