To You, My Beloved - Chapter 45
Chapter 45: A Reprieve
Stunned, Gu Qingcheng didn’t react. Cheng Xieyi then continued, “Qingcheng, CEO Tang said that if you don’t get him this folder before 8:30 a.m., you will be kicked out of Sheng Tang.”
8:30? Gu Qingcheng checked her watch. It was already 8:09. She only had 21 minutes left before 8:30.
“Was Tang Shi deliberately trying to make things difficult for her? Did he plan to use this incident as an excuse to kick her out of Sheng Tang Enterprises?”
As she pondered these questions, she took the folder from Cheng Xieyi. She then asked in a matter-of-fact manner, “I wasn’t responsible for printing and collating this document. Why do I have to go?”
Cheng Xieyi replied, “I have no idea what’s going on either. Feng Yiyi just called and said that CEO Tang had asked that you send this over immediately.”
A call from Feng Yiyi? Frowning, Gu Qingcheng then asked, “Did Feng Yiyi say that this was CEO Tang’s instructions?”
Cheng Xieyi couldn’t understand why Gu Qingcheng was wasting time by asking her to repeat what she’d just told her. Nodding, she pushed her along, saying, “Qingcheng, you need to head out now otherwise you surely won’t make it in time. It’s rush hour right now so don’t drive. Just take line two on the subway.”
Except for a questioning look in her eyes, Gu Qingcheng looked calm and composed. After a brief silence, she said, “Okay” and, picking up the folder, turned around to head out of the office.
Now, Gu Qingcheng was not stupid.
Although Cheng Xieyi could only relate to her what she herself had been told, Gu Qingcheng could hazard a guess at what was really going on here.
She didn’t know if Tang Shi had really said that if she didn’t send him the cooperation agreement by 8:30, she would be kicked out of Sheng Tang Enterprises. But what she did know was that this big problem that had been thrown at her certainly had Feng Yiyi’s name written all over it.
She couldn’t believe that even now, after three years, Feng Yiyi’s tactics were still so clumsily underhanded, so easily exposed.
Feng Yiyi’s intentions were blatantly obvious. She wanted to have her, Gu Qingcheng, kicked out of Sheng Tang.
Once she’d come to that realization, Gu Qingcheng’s eyes took on a look of steely resolve.
Holding tightly to the folder that contained the cooperation agreement, she ran swiftly toward the subway station.
Although the Gus were nowhere near as wealthy as the Tang family, Gu Qingcheng had nonetheless been brought up like a treasured pearl. She’d never had to travel in a packed subway train with many other office commuters during rush hour.
The train was so packed that Gu Qingcheng felt herself suspended with her feet off the floor of the train. She could also smell a concoction of body odors emanating from the wide variety of commuters surrounding her.
Despite all that, she gritted her teeth and endured.
All Feng Yiyi had wanted was to see her defeated and made into a laughingstock. That was why she had to fulfill this task that Feng Yiyi had assumed that she would fail in. And she had to complete the task with flying colors.
She had resolved that anyone who stood in the way of her plan to marry Tang Shi would be mercilessly dealt with.
The distance between the club and the nearest subway station was about 500 yards.
With the bumper-to-bumper traffic, flagging down a cab would just be wasting precious time.
Gu Qingcheng raised her hand and checked the time on her watch. Eight more minutes. With a look of determination, Gu Qingcheng ran in the direction of the club.
