(Ronnie’s POV)
[pr/n: Some adult language, viewer’s discretion advised hahaa].
After letting Allen go, I hurried back to my room. Being in charge of the drawing in the author’s manhwa came in very handy. The garden I had drawn before was the same as what I had drawn Ronnie’s house to be. So I came here following the path and there was Ronnie’s room.
This was too vivid to be a dream. The slight tremor I felt when I patted Allen’s back, its sensation still remains within my hands. My nerves were sharpened as Ronnie’s memories and emotions were swirling around in my head as if they were my own.
I don’t know why, but it is clear that I became Ronnie. While I was finishing up my drawing, someone came up to me. When I opened my eyes, I was here. I definitely saw the face of the person who came, but I couldn’t remember it because it was faint.
No…even if I had met someone, it didn’t make sense for me to enter the manhwa I drew.
‘This has to be a dream.’
“Miss Ronnie, dinner is ready and you should go to the dining room.”
“Ahh!!”
I was so immersed in my thoughts that I didn’t realize who was next to me. The maid was terrified by my scream, fell onto her knees, and pleaded with me.
“Miss… Sorry to startle you! I’m sorry! Please spare my life!
“…Hey, you can’t kill people just by being surprised.”
Startled by the maid’s extreme behavior, I knelt down and grabbed her shoulder while she was pleading with me to spare her. Hah…after all, the setting of this world doesn’t seem to have human rights.
The maid trembled when she saw that I was not going to punish her. Seeing her like that, I thought that Ronnie must have tormented many of her people. Apologizing for nothing, I smiled awkwardly at her and headed to the dining room.
I didn’t know. If I had looked back, I would see the maid’s face become even paler when she saw me smiling.
“Come on, sister. You just let that bastard go free today. What’s going on?”
As I entered the dining room, a boy with a familiar face spoke to me. This boy, who smiled innocently as if he was just asking a question, was Gale Chaliganne.
He was Ronnie’s younger brother and was quite clumsy for a villain’s younger brother. The bastard he was talking about was probably Allen who sat next to him.
“He’s just a mutt.”
Allen didn’t respond as usual.
It was no different from the setting in the manhwa where the Chaliganne siblings treated Allen as if he were their pet. I made eye contact with Allen while with a sympathetic gaze and didn’t respond to Gale.
Allen hardened his expression and avoided my gaze.
Well…I tried to kill his beloved cat. To be fair, I would have cried in surprise. In the end I didn’t do it but I felt sad because it felt like I was being hated by Allen for nothing.
After a while, the anger continued to be poured out from Gale, who kept chiming in. I said while squeezing Gale’s head as he has a tendency to be reckless in attacking people.
“It’s Allen, not ‘mutt’.”
“What? You never said anything before when I called him a mutt!”
“So? I’m saying it now. From now on, call him Brother Allen.”
“What?! Did my sister go crazy? Why do I have to call him that?!”
“Because Allen is 13 and you’re still 10.”
(T/N: She’s telling Gale to address Allen since Gale is younger than him.)
I looked straight into Gale’s eyes and emphasized ‘Brother Allen’. Gale looked at me and Allen alternately with eyes of incomprehension. Allen was also looking at me in amazement at the sudden change of attitude.
I became a little uncomfortable and coughed. Allen doesn’t know this but in fact, I was one of the readers who supported him.
When I thought about it, calling him Brother Allen with Ronnie’s face would be a little creepy. Considering Allen’s viewpoint of having suffered here. With a sense of embarrassment, I fiddled with the hem of the dress with my fingers.
Then, as if to save me from this awkward atmosphere, Ronnie’s father and mother entered the dining room. Leo Chaliganne, the Duke, entered the house while tenderly holding hands with his wife, Irene. Leo looked at his wife as if there was honey dripping from her eyes.
We greeted each other lightly, sat up straight as we always did, and began to eat. I glanced at Allen who was eating quietly.
Allen was the youngest son of the Romant family and was originally a child whose presence was not spoken much about. When he first entered the marquis, Allen had endured waiting for his mother. She had said she would come to see him every night.
As the youngest and the illegitimate child among his five brothers, he was almost like the throwaway of his family. Ronnie, who came to meet Allen’s brother Harry to qualify him as her fiance, accidentally met him and that ended up revealing his presence.
Perhaps Ronnie was light-hearted because she had found a very interesting toy. But for Allen, Ronnie was like the light that had calmed all of the contempts he had endured.
Of course, after Ronnie’s full-fledged harassment, I thought it would be better to remain quiet after everything. In other words, Allen did not despise Ronnie at the beginning. It only resulted this way because of Ronnie’s twisted ways she expressed her affection.
I thought how Allen ended up was natural in a way. Although he wasn’t even looking at me, it is not like he became cruel for no reason. Ronnie was the one who had tormented him for five years, so he couldn’t have been very happy to see her.
