Chapter 40: They’re Still Hiding Something From Me
I thought back to the night before and how I’d been pressed against the wall that morning, and I couldn’t help but blush.
Although what happened last night wasn’t true, Ansir didn’t really act this morning.
But how many times had he kissed me to the point of suffocation?
The smile on Ansir’s face froze, and for a moment, he couldn’t react. It was as if he had heard some nonsense. “What did you say? Say it again.”
Then I repeated what I had said in front of Ansir.
We looked at each other for a second before Ansir’s eyes turned cold. He leaned closer to me and pinched my chin. “I think you think too highly of yourself. What kind of woman can’t I have? Would I fall for someone like you? What happened before was just my desire to win. Don’t take yourself too seriously..”
His words were humiliating, but I was visibly relieved and even a little pleased.
In that case, as long as I tried not to provoke him, I would definitely be safe.
Ansir, of course, caught the excitement on my face. His eyes flared. “You will sleep here tonight. From tomorrow on, be a good little sidekick of mine. Otherwise…” His words faltered, and his voice took on a hint of ruthlessness. “I will not let you off lightly.” With that, he turned and left the room.
Just now, I was thinking about not provoking him, but I always seemed to be like this. I inadvertently made him mad with anger.
I didn’t think it’s my fault. He was too petty!
At that moment, the butler walked in with a servant. He even brought my phone, some clothes and daily necessities.
The butler looked at me and smiled kindly. “Miss Cecily, don’t take Young Master’s words to heart. He has always been stubborn yet soft-hearted. He’s not a bad person.”
I took my things and smiled gratefully at the butler. “It’s alright. I know that in his eyes, humans are just lowly ants. It’s not too much to toy with them. It’s already not bad that he didn’t want to kill me after I’ve defied him so much.”
The butler coughed awkwardly. “Miss Cecily, don’t think that way You’re the first woman Young Master Ansir brought back to the villa.”
“Oh? Is that so?” I was actually a little surprised… because from what Ansir did to me before… I thought he was someone with a lot of past relationships…
That bed was probably set up for his enjoyment.
In the end, I was the first woman he brought back?
The butler nodded. “It’s true. Actually, this villa used to be an old house passed down from an ancient vampire family. Young Master only renovated it. The room you slept in last night was kept because the rumors were very interesting. Young Master never used it before… Last night…”
I blushed and stopped the butler. “Alright, thank you. I understand. Don’t continue…”
The butler, realizing he’d misspoken, smiled and looked at me with kind eyes. “I don’t mean anything by it. It’s just that the young master has always preferred to be alone. I’m happy for him to have another person by his side.”
I didn’t listen to what the butler had to say. I tried to calm myself down. “I’m just his follower. I know my place.”
The butler hesitated, then sighed. “Rest well,” he said, and withdrew with the rest of the servants.
I, on the other hand, reached for my phone in frustration.
Unfortunately, it ran out of battery.
I charged my phone, and as soon as I turned it on, I found two dozen missed calls and texts from Noble.
It turned out that I had been missing for an entire night. It wasn’t that no one was looking for me. Noble still knew that I was his daughter.
I flipped through the messages he’d sent, but my heart was back in my throat.
“How can you misbehave like this? What did your grandfather teach you all these years? Run away from home or elope?”
“Get back here right now! Otherwise, I’ll definitely break both your legs and your lover’s!”
“You’re really embarrassing me. If possible, I really don’t want to have a daughter like you!”
Every word was a knife embedded in my heart. I felt suffocated and didn’t look further down.
Ansir was right about some things. I couldn’t go back to this family.
Just then, my phone screen lit up again. It was Noble calling.
I wanted to hang up, but after some thought, I picked it up and said in a cold voice, “I’m fine now. I didn’t elope. Please don’t accuse me of something I didn’t do.”
But Noble on the other end wasn’t the angry tone I’d expected. It was a deep and worried tone. “It was a vampire who took you?”
“So what if it was?”
“Come back immediately! You’re in danger right now, and you don’t know what you’re going to face… Damn it…” Noble became agitated and even coughed violently.
Just as I was about to ask about it, Adeline’s voice came from the other end. She said to me in a charming and gentle voice, “Cecily, don’t listen to your father. It’s a good thing to befriend a vampire. You don’t have to come back.”
And Noble’s voice stopped.
I sensed that something was wrong. “What are you guys hiding from me?”
