Chapter 56
Elysia stiffened at Damon’s words and couldn’t do anything. When it was just the two of them, it seemed that he was finally revealing his true nature. She should have thought it was weird, too.
“If I was presumptuous, I apologize.”
Even if his reaction wasn’t how she thought it was, she shouldn’t have believed it. Elysia quickly bowed her head and apologized to him. It was her mistake. She was worried that she might have made him uncomfortable.
“You always fear me.”
“…Yes?”
“What I was talking about was that there was no room for the wife to stay in the present Grand Duchy.”
She couldn’t understand what the difference was. If so, what was the room she had been in a while ago…?
“But the room I was in…”
“The room is not for use.”
Lies… It was too neat to say that it was not for use. Not a single dust had settled, and it looked like it was being taken care of. However, saying that it was a room unfit for use was a blatant lie.
“There are currently no rooms left in the Grand Duchy. Other than here.”
It just meant that he would not tolerate rebellion. Damon must be someone who didn’t want to sleep with anyone else, so she didn’t understand why he was acting like this. If he didn’t want to play a good couple…
“When will my room be ready? Is there no room for the Grand Duchess at all?”
Elysia deliberately used the term ‘the room of the Grand Duchess.’ It was a shame that there was no room for the mistress in such a high-ranking noble family.
“There’s no way. Still, it will be difficult for the time being. I am sorry for being unprepared in many ways.”
“No. It’s okay.”
To say that she lied to him, there was certainly a lack of workers in the Grand Duchy to blame. It was absurd to think that such a large castle was being managed with that number of people.
“Are all your questions answered now?”
His tone seemed to be chasing what she was doing instead of coming to bed. Even though she knew it couldn’t be.
“You look very tired.”
“Yes? Me…?”
“Yes, I think you should lie down.”
Although she was tired from waking up at dawn, she did not feel tired because her body was tense at the fact that she would be sleeping with him. As she listened to him, she felt exhausted. Her stiff body was complaining of pain.
“Elysia.”
“….”
“Come here.”
She couldn’t… she really couldn’t fall for that temptation…
Unknowingly, her steps moved on her own. Her tired body wanted a rest. Above all else, he looked so harmless as he sat on the bed. Even Elysia knew everything about him and thought that she was mistaken for a moment.
“Elysia?”
“Ah…”
By the time she was almost there, she barely came to her senses. What was she thinking that she would approach him fearlessly?
“Why didn’t you come…”
“Your Grace, can you promise me one thing?”
Damon hadn’t said yet that he’d definitely not going to spend the night with her. Even though he spoke around, he never spoke exactly.
“What do you mean?”
Although it was just a promise, she wanted it to be confirmed. She couldn’t be reassured at all, but it seemed to make her feel more at ease.
“Today and in the future, you won’t spend the night with me.”
“For a lifetime?”
“Yes.”
She knew it was an unreasonable request.
If it weren’t for Damon, she’d never have said it. She would have rather run away. But, he was no match for that.
This wouldn’t be bad for him, either. No, it must be a welcome topic. She was not going to cling to Damon like other women. While it was undoubtedly a welcome topic, he did not readily answer. Elysia couldn’t hide her nervousness from his quietly thinking expression.
“You really don’t expect anything from your marriage to me.”
There was no way there could be expectations. For Elysia, marrying Damon was like going to battle her bare body. No, she was going out with her limbs missing. It was a marriage that had begun at the cost of half her life.
“Good.”
“Yes…?”
“I will not spend the night with the wife. I have no desire to see the wife carrying a child either.”
At his words, Elysia was relieved to hear that he had no intention of bearing his child with her. Though at the same time, she felt strangely sad.
‘…Why? Shouldn’t I rather like it?’
Her face frowned at the emotions she couldn’t even understand. Damon wasn’t saying she wouldn’t have children at all. Instead, he said, he doesn’t want to see it in her.
So, was he saying that he would bear an heir from another woman…?
In the original story, he had no children. He had no children, let alone women with whom he had deep relationships with. The fact that he was married was enough to make everyone say that it didn’t make sense.