In the next five years, he will be recognized for his swordsmanship skills. He was trained secretly by Ronnie, and will then be admitted to the Magic School. As for me, I will become the official successor and take on the role to lead the Chaliganne family and stay away from Allen.
‘And then I’ll meet Viana…’
Viana is Allen’s classmate and was the first princess who entered school with her status hidden. She was quite sweet to Allen, but he treated her coldly because her gray eyes that reminded of Shasha.
Maybe it was because of guilt. He thought Shasha died because of his weakness, so he was obsessed with strength and power. Allen thought that his ability, which was far short of the Chaliganne family, drove Shasha to death. It was Ronnie who was in the wrong and responsible, but Allen blamed it on himself.
“Are you not going to eat?”
“Ah…Yes, I was thinking about something else for a second.”
Irene looked worried while I was focused on my thoughts while eating. Unlike my father Leo, she was a gentle person. She was always worried about Ronnie’s arbitrary personality and was heartbroken that she did not pay enough attention to her children’s educations because of her inherent weakness.
I smiled at her, hoping to show with this gesture that I was really okay. However, the reactions that followed went differently than I expected.
“…Are you smiling?”
-ˏˋ ━━━━━━ ʚ🌸ɞ ━━━━━━ ˊˎ-
‘Was it weird for me to smile?’
I looked at my parents, Gale, and even Allen in wonder as they stopped eating and stared blankly at me. After a while, I felt like I knew why they were reacting the way they were and I was sweating.
Ronnie never really smiled. She always had no expression, or carried a cold look, so it was difficult to understand what she was thinking inside. In fact, I, the assistant who only helped with the drawing, did not know exactly what the writer was thinking when he was setting up the character called Ronnie.
Because I’ve always been so empathetic to Allen, I only ever saw Ronnie as his childhood friend in his flashbacks. Also…I’ve been busy swearing at her. Even though Ronnie’s memories and emotions come up sporadically, I still couldn’t quite grasp what Ronnie was thinking when she was tormenting Allen.
Ronnie’s memories and emotions were scattered like shards, like sand in the desert. I guessed that perhaps the void in this setting was not reflected in my dreams because she was only a supporting character in a manhwa setting.
The catalyst that caused Allen’s personality to break down.
Even if this wasn’t a dream, it would be difficult to explain this phenomenon. The only things I knew about Ronnie were the random memories floating around in my head.
How should I overcome this situation? As I was internally panicking, I saw dust on Allen’s wavy hair. Seizing the moment, I quickly reached out to him and removed the dust while I murmured ‘cute’ under my breath.
“There was dust.”
Stunned, Allen made no movement.
He just stared at me. Allen’s expression gradually darkened and then he asked with a look of understanding.
“Ronnie, is this a new type of bullying…?”
“No? It is only my sincerity.”
“Is there a different meaning between the word ‘cute’ that Ronnie knows and the word ‘cute’ that I know…?”
“Um…no? It’s the same definition.”
Ahhhh!
Whatever I do in front of Allen, he will still be suspicious of it. I don’t understand why Ronnie hated him so much to keep on torturing him. He was quite tall compared to his peers.
That silver curly hair Ronnie had always touched was so soft that it felt good. This was a little dangerous. Ronnie is currently 13 years old. I, Kim Sohee, was 28 years old. There is a big age difference.
“The sun must rise in the west to have seen Ronnie’s smile today, ma’am.”
“I know. I was always worried about Ronnie, who has no expression, but now she looks more her age.”
My mother and father looked moved.
Leo had dark hair like Ronnie and navy blue eyes. Perhaps because of his sharp eyes, people who saw him for the first time would guess that he would be cold. In fact, he was unbelievably weak to his wife and a strict father to his children.
Perhaps that’s why Ronnie, who was always calm without showing any signs of agitation, was always praised for doing what she liked. Gale on the other hand, who was relatively clumsy, was often scolded.
Sadly, Leo had no idea that Ronnie was doing something bad behind his back. He was strict with rewards and punishments. He did not decide on a successor based on whether or not they are a man or woman.
Due to this belief, Gale and Ronnie both took the successor class together. Later it was determined that Ronnie would take over the successor position. Since then, Ronnie’s evil deeds only grew in size and continued to a level that was difficult to stop.
At this time, Gale pointed to me as if he had become a hero trying to get rid of the villain.
“Who are you? My sister was not so nice to him”.
“Brother Allen.”
“I don’t want to call him…”
“Brother Allen.”
“No matter how much you…!”
“Brother Allen.”
“I hate you! I hate you!”
When I smiled coldly and kept cutting him cleanly off. Gale, whose pride was hurt, ran out of the dining room. I don’t know if that personality was a mixture of both the father and mother or a mutation that resembled neither, but it was quite funny.
Was it because he was still young? Looking at young Gale, I wondered if his personality was just being swayed by his sister’s.
I smiled as I saw Gale leaving. Allen stared at me as if I had done something incomprehensible. Feeling his gaze, I glanced back at him to only see that he was focused on the meal once again.
