Seeing that he didn’t respond, Ye Ya assumed that he agreed and moved her body, crawling into Ye Linchuan’s arms. She gently and carefully hugged him with her soft arms and then closed her eyes, resting her head on his broad and slightly alcohol-scented shoulder.
The young girl carried the scent of milk, her arms and legs were soft, and she was like a larger version of a soft and harmless dumpling.
Ye Linchuan frowned reflexively and wanted to push her away, but when he felt her shallow breathing, his fingertips stopped involuntarily. He couldn’t help but lift his hand to support her small body.
The embrace was warm and not as bad as he had imagined.
At that moment, Ye Linchuan suddenly realized that even though she was a clone, she had a body temperature and a heartbeat.
Her blood carried his blood, his deceased daughter’s life, and his wife’s stubborn love.
Ye Linchuan felt a sourness in his heart, and a hint of tenderness welled up in his slightly reddened eyes. He didn’t say anything but gently rubbed her head with his palm.
The girl’s hair was also soft, like animal fur.
Feeling his touch, Ye Ya couldn’t help but look up.
The small dark cloud above the man’s head struggled for a few seconds but soon dissipated into the air.
She brightened up and reached out to grab the remnants of the cloud.
“Little brat…”
“My name is Yaya.” Ye Ya corrected the nickname unhappily.
Ye Linchuan’s expression remained unchanged. “Yaya brat.”
Ye Ya hesitated to speak and accepted the new nickname sullenly.
Then she heard him say, “You’ve gained weight.”
Ye Ya’s eyes suddenly widened, she pinched the flesh on her belly, and furrowed her small brow, sinking into worry.
— What does he mean by saying this?
— Could it be that…
Ye Ya pinched his face hard and urgently taught him, “You can’t eat the extra flesh!!”
Unconsciously, the hour hand had pointed to the zero position. Drowsiness came, and she involuntarily yawned. Her eyelids trembled unwillingly and finally succumbed to fatigue, closing heavily.
Seeing her fall asleep in his arms, Ye Linchuan carried her to the bedroom.
As they approached the bedroom, a drowsy Ziyu stumbled out and came face to face with Ye Linchuan.
Upon seeing his father’s cold expression and the familiar little bundle in his arms, Ziyu immediately woke up.
“Brother… mmm!”
His exclamation was muffled by a hand.
Ziyu’s eyes spun round and round as he wondered if his father would harm his own children?
But then again… it wasn’t impossible.
“Don’t make a fuss in the middle of the night,” Ye Linchuan let go of his hand and glanced at him, “What are you doing out of bed?”
Ziyu replied promptly, “I need to pee.”
“The master bedroom has a toilet,” Ye Linchuan said.
Ziyu looked at Ye Ya sleeping in his arms and said, “I also want some water.”
After some thought, Ye Linchuan muttered, “You’re like an all-in-one service.” He then walked around Ziyu and went into the room, “Hurry back to bed.”
“Oh,” Ziyu scratched his head and turned to the bathroom.
A small desk lamp was lit in the room. Ye Qinghe was quietly sleeping on his side. Ye Linchuan was afraid of waking his eldest son up, so he carefully placed Ye Ya on a small pillow and then covered her with a blanket.
“Dad, were you trying to throw Ya Ya out when we weren’t looking?”
Ziyu suddenly appeared behind him like a ghost, with no sound or warning.
Ye Linchuan’s shoulder shook, he grabbed his son and pulled him onto the bed, his attitude was strong, “No more nonsense, go to sleep.”
At that moment, Ye Ya turned over and her chubby little face was facing Ziyu.
Looking at her fluttering eyelashes in the light, Ziyu inexplicably felt healed.
He mischievously poked her chubby face and laughed, “Dad, Yaya’s face is like a ball.”
Ye Linchuan frowned and pressed down his restless hand, then covered them with the blanket, “Go to sleep, you have school tomorrow.”
Thinking of the school he hadn’t had a chance to go to, Ye Ziyu’s smile gradually froze and he lowered his gaze to his father’s brows and eyes. He spoke humbly and softly, “Actually, it doesn’t matter if I don’t go to school.”
Ye Linchuan was slightly surprised.
“I can stay at home with dad.”
A huge change had happened in their family, and Ye Ziyu knew that his father was more important than school.
Although he had no one to accompany him before, he could choose to stay with his father now.
Ye Linchuan smiled when he heard this and ruffled his hair fiercely. “Go to school. I’m not so old that I need you to keep me company.”
A spark of anger ignited in Ye Ziyu’s chest and he bit his lip. “Dad.”
“Hmm?”
“You’re so amazing, you can do anything and you’re like a superhero, so you can definitely get through this.”
“Hmm.” Ye Linchuan got up, turned off the light and left the room.
The starlight outside the window was twinkling, and Ye Linchuan let out a sigh. Yes, he was Ye Linchuan, who could do anything. From tomorrow on, he would pull himself together and handle everything.
He was prepared to face the worst outcome, but he was also willing to struggle and hold onto hope.
No matter what the outcome was, he would accept it.
