Gu Xiang looked at him before opening the car door and getting out.
The store was bustling. Everyone was busy. However, when they saw Gu Xiang, someone said, “Boss Gu, you are back. Aren’t you sick? You should go back and rest! Sister Wei has already left.”
“I’m fine. I came back to pick up something. Don’t mind me.”
Gu Xiang entered the store. After pretending to take something, she left. She had thought that Jiang Chi would have left by now. She had wanted to look for a hotel in the vicinity that she could stay in. Just then, she saw that his car was still parked in its original spot. He had not left.
Left with no choice, she walked over and asked, “Why are you still here?”
Jiang Chi glanced at the bag that she was holding and asked, “Where are you going?”
Gu Xiang answered, “I’m going home. My car is here… I can drive home myself. You should leave.”
Upon saying this, she could sense Jiang Chi sizing her up. There was an odd gaze on his face.
Gu Xiang asked, “Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Are you sure you can drive in this state?” Did she want to cause an accident? Or did she think that she had lived for too long?
Gu Xiang replied, “I’m just have a slight flu.”
After saying this, she coughed twice.
Jiang Chi said, “Get in the car.”
“There’s really no need…”
“Get in. I don’t wish to repeat myself.” Although his voice was nice, he was adamant.
Looking at him, Gu Xiang also started to feel rather frustrated. “Aren’t you someone who hates trouble? Why do you like to get into other people’s business so much?”
He said that he hated trouble. Truthfully, she hated it even more. She did not even want to interact with him that much.
Jiang Chi looked at her and paused for a moment. It was true that his care for her was getting excessive! Knowing that she was sick, he was really afraid that something bad might happen to her. If something bad really happened to her… he would be accused of causing another death!
Although his family had always consoled him by telling him that it was not his fault, how could he not care about it in the moment? This was also why he had been especially against the idea of finding a spouse.
Seeing how he remained silent, she felt a pang of guilt as she remembered that he was just looking out for her.
Her tone became softer as she explained, “Grandfather and my Mom want us to live together. I have since moved out of the Meng family house. So, you don’t have to send me home. I’m going to eat something and come back to the store to rest. You should head back.”
It could be because she was sick or some other reason, but Gu Xiang felt a sense of melancholy after she finished speaking. Humans were really miserable! We crossed paths with so many everyday. Yet, no one in this world can put themself in your shoes.
Jiang Chi looked at her. Instantly, he noticed her unhappiness, guilt, and restraint.
He said, “What do you want to eat? I haven’t eaten, either. Let’s eat something together.”
When Gu Xiang heard this, she glanced at him. She did not dismiss his good intentions.
Clearing her throat, she opened the car door and got into the car. Then, she said, “I’m fine with anything. You can choose whatever is most convenient for you.”
Jiang Chi found a nearby restaurant and took Gu Xiang there.
Even though Gu Xiang was sick, she still had quite the appetite. She ate some seafood congee. As she looked at Jiang Chi who was sitting opposite her, she realized that he was very quiet when eating. He also took his time to eat his food. He was delightful to watch.
Once Gu Xiang filled her stomach with warm food, her spirits were lifted. She said to Jiang Chi, “I will have to put up with living at the store the next few days. I’m going to look for a house soon and move all my belongings there. I will help you hide this matter from Grandfather. I know that you were forced into this marriage, so I will not inconvenience you.”
