Chapter 20: Grandfather Wants to Visit Her
When the elderly man saw her, he grinned. “Why are you back so early? Didn’t you say you would get home late? Chi is early today as well.”
He was indeed different now that he had a wife! Before he got married he would never come home early.
Jiang Chi said rather indifferently, “Why did you say you wanted to visit us out of nowhere? Your body is already frail, yet you are still running around.”
Gu Xiang glanced at him and admitted defeat. Even in front of his elder, he was still cold and arrogant. It was as if he was a strict parent.
“I’m just worried that Xiangxiang would not be used to living at your place, so I came over to see how she’s doing.” Upon saying this, Grandfather Jiang looked at Gu Xiang and said, “Xiangxiang, are you alright? How did you fall sick the moment you moved in?”
When Grandfather Jiang learned that Gu Xiang was sick during the call, he was very worried. The Jiang family seemed to be making a mountain out of a molehill.
Gu Xiang said, “I’m down with a slight flu. I received an IV drip for a day. I’m much better now.”
Truthfully, she did not feel that her illness was anything serious. She had gotten an IV drip only because she wanted to recover as fast as possible.
“It must be because Jiang Chi hasn’t been taking care of you well.” After saying this, Grandfather Jiang looked at Jiang Chi. “You are a man. She is a woman. How can she compare to you? You should look out for her more.”
Jiang Chi realized that whatever he did was his fault. Whatever he did not do was also his fault.
He looked at Grandfather and said, “Yes.”
That was why he thought that women were a hassle!
Grandfather looked at Gu Xiang and said, “Since you are sick, you don’t have to keep me company. Go and rest! Take care of your body.”
If Gu Xiang were to meet with a mishap, they would really be at wit’s end.
Gu Xiang answered, “Alright, then. Grandfather, you should also go back and rest soon.”
It was Gu Xiang’s first time here, so she was not familiar with the layout at all. Jiang Chi accompanied her to the bedroom. The only room he used in this house was this bedroom.
Beside the bedroom, there was a slightly smaller guest room to the side. However, he did not have guests coming over often, so the room was usually unoccupied.
After entering the room and closing the door, Gu Xiang asked, “What do we do now?”
Standing beside her, Jiang Chi was almost one head taller than her.
He said, “You should rest. Once he leaves I’ll let you know.”
Grandfather would not be able to leave in peace without knowing that she was resting. Gu Xiang had no choice but to lie down on the bed.
After she laid down, Jiang Chi walked out and said to Grandfather Jiang, “She has fallen asleep. Grandfather, you can leave now! Your body is frail, you shouldn’t keep running around.”
Sitting on the couch, Grandfather chatted with Jiang Chi. “I’m just worried for you. I’m afraid that you will leave her alone at home. You are all grown up now. Someone your age would already have two children. You should put in some effort now that you have a wife. I will be satisfied if I can witness you become a father before I die.”
As Jiang Chi listened to Grandfather, he sighed helplessly. “Okay.”
He knew that Grandfather meant well. Elders had the same way of thinking. They thought that people should get married. If you did not get married you commited a crime.
After chatting with Grandfather for 40 minutes and listening to his incessant nagging, he was finally willing to leave. Jiang Chi sent him downstairs before coming back up. When he entered the bedroom, he realized that Gu Xiang was already fast asleep. She was curled up on his big, dark-colored bed.
Her jet-black hair was gathered to one side, revealing her fair face. However, it seemed like she was not sleeping peacefully. She was frowning and her lips were shivering.
“Dad, I’m sorry!”
“Dad, I won’t do it again.”
“Dad, I will do better on the next exam.”
