- Chapter 6 - Wait, I’ll Change The Ending Chapter 6
“My lady, I brought Becky with me”
Vivi said as she knocked on the door and then came in. Becky was quite restless as someone who had been caught stealing.
Seeing her reaction made me think that Becky has not done this before. Because if she was used to stealing things, she wouldn’t be this nervous at all.
“Becky. Do you know why I called you?”
“Oh, miss. What I mean to say is…”
Becky’s eyes were wide open, but she couldn’t make proper eye contact with me. Vivi, who was standing next to her, also seemed to feel that the atmosphere was kind of unusual, and went to the side to wait patiently. Then I asked Becky to sit down on the chair since she was so nervous to even stand still.
“My earring has been missing since yesterday. Do you know where it could be Becky?”
“…Oh, miss! I’m so sorry!”
As soon as Becky heard me, she was stunned and immediately knelt down. At Becky’s sudden action, I got up from my chair where I was slouching, and tried to get Becky to sit back on the chair.
How could such a child, who is terrified out of her mind, do such a thing?
If it was the first time this happened, she could simply be scolded and taught not to do it again. But Becky couldn’t even look at me and continued shaking and shedding tears like a (*)chicken shi*t.
(T/N: (*)contemptibly petty or insignificant. )
Vivi was even more surprised by Becky’s actions, as she tried to shake Becky’s shoulder and said.
“Are you the one who took all of our lady’s stuff?”
“No, it’s not me! I only did it once, because it was mentioned to me by Marie.”
“Still Becky, stealing other people’s stuff is…”
“Stop it, Vivi.”
I grabbed Vivi’s shoulder to stop her, who was still flustered at Becky’s unstable response. She couldn’t believe that Becky, who was usually shy, could do such a daring thing.

Vivi then looked at me with a confused face. I grabbed Becky’s shoulder and pushed her slowly back on the chair.
Becky couldn’t stop her outbursts once she sat back into the chair. I waited patiently for her to settle down before I could ask some questions. Becky had been crying endlessly, managed to calm down to some extent and then I could ask about what I have been curious about.
“Becky. Do you know who took all of my missing jewels?”
“Oh, no. Not all of them, my lady. I’m really sorry. I really didn’t mean to, but it’s just that…my mother was so sick that I didn’t realize what I was doing. After I came to my senses, I already had the earrings in my hand.”
Becky took out the earrings from her inner pocket. Based on her story, she said that her mother was currently sick. Becky comes from a lower class family, so they couldn’t afford to pay for surgery.
The cost of the medicine is extremely high as well. It prevented her mother from receiving proper treatment.
On the other hand, she always sees Marie always wearing pretty clothes and accessories that she had never worn before, and then found out that some of it was my stolen jewellery.
At first, she intended to report it directly to me, but Marie cried and begged that she would be fired, that’s why she didn’t say a word about it. Then, her mother suddenly collapsed, and when she was in the operating room, she couldn’t afford to pay for it. So that’s when she had loosen her senses and stole things that night.
“I haven’t slept a wink ever since I stole them. I was thinking of putting it back in secret tonight…I have nothing more to say, my lady.”
“……”
After hearing Becky’s situation, I closed my eyes and contemplated quietly. Becky was obviously guilty of stealing. It was definitely right to receive a punishment for that part.
However, the reason the theft took place was because her mother was in critical condition. That same reason doesn’t apply for the others.
‘So what should I do then?’
Looking at Becky’s action, it didn’t seem like she was lying when she said she was trying to put them back. How much anxiety it must have caused the timid child to be unable to sleep at night.
I have made my decision. I pulled out a small jewellery box from the drawer and held it out to Becky. She then looked at me with a tearful face. I smiled and said to her, who was very surprised since she would never have imagined this outcome.
“Becky. It’s definitely your fault that you touched my stuff. You should really apologize to me for that.”
“I’m sorry…”
“But I’m also very disappointed. If your family’s situation was that difficult, you could always come to me for help. Do I look so poor that I couldn’t even pay the surgery fees?”

“…Pardon?”
Becky asked me back with a dumbfounded face. She was older than Ronnie, but 17 was still an age that needed adult supervision. I gently held out the jewellery box to Becky.
I smiled gently like an adult to a younger child. Technically, I am older than her based on my original age.
“First, take this with you and go pay for your mother’s hospital expenses. You would still need to take responsibility for your actions. So when you come back, you will have to accept your punishment.”
“Oh my gosh! Miss, thank you! Thank you so much!”
Becky’s eyes shed tears once more and she bowed her head to express her gratitude to me. I then wiped Becky’s tears with my sleeve and told her to stop crying and to go.
I beckoned for her to depart right away. Becky then looked out the window of my room and immediately bowed her head to then leave the room.
When Becky was no longer in sight, Vivi looked at me with her eyes shining bright. I flinched at her gaze and scratched my head from uneasiness.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
“My lady, I am so touched.”
“Huh? Wait…what?”
I stepped back and away from Vivi who was looking at me with such rapture. Despite my reaction, Vivi still praised me by saying that she didn’t know that I was so considerate towards other people.
I felt so awkward and uncomfortable with such compliments, so I waved my hand to try to stop Vivi. But on the other hand, it was also good to hear such words from time to time.
But I still felt embarrassed to be receiving it during the day.

