Chapter 2: Rebirth (2)

The house that Hua Shu bought was close to the outskirts of the city. Since it was a little far from the central city, the traffic was rather convenient. As the neighborhood was still under development, it was still surrounded by the old streets.
The dim yellow light from the old-fashioned street lamps brought some warmth to the cold winter night, but it was a little dark for pedestrians who walked at night.
Hua Shu was not a timid person. She had experienced worse conditions over the years. It was just a dim street, and it could not hinder her footsteps.
However, when Hua Shu reached the fork in the road next to the neighborhood, a black shadow suddenly darted out of the dark alley and tripped her. Before she could see what it was, she fell to the ground uncontrollably.
“Bang!” After the clear sound of impact, Hua Shu didn’t even have the time to cry out in surprise. She only felt a sharp pain in the back of her head. The warm liquid continued to flow out, and her consciousness gradually blurred.
Before she fell into the darkness, she vaguely saw a furry figure and a pair of watery, glass-colored eyes.
That should be… a cat?
Just as this thought crossed her mind, Hua Shu lost consciousness.
Hua Shu lay silently in a pool of blood at the dark corner of the street. The black shadow that was thought to be a cat slowly walked out of the darkness.
It was not a cat, but a pure black little fox without a single strand of fur. It opened its watery eyes and looked at Hua Shu, who was no longer breathing. Its eyes revealed a conflicted look that was similar to a human’s.
In the end, it seemed to have made up its mind. It sighed and took out a pitch-black bead from somewhere and threw it into the dark red blood, which was still warm.
The bead seemed to have a life of its own as it absorbed the blood bit by bit. The ordinary bead suddenly emitted a strange light that was mixed with black and white. After a few seconds, the light faded and the bead disappeared.
Then, a stream of light flashed and the Little Fox disappeared from where it was.
Hot… So Hot…
Hua Shu couldn’t stand the heat anymore. She opened her eyes, drenched in sweat. However, the moment she woke up, her mind went blank.
This was because she wasn’t looking at the rental house she was familiar with, nor was she looking at the new house she had just moved into. Instead, she was looking at the old-fashioned brick house.
There were red brick walls and gray-black tiles on the high beams of the house. She was lying on a wooden bed with a ceiling. The white mosquito net was already yellowed.
The door of the room faced the cabinet at the end of the bed. The cabinet was about one and a half meters tall. There was a large wooden box on top of the cabinet; there were clothes and some daily necessities inside.
On the right side of the door was a small square table placed against the wall. On top of it was a kettle and a cup. Then, there was a small window that was installed with anti-theft steel bars. The sunlight shone into the room through the gaps in the blue floral curtains. Even from inside the room, one could feel the blazing sunlight outside.
On the other side of the bed by the window was a small desk. It was filled with old books that were often flipped through. One could tell just how diligent and studious the owner of the books was.
The room was very narrow, but it was well-organized. To Hua Shu, this room was very familiar because she had spent six years here.
Hua Shu felt very dizzy and her entire body was extremely hot. However, the discomfort in her body could not dispel the shock she felt at this moment.
She clearly remembered that she had tripped on a cold winter night and had suffered an impact on the back of her head. She was bleeding non-stop and should have died, but why was she in the room of the orphanage now?
Hua Shu dragged her weak legs and got up. The moment she opened the door, the scorching sunlight hit her face. It was so blinding that she could not open her eyes.