He couldn’t have a woman because he couldn’t make contact with anyone. But, what if it was not the case? Damon touched her without hesitation. It occurred to her that this might not be the world she knew.
“So, come on over to the bed in peace.”
Elysia eventually sat down carefully on the edge of the bed.
While she actually sat down on the bed, she didn’t know how to lie down. What happened if she slept and her robe came loose…? Stiff, she was holding only the front of her robe. It took her a long time to sit down on the bed, but it took more time for her to lie down.
“Then, let’s do this.”
“Yes?”
She only tilted her head when he said to ‘do like this.’ Elysia wondered if there was something about it.
“Is it because the wife is afraid that I will touch you now?”
“That…”
In fact, she never expected that Damon Raphael would threaten her in this way, not with her life. It was because she thought she didn’t have to worry, at least, when it came to bedroom relationships. He was a man who killed others just by touching them.
She thought, perhaps throughout the marriage, that he would never touch her fingertips. Nonetheless, things didn’t go the way she expected. Could she have imagined herself struggling with this thought in bed?
If she had, she would never have accepted him to marry him.
“Tell me the truth.”
“…Yes.”
It was comical to say this to him. The real Damon wouldn’t even want to touch her. But, she doubted that the man before her eyes was the Damon she knew. Even the slightest possibility could not be easily overlooked.
“You didn’t believe me even though I promised you.”
“No, I never meant it that way.”
“The wife is afraid whenever I say anything.”
She tried not to be scared, but her body kept trembling as she stood in front of him. The feeling that she never knew when or where her life might be threatened kept her terrified. After all, she was married to a rare killer…
It seemed that he had misunderstood. She only wanted to get away from him.
“I…”
Even if she said something else here, it was all just excuses. It was only then that realization came to her that she couldn’t be alone with him in a small space and that she could never get away from Damon.
In front of him, she was just a small, shabby being.
“You’re still not looking at me.”
Elysia was careful not to make eye contact with Damon as much as possible. Because she was enchanted by his handsome looks, she couldn’t look into his eyes. When she saw the bright blue light in his eyes, her whole body stiffened, unable to move as if caught in those eyes.
“I’ll just hold your hand and sleep.”
“Yes…?”
“Don’t worry, I will sleep holding your hand.”
She only thought she had heard it wrong. She couldn’t believe Damon’s words. However, as if reminding her of her, he spoke kindly again.
“Is this okay?”
What? Holding hands in sleep…?
Elysia only blinked at the unbelievable fact.
“Why… why?”
She was so embarrassed that she just spit out tattered words. It was a really incomprehensible statement. She didn’t know why Damon made such a boring classic line.
“Then, the wife can be at peace.”
Wasn’t he supposed to promise not to touch a single hair of hers for her to be really reassured? Elysia frowned slightly in confusion. He was very different from what she knew. She wondered if he was talking about sleeping while holding hands all the time.
“Are you saying we should sleep holding hands now?”
“Yes, that’s right.”
She couldn’t believe it, so no matter how many times she asked, the answer was the same. Damon even lay on her bed and tapped his hand on the spot next to him.
Seeing that, Elysia was contemplating whether she really should lay her down as he said.
“Don’t worry, I will sleep holding your hand.”
Probably not, but she liked his sweet lie. It was like the words of a man trying to reassure a woman by hiding his nefarious intentions. Still, that was only for ordinary people… Damon couldn’t.
“You must be uncomfortable.”
“It’s okay.”
However, she wasn’t brave enough to turn down Damon’s words. Elysia was eventually forced to lie on the bed cautiously, crying inside. She laid as far away from him in the corner of the bed.
“Then, you should sleep.”
“I’m okay.”
“I’m not okay.”
When he lay down on the bed, she was terrified and curled up on the edge of the bed. She would most likely roll off when she fell asleep. Nevertheless, it seemed better to fall to the floor than to stick her flesh with him and sleep in the same bed…! That was even more terrifying.
“Unless you want to sleep on the floor with me.”
“….”
“Come this way.”