(Ronnie’s POV)
Contrary to my morning charitable actions, Becky was then suddenly bound by the police. Gale heard about the report and ran immediately to see the culprit.
I was then shocked to see Becky kneeling and crying as I went out to the lobby to check out what was causing all of the ruckus. Before I knew it, all of the servants were talking about Becky. Allen was also standing a distance away, watching the situation.
“What’s going on here?!”
“Sister! You came right on time. This person stole your jewellery and was caught by the police.”
Gale smirked and pointed at Becky. Becky’s words were muffled as she tried to protest being wrongly accused while her mouth was bound. I was completely appalled to see her in that state. She was tied with a rope and was dragged in with a gag in her mouth.

‘Even if you are a police officer, does it make sense to bind a child like that?! Do commoners have no human rights?! Why do they treat other people like this?’
I was horrified by the police’s overreaction towards Becky.
‘How can they treat other people like this? There’s no slavery, but the way they treat the commoners are no different.’
Just then, a man in a white robe with a solemn expression, who was next to the police, came up to me. Judging from the look on his face, he proudly talked about what he had done. As if he wanted to receive a reward from me.
“Are you Princess Ronnie Chaliganne?”
“Yes, I am.”
“This child was in the hospital just now, and offered to give this jewellery box in exchange for payment. She said that it was given to her by the Princess, but how would the Princess just give out a jewellery box that cost more than the hospital bill?”
He continued speaking, “That’s why we thought that it might have been stolen. So, I quickly reported it to the police and came here right away.”
The man scoffed at Becky as if it was only natural that she stole it.
So, you’re the one who reported Becky?
I was driven mad by this doctor’s overbearing attitude. So I walked up to him and spoke coldly.
“But that is right?”
“So it was stolen, right?”
“No, it was right that I gave it to her.”
“Yes, that’s right you gave it to her…. Wait, what?! Did the Princess really give it to her?”
The doctor was mystified and looked at the jewels then back to me alternately.
If I had known that the value of those jewels were that high, I should have just given Becky the right amount.
Becky also seemed to have rushed to the hospital thinking that the value of the jewels was about the cost of hospital expenses when I gave it to her.
Becky looked at me pitifully and had an expression of injustice that was committed against her. This happened because I didn’t know the cost of the jewels when I tried to help her.
I should have just exchanged them for cash instead of just giving her the jewellery. It was impulsive when I thought about my actions.
I walked over to Becky and wiped her tears with my sleeve to try to calm her down.
“Shhh. It’s okay. I’ll take care of it, Becky.”
“Hu..Hu..Hu…”
Becky buried her face in me and cried. I spoke coldly to the policeman, who was standing as hard as a rock.
“Release her right now!”
“What? But the situation is still not good…I mean, did you really give it to her?”
“Are you saying that I’m lying now? The police in the capital are very rude.”
“Sorry! We’re so sorry! We will release her now!”
The police were so surprised by my words and then rushed to untie Becky’s rope and gag. Becky’s wrists and face were full of red marks from how tightly they were tied.

Seeing Becky like that, I struggled to hold back my tears. I glared at the doctor and said, “Can’t the patient just simply pay for the hospital expenses? Why do you have to turn people into thieves with your own narrow thinking?”
“Well t-that’s…”
The doctor looked embarrassed by my interrogation and broke out in cold sweat. It had never occurred to him that he might be wrong. Preconceived notions sometimes make people very narrow-minded and condemn others for no reason.
[pr/n: the unfortunate truth of it all…]
The doctor must have been suspicious when Becky offered a set of jewellery that was more than the hospital expenses. However, it was clearly wrong to be so quick to speak with the police when Becky tried to explain.
If there was any doubt, it would have been better to send someone to Chaliganne mansion and have it confirmed.
Since I have no idea on how much the hospital bill is…
Still, this doctor was the only one who could save Becky’s mother. If I let it go like this, the doctor, whose pride had just been shattered, might reject treatment for Becky’s mother. I told the doctor firmly, just in case.
“Now that the misunderstanding has cleared up, please conduct Becky’s mother’s operation right away. If anything happens to Becky’s mother, I will claim damages!”
“No, I’ll definitely save her!”
The doctor was terrified at the word ‘compensation’ and ran quickly out of the mansion with the police.
The fact that he had come to the castle with the police, was evident that his intention was to take a share for finding the jewels on my behalf. Otherwise, I would have just let Becky be taken away.
I stopped myself from wanting to sprinkle salt on the disappearing police and doctor, so I told Vivi to lead Becky to the treatment room.
As I watched Becky make her way to the treatment room, Gale came over and asked with a look of incomprehension.
