Chapter 29: Don’t Need Idiots To Give Them Respect
Zhang Yuan seemed to have heard Ye Kaifu’s inner thoughts as he suddenly raised his head and looked left to right.
“Why do I feel that someone’s calling me? Did you call me?”
“No I didn’t! I was reading a book,” Ye Kaifu said hastily.
Zhang Yuan looked back down and after a period of time, he said suspiciously, “Forget it, these theses don’t have much reading value. I’ll instead go attend an open lecture and freshen my mind. Are you coming?”
It was currently the period for Olympiad math training camps so many university’s open lectures could be attended for free.
Zhang Yuan’s plan was that he would just randomly find some simple lectures to pass time.
Well, that’s more or less his intentions.
After reading through so many theses for an extended period of them, he would also feel tired. Hence, he decided to get some rest and get twice the result with half the effort.
When Ye Kaifu heard Zhang Yuan was taking a break from reading, he could not help but excitedly cheer deep down. It was similar to spring water bursting out from the ground in a dry desert.
‘Haha, he’s finally going out at least… He’s about to give up! As expected, he was just pretending to study!’
“What are you laughing at?” Zhang Yuan asked curiously.
Ye Kaifu was in his dreamland and did not answer him.
“Hey! Are you coming or not?”
Ye Kaifu quickly returned to his senses and pretended to be serious. “Oh, dust just went into my eyes just now. Erm, that thesis of yours… you’re done writing it?”
Zhang Yuan said with a sigh, “It’s still in its early stages. I have just finished reading some materials and organized my idea. It’s actually good to attend a lecture. It will help me relax and clear my mind. I plan to officially begin writing after I come back. It would probably take me a few days to finish writing it.”
‘The f*ck, you’re serious about attending a lecture?’
‘Oh well, so be it. It’s better than staying in the dormitory anyways.’
Ye Kaifu said in response, “Alright then, I would also like to listen to a lecture… but I haven’t attended any lectures from Xisha University. I wonder how the professor’s standards here. But one thing for sure is that there are a lot of beautiful girls here.”
“Oh, there’s a lot of beautiful girls?”
“Of course. You ask me to buy food on your behalf every single day so obviously you’ve never seen any!”
After they walked out the dormitory, they suddenly experienced the wonderful feeling of returning to the human world.
Zhang Yuan took a few deep breaths.
The air was very fresh, with a slight salty scent of the sea breeze. He could also hear distant calls of the seagulls, as these clever birds knew that there would definitely be food in places where people live.
After checking that he had 12 days left on his vacation, a subtle sense of urgency rose within his heart.
Time passed by really quickly!
Writing a thesis was not only mental taxing but also physical taxing. Writing out the idea in his mind onto a piece of paper was also a very tiring task.
The first thing he had to do was to organize his ideas and understand what he wanted to write. This part was usually the difficult part but fortunately, he had his father’s report as a guide which had lessened his workload tremendously.
Following which would be to read large amounts of materials and check if there were any articles that covered the same topic.
For example, the topic Zhang Yuan wanted to do, robot kinematics. The reading materials were too many to count, such as forward kinematics, inverse kinematics, vector method, spinor method, quaternion method and etcetera.
However, the passion of writing a thesis was often inversely proportional to the number of materials read.
And why was that so?
There were times where they would realize that someone else had already done their idea and thus, their idea had lost its value.
There were also times when they came to realize that their idea was basically trash when compared to others.
As a result, it was extremely difficult to write a good thesis. They had to find an idea that someone had not thought of and it must also have practical value.
Fortunately, Zhang Yuan had basically confirmed that his dad’s idea had not been completed by others after reading a week’s worth of materials.
Moreover, its practical value was probably higher than the mainstream algorithms!
He did not know exactly how innovative his thesis would be and how many journals he could submit to. After all, he had never dabbled in this circle before.
Zhang Yuan only gave himself a goal and that was to finish it before he boarded the spaceship!
Zhang Yuan and Ye Kaifu took a turn at a corner and arrived at the canteen. After they ate two steamed buns, the both of them rushed towards a lecture room.
The lecture was about the start and the lecture room was crowded.
However, there was a strange scene—the first three rows were empty.
As they did not manage to find any empty seats further behind the lecture room, Zhang Yuan reluctantly sat on the far left of the first row.
Ye Kaifu could only summon up courage and follow suit and sat beside Zhang Yuan.
Based on their experience, these types of lectures where the front three rows were empty was either too simple, extremely simple to the extent hardworking students could not be bothered to listen. For example, literature and life, the law of religion and human order, world famous history and etcetera…
Another reason was that it was extremely difficult. Even those smart students could not understand it. In any case, they would not understand the lecture so they might as well not listen to it.
Or it might also be because… the teacher was an abnormal one that would often be hard on students. Those seated in the front rows would be at a higher risk of having to answer questions. Hence, anyone with a brain would choose to sit at the back.
Ye Kaifu furrowed his brows and said, “That’s weird, even professors would want to be respected. They definitely would be unhappy when the students do this.”
Xisha University was considered a pretty good university, so it was indeed unusual for such a phenomenon to appear.
Zhang Yuan said expressionlessly, “Don’t think about it too much. Professors are already accustomed to teaching a bunch of idiots for a long period of time. They also don’t need idiots to give them respect. It would be fine as long as they don’t disturb the lecture.”
“You’re right.”
Just then, sounds of rushed footsteps could be heard from the corridor and a young, beautiful female teacher walked in.
“My apologies, it’s my first time as a substitute teacher so my teaching experience might be lacking… My name is Wang Lili, everyone can address me as Teacher Wang.”
Her voice sounded very soft and adorable.
“Come and sit at the front, it’s not good to leave it empty…”
The power of appearance and feeling of righteousness soon coerced the male students to shift their seats forward.
Based on her age, she should be a postgraduate senior.
Being a substitute teacher was no big deal. They could consolidate their knowledge and earn some allowance at the same time. Of course, it was slightly lacking for a postgraduate to teach undergraduates so it was highly likely that this female senior was one of the top students.
When Ye Kaifu saw the scene of a large group of male students shifting closer to the front, he started to feel proud.
‘Haha! Your belated efforts are too obvious! What use is there to move over only now? The teacher’s favor has already been won over by the both of us when we sat here at the beginning!’
But when Ye Kaifu saw Zhang Yuan’s serious expression, he soon calmed down his inner thoughts and stopped letting his brain wander off.
‘An expert is indeed an expert. He does not get affected by the teacher’s appearance at all.’
‘It’s no wonder that in the lives of experts, there are only two words in their dictionary and those words were studying and learning! They would not be wavered due to the opposite sex. Sure enough, he’s strong!’
