- Chapter 43-2 - The Whole World Thinks I’m a Woman Disguised as a Man Chapter 43-2
“Manager Huo, I’m someone who doesn’t like to play fake, and I don’t like being schemed by others.” Duan Wenzheng paid no mind to Manager Ke’s frustration as he turned toward Huo Ran who seemed to be watching from the sidelines. “If you genuinely want to sign us, then whatever you promised to this person, give me everything that you promised to him… then maybe I’ll surely think of the invitation carefully.”
Huo Ran finally put away his expression that was watching from the sidelines. He straightened his posture. A pair of shrewd eyes scrutinized Duan Wenzheng.
“I highly value you.” Huo Ran raised his lips into a smile. “But why do you think that it was me who bribed Manager Ke?”
“Manager Ke has been enthusiastic about providing us players with better platforms. He wholeheartedly puts in the effort to negotiate the signing price on our behalf… but then why did he suddenly feel bad in Manager Huo’s stead for such an amount of money?”
“What if he’s trying to help me save money?”
“Why do you think no one from LGW made it today? Isn’t it such a coincidence?” Duan Wenzheng didn’t continue the conversation. He picked up the pen on one side and easily turned it in his hand. “I heard it’s been several years since an outstanding sniper appeared within the country…”
“Reset, I truly admire you, we are definitely on the same side.” Huo Ran cut off Duan Wenzheng’s words. “So I’m willing to use my promised six times the price to sign you into the Thunder Team.”
“Manager Huo?!” Manager Ke angrily said, incredulous.
Huo Ran’s words were like a stone that was thrown into a calm lake, making everyone in the scene utterly stupefied.
Listening until this point, Xue Lan’s eyes also widened. How could he not expect Manager Ke to have such a huge appetite?!
Even Duan Wenzheng’s lips which looked to be half-smiling weakened. “I didn’t think Manager Huo would be so generous?”
“You flatter me.” Huo Ran smiled. “I’m not giving this price to anyone else. I’m only giving it to you.”
“Then I should properly thank Manager Huo.”
Huo Ran victoriously raised his lips. “Then I hope we’ll cooperate well in the future?”
But Duan Wenzheng suddenly threw the pen onto the table. “I’ve finished thinking about it. I’m still going to sign with LGW.”
“You?!”
Huo Ran did not expect he would suddenly change his mind. He stood up boiling in rage. “What do you mean? Didn’t you say…”
“I only said that I will consider it, and now I’ve made my decision.” Duan Wenzheng said word by word, “I decline.”
“Duan Wenzheng?!” Manager Ke, who was indignant by Huoran’s words, now turned his anger onto Duan Wenzheng again. “Don’t confuse the good from bad…”
“Manager Ke, don’t be anxious.” Duan Wenzheng stood up. “I recorded our conversation earlier. Right now, you should think of ways of how you could best go about keeping your job.”
Xue Lan quietly tightened the hold on his phone that was still voice recording. It seemed that he and Duan Wenzheng were thinking the very same thing.
In the lounge room, Manager Ke’s face became stiff. “You… No, no way, you’re lying, the sound recording was edited by you with ill intention. I’ve been in the training camp for so many years. No one will believe your nonsense!”
At this moment, someone strode past Xue Lan, going straight into the bustling lounge —
“Why if we have the support of a supervisor?”
The familiar voice made Xue Lan lift his head in surprise.
Wen Yan.
It was Wen Yan.
He rushed here to save Duan Wenzheng!!
“The training camp society is already aware of your actions. The players who were sold by you are also willing to testify. The amount you privately received severely created a nasty impact. That means your punishment won’t end with you just leaving the training camp.”
Manager Ke turned pale when he heard Wen Yan’s words. He fell to his seat in despair.
All of this was finally settled at this moment.
Duan Wenzheng cast a brief glance at the lifeless Manager Ke and the visibly angry Huo Ran before making his way toward the door. Just as he was about to leave, he abruptly halted in his tracks. Turning around, he fixed his gaze on Huo Ran.
“Oh, right… We don’t walk the same path.” Huo Ran’s expression was pale, and he didn’t turn back as he walked out of the lounge room.
When he was out, Duan Wenzheng saw Xue Lan standing in the corner.
His fierce gaze softly weakened at this moment. His footsteps were light as he walked up to him.
“Why are you waiting here?”
Though he knew why Xue Lan was there, just like that day when he waited for him outside Manager Ke’s office, Duan Wenzheng stretched out his hand and lightly tousled his hair.
But just as his hand touched the soft hair, it was immediately pushed away by another hand. “When talking, keep your hands to yourself.”
Duan Wenzheng silently turned his head, to see Wen Yan who appeared from who knows when. “You truly are a ghost that lingers on.”
“I’m sorry, but if I remember correctly, I just helped you half a minute ago.”
“…”
As Wen Yan said that, he turned his gaze toward Xue Lan, only to see his eyes were sparkling as he looked at him. Wen Yan’s heart stirred. He had never seen that expression on Xue Lan’s face before.
Seeing Wen Yan looking at him, those sparkling eyes instantly were hidden away.
Wen Yan lowered his eyes. He explained, “Because of an unforeseen event, LGW might temporarily be unable to sign an assaulter.”
“I understand, if words come out that LGW signed an assaulter right now…” Xue Lan nodded his head. “If you think I have the capability to enter LGW… I can wait.”
Right now, the rumor about Wen Yan’s retirement had shaken the whole Internet, but everyone knew Wen Yan could not possibly be retiring at this moment, so LGW most likely won’t risk taking on a new assaulter that they weren’t even lacking in in the first place.
But Xue Lan knew soon…
Wen Yan’s expression was gentle. He gazed at Xue Lan’s sincere expression and suddenly recalled that he had never shown him any positive regard despite the two of them being acquainted for a long time now.
“You have talent, and you take esports seriously, and you’re also very hardworking.”
Wen Yan said with a stern face, “LGW will open their doors for you.”
Xue Lan never thought that he would receive a confirmation from the Dawn of the Apocalypse’s top player, Wind. He excitedly tightened his fists, a thin layer of blush appearing on his face from joy.
“Wind, I’ll work hard, I…”
“All right.” Duan Wenzheng pulled the child that was diligently expressing his loyalty and walked toward the door leading outside. “It’s already late, Coach Wen… Oh, no, Leader Wen, there’s still a lot of time in the future.”
After saying this, he swiftly took the excited child by his side and hurriedly walked out.
Seeing the child turn back to bid goodbye to Wen Yan and obediently allow himself to be pulled out, his gloomy mood turned brighter.
“Since the training camp has ended, isn’t it time to fulfill the promise to meet the family with me…” Duan Wenzheng naturally put a hand on his shoulder as he said this, his smiling voice lightly brushing his ears—
“Girlfriend.”
