Chapter 6: White Dog, I Will Destroy Your Flag!
One of the pursuable characters was a wolf named Jean. His charm was his wild nature and his ability to transform into a wolf.
Though, mentally, I never called him Jean since I had my own nickname for him: Whitey. I had come up with that name for him because his original form was a white wolf. As a human, he had white, almost silver, hair that made him resemble a Baekgu.1
Regarding the situation with Velkina and Lumins, I had to stop all possible relationship progress between her and any pursuable characters such as Whitey. Aside from me and Lumins, she was not allowed to get closer to anyone else. I felt very sorry for Whitey, but ensuring my beloved character’s survival was of utmost importance to me.
Filled with determination, I began to think about the flow of the game starting from the beginning, which in this case was yesterday’s event when Senephin had called out Velkina.
According to the original plot, Velkina was about to be slapped by Senephin, and then Lumins, who stumbled upon the dramatic scene at a crucial moment, would confront Senephin and protect Velkina. Afterward, he was supposed to affectionately comfort Velkina, who so far had not been able to hold back her tears which caused her to be exposed to other people’s malice…
“Oh no, did I just stop Lumins from building favor with Velkina?”
A cold sweat formed on the back of my neck.
‘Lumins, please don’t get me wrong. I didn’t mean to interrupt! I had thought this was just a dream! You’ll trust big sis, right?’
As for Lumins’ charm, I would have been alright even if he hadn’t escorted me yesterday.
Though I was making excuses in my heart, I was aware that I had ruined an important event for him. By changing the plot, I had caused them to miss out on an intimate moment. I needed to somehow make it up to him.
Velkina and Lumins’ “Love Love” event was definitely going to happen in the future, so the first thing I decided to come up with was a plan of attack from a slightly different angle.
Now that the circumstances have changed, I need to ensure that I’ll be able to smash the flags of all the other male characters more thoroughly!

The “Lake of Silence” could be found if one were to take a long run through the forest behind the Magic Research Institute. It lived up to its name since it didn’t even freeze over during the winter or budge when the wind was strong.
An innocent-looking, blonde-haired girl was walking slowly along the lake, which was really suited to this world’s fantastical aesthetic. She paused to take in the view.
“Phew, thank God.”
A bit of sweat had formed on my brow from running all the way here and I stopped to wipe it using the cape that I wore. I was relieved to see that Velkina was still alone.
Shadows from several clouds overhead were scattered down the hill, and a light mist covered the lake. All the plants growing at the edge of the water sparkled with morning dew.
With such an amazing landscape acting as her backdrop, Velkina looked unbelievably beautiful. The picturesque setting really made her look like the perfect heroine.
‘I will leave Lumins in your hands.’
Brushing aside such flimsy thoughts from my brain, I focused on timing my entrance, which needed to be at a certain distance from Velkina. It was crucial for me to get these details right in order to block the upcoming meeting between her and Jean.
If I remembered correctly, Velkina was soon going to stop to take a closer look at the forget-me-nots growing near the water’s edge. Then, she would leave the promenade to walk nearer to the lake.
However, this “Lake of Silence” was actually home to ruthless creatures who were the very antithesis of the tranquillity that appeared on the lake’s surface. If one were to leave the promenade, which was protected by the Magic Research Institute, and try to get close to the lake, they would be met by a host of big and small traps. These traps awaited innocent victims foolish enough to step on them and plummet to the depths below.
Velkina, who had only recently entered the Magic Research Institute, was not yet aware of the lake’s dark secrets. As a result, she will lose her footing while trying to avoid a trap and severely sprain her ankle.
The administration in the Magic Research Institute was really quite lacking. If they knew that this place was so dangerous, then they should have at least written a big sign with the word “DANGER” plastered on it. Oh well, I guess I just had to accept this as a hole in the game’s setting. Let’s move back to the more important task at hand, I reminded myself.
Anyway, back to the game’s plot. After spraining her ankle, Velkina will sit helplessly at the lakeside for a long time without moving. And then the wolf guy, Whitey—no, Jean—will appear and come to her rescue. Velkina will ask his name because he saved her, but Whitey will just leave mysteriously without even answering her. And that’s it, their first meeting event.
In my opinion, if I wasn’t able to move and then some handsome, silver-haired guy came to my aid by carrying me like a princess, my heart would definitely be swayed. I’d keep that moment in my heart forever…
Oh no, I can’t let that happen. ‘Lumins is the only one for you, Velkina, ‘kay?’
And yeah, that’s it.
‘I’m so sorry, Whitey! I have to crush your flag!’
◇◇◇
It would have been weird for me to act like a random passerby when I had made a scene crying out of nowhere in front of her yesterday. I knew she was supposed to get hurt soon, but my heart couldn’t handle me just sitting idly by watching her as she injured herself. Additionally, I wasn’t strong enough to princess carry her to safety afterwards.
As a result, I decided to aim for the moment when Velkina would leave the safety of the promenade and walk near the lake to see the forget-me-nots. After that, I’ll come up from behind and grab her wrist and while saying, “Miss Velkina! It’s dangerous to walk off the promenade!” Then I’ll pull her back to the safe area. This plan sounded perfect to me.
I mentally went over my plan once more when Velkina finally started moving again.
‘Owaah! Why are you walking so fast?!’
At this rate, she was going to get hurt before I could even catch up to her!
My initial plan of coming up behind her and pulling her back by the wrist was quickly abandoned, and I ran to Velkina as fast as my feet could carry me.
“La, Lady Velkina!” I shouted at her urgently. “Don’t go there! It’s dangerous!”
“Pardon?”
Velkina stopped in her tracks and looked right at me.
‘Alright, I’ll save you from the crisis now!’
“You know, that lake has a trap-“
“Aaahhh!!!”
At that moment, Velkina fell backwards.
