Chapter 28: Noble’s Secret Talk
I felt very guilty, but I still forced myself to pretend to be calm. “I’m just wondering why President Ansir took the initiative to send me home… After all, you’re so… superior.”
Ansir looked away, not responding immediately. There was a red light ahead, and he hit the brakes. Not too slow and not too fast as he said with a calm voice. “Because Jay kidnapped you.”
I turned back to him, confused. “You know it was Jay who kidnapped me? But… what does that have to do with you?”
Actually, I was confused by what Ansir and Elvin had just said, but because I didn’t want to get too involved in their affairs, I didn’t ask them in detail. Ansir’s mention piqued my curiosity again.
Ansir glanced sideways at me, then turned his gaze back to the road in front of him. He continued casually, “Jay is Sandena’s older brother. What happened at my house last time made Sandner hate you.. Jay has always doted on her. He can’t bear to see her suffer. However, he didn’t dare to find trouble with me, so he vented his anger on you and got his men to kidnap you. I’m here to deal with this.”
“I see…” Actually, I already had some guesses, but I didn’t confirm them, so I wasn’t surprised to hear Ansir’s words.
However, I did not expect that a vampire noble family that could be in-laws with Ansir would have a rogue member like Jay.
At this point, Ansir paused and frowned. “After all, I was the cause of this incident, so I think I have the responsibility to bring you back safely.”
“…” I glanced at Ansir hesitantly, cursing inwardly, “Since when were you such a responsible and righteous person?!”
But I definitely didn’t dare say it out loud. I was afraid that he would throw me out of the car.
With his fiery temper and viciousness, it was definitely possible.
After meeting my suspicious gaze, Ansir’s expression changed. “You don’t believe me?”
I paused and shook my head. “Well… not very.”
Instantly, Ansir’s eyes revealed a fierce look. “Believe it or not, it’s up to you!”
Then, the red light in front turned green, and Ansir stepped on the accelerator to the end. The speed of the supercar was instantly displayed. With a roar, the sports car shot out like a bullet. I could only feel a sense of security by sticking close to the back of the seat. A scream rose to my throat, but I held it in!
Along the way, Ansir drove the car at top speed. Several times, just as the green light was about to turn into a red light, he floored the accelerator. I swayed back and forth between his acceleration and the brakes. My head was spinning and I felt like I was going to die.
But thankfully, he sent me home just like he promised.
I was afraid Adeline would bump into Ansir sending me back. To avoid causing unnecessary trouble, I asked Ansir to stop the car at the entrance of the villa district.
I got out of the car and closed the door. As if to prove that he was just fulfilling his duty, Ansir stepped on the accelerator after I got out of the car. The car sped away again!
I looked in the direction the car had gone, mentally chastising myself. “What a moody, unpredictable man.”
After Ansir left, I walked home alone.
I remained invisible in this house. No one welcomed me. The servants treated me as if I were nothing but air.
I wasn’t surprised by this, and I wasn’t really sad about it. I just carried my things and walked back to my room.
However, just as I reached the stairs, a voice called out to me.
I turned my head in shock. My father, Noble, was walking in from outside. His expression was serious, and his eyes still had the ruthlessness of a soldier. There wasn’t a hint of fatherly warmth in them. “You’re back so late? Have you become wild? You don’t want to return to this house anymore?”
My heart felt like it had been stabbed by a thorn. He wouldn’t know what horrible things I’d encountered today, and I didn’t intend to tell him either. I replied coldly, “I ran into something along the way.”
The atmosphere became silent. Noble didn’t seem to mind my overly cold response. He subtly shifted the topic to Adeline and her daughter. “I’ll get someone to send dinner up later. Adeline isn’t home. She brought Audrey to a ball party.”
I nodded, not really appreciating his inexplicable concern. “I’m not hungry. I don’t want to eat yet.”
Who knows why he suddenly paid attention to me returning late? Why did he pay attention to whether I had eaten or not? If he really cared about me, wouldn’t sending someone to school to pick me up be the most basic thing?
Leaving me at the junction between Symbiosis and human society. Any parent would know how dangerous it was to do so. Would he not?
So when I finished, I turned and headed for the stairs, but I had only taken half a step when Noble called out to me.
“Cecily,” Noble called after me again, his eyes on me. His voice was faint, but I could see a different seriousness in his eyes. “Before you go back to your room, come with me to the basement. I need to talk to you.” With that, Noble walked toward the basement before I did.
I froze for a moment.
From the series of somewhat abrupt conversations he and I had just had, I sensed that he was going to tell me something, something Adeline couldn’t know.
