Zhou Qingfeng left the doner kebab place in a police car. This electric-powered car was spacious, comfortable to drive, and extremely easy to control. Even a driving novice like him could handle the vehicle fairly easily.
However, it only took a dozen blocks of driving before Zhou Qingfeng realized that the police car had suddenly been switched off, and all four doors in the car were steadfastly locked. A warning indicator was shining on the display in the car and a siren rang loudly to indicate his position.
“I hate high-tech equipment.” Zhou Qingfeng was not stupid. He knew that there was a possibility that the NYPD received the news report and pinpointed his location through the Internet, then shut remotely shut down the police car that he was driving.
As the doors and windows were locked, Zhou Qingfeng had to take out the stolen Glock pistol and fired at the sunroof of the car. Thankfully, the sunroof was not made out of bulletproof glass. After a few shots, he busted a hole big enough for him to escape from.
Before he left the car, Zhou Qingfeng checked his location from the smart display in the car. He had just been in the anarchic North Brooklyn and had now arrived near the East River, right in front of the Manhattan Bridge that led into Manhattan.
Zhou Qingfeng adjusted the police uniform that he was wearing, calmed his nerves, and paced down a few blocks as naturally as he could. His disguise as a patrol officer was very deceptive. Since the NYPD had not issued a bounty to catch him yet, the occasional passers-by who saw him even smiled and waved at him.
As he walked on, Zhou Qingfeng thought that he should find a store to change his clothes. However, at that very moment, a Chevrolet drove wildly on the side of the road and hurtled toward him.
That unexpected scene made Zhou Qingfeng jump in shock. He hastily leaped upward to dodge the out-of-control Chevrolet and watched as it smashed into a building on the roadside.
With a bang, the anti-collision airbag exploded and squished the driver’s face, drawing blood but saving his life nevertheless. Zhou Qingfeng noticed that the body of the car was riddled with bullet holes and a bloody corpse sat in the passenger seat.
‘What the f*ck! This has got to be the sh*ttiest day ever! Why are bad things happening to me one after another?’
After avoiding the collision, Zhou Qingfeng was considering leaving the scene when the rear window of the car rolled down and a young woman cried out for help, “Mr. Policeman, help us! Someone’s trying to kidnap me!”
‘Sh*t, I’m not a policeman. Miss, you’ve got the wrong guy. I’m just wearing a freaking policeman outfit! Find someone else for help!’
Zhou Qingfeng did not want to get caught in the mess, he already had enough problems on his plate. Even though he did not want to get himself into more trouble, it seemed like trouble was actively looking for him. Soon after the Chevrolet crash, a Ford car zoomed over from the corner of the intersection and screeched to a halt right behind the Chevrolet.
Two sturdy men quickly jumped off the Ford, but when they saw Zhou Qingfeng in a police uniform, their first reaction was to point their guns at him!
‘Mother f*cker! I’m not a policeman! I’m just a passerby!’
Zhou Qingfeng was about to lose his mind. Okay, so he got arrested by the police? Fine, he just had to wear a uniform and go on his merry way. But to assume the duties of a policeman while running away? He really wanted to shout to the heavens, “I’m not a cop here to maintain public order!”
Obviously, the two large men were not good people. With their dangerous eyes and murderous faces, on top of the way they pointed their guns without hesitation, it was clear that they were not interested in talking things out with Zhou Qingfeng.
‘Fools! You’ve dug your own graves! You guys are too trigger-happy and always want to attack first!’
Zhou Qingfeng’s mind took action and he subconsciously fumbled to find the holster. Although the Glock 17 pistol he snatched from the police was a bit rusty, it could fire swiftly and was easy to aim with a quick pull from the holster. Since it did not have a safety lock, he could open fire immediately once he took it out, nice and quick.
At that moment, Zhou Qingfeng was in a fast-moving state, firing wildly in the blink of an eye. Bang, bang, bang… Seventeen bullets in the magazine were all released in one go. It was just a pity that… he did not land a single shot.
There was nothing he could do about it. Zhou Qingfeng had never toyed with a gun before. The only way he could land a shot was if he was lucky. Having good marksmanship was a pipe dream for him. He just sucked at it!
The sudden violent gunshots startled the two burly men. Your physique meant nothing to bullets. Get shot by a bullet, and injury or death was certain regardless of who you were.
When they heard the string of uncoordinated shots from the other side, they realized that they were facing an inexperienced rookie. The two men waited for the rookie policeman to empty his magazine before they stepped forward to finish him off.
One, two, three, four, five… The Glock 17’s magazine only had seventeen bullets. The last bullet left the barrel, emptying the magazine. When the gun was empty, it locked back and the sleeve flipped open.
When the two sturdy guys heard the sound of the emptying mechanism, they immediately poked their heads out from their cover behind the car. By then, they had made up their minds to give the poor policeman a taste of their bullets.
However, when they stuck their heads out, Zhou Qingfeng, who was on the opposite side, started firing again even before he reloaded his magazine!
Bang, bang, bang… The bullets once again whizzed out endlessly!
One of the gangsters was out of luck. He was struck by Zhou Qingfeng’s bullet when he poked his head out. His blood splattered when he was shot and he fell to the ground with a loud plop.
At that moment, Zhou Qingfeng thought indignantly, ‘Don’t look down on my marksmanship. Even though I can’t shoot, I can make up for it with quantity!’
He had looted both policemen earlier so he had two guns in his arsenal. One was kept in the quick pull holster on his thigh while the other was in the holster below his ribs. Although it looked a little strange, his placement of the guns had worked out in his favor. After emptying one pistol, he tossed the empty gun away and drew the second pistol to shoot.
After one of the gangsters was shot dead, the other man decided not to risk leaving his cover. However, Zhou Qingfeng was horrified when three more gangsters suddenly jumped out of the Ford when he killed the first guy. One of them carried an assault rifle that looked like it belonged to the AK series which was known for its violent gunfire.
Right after that, the gunfight fell into chaos… The man rammed his finger on the trigger and a rain of thirty bullets filled the air.
‘F*ck me! This is bad!’
However, Zhou Qingfeng’s efforts gave the victims in the crashed Chevrolet a valuable moment of respite. The driver in the front seat took advantage of the important seconds by peeling off the anti-collision airbag and restarted the car engine. The first thing he did was reverse and straighten the car before he drove forward to escape.
Meanwhile, the young woman in the back seat that had screamed for help opened the rear door and shouted to Zhou Qingfeng, “Get in the car!”
With a great leap, Zhou Qingfeng jumped into the back seat of the car and lowered his head together with the young woman as they took cover under the car seat.
The gangster broke out his AK for a second round, firing violently and demolishing the rear window of the Chevrolet in an instant, causing countless shards of glass to fly around the car.
Zhou Qingfeng felt a sudden burst of heat across his scalp and a stabbing pain on his neck. When he waited for the AK’s magazine to empty, he reached out a hand and found that it was bloody.
The young woman examined Zhou Qingfeng’s injury and quickly comforted him. “It’s okay, it’s okay. They’re just scratches, no bullet wounds.”
From the moment the Chevrolet crashed to Zhou Qingfeng opening fire and finally jumping into the car to escape, the whole thing happened in less than thirty seconds. In that short time, he had brushed with death once again.
When the young woman saw Zhou Qingfeng panting breathlessly, she smiled shyly at him, stretched out a hand, and said, “My name is Leila Fox. I’m pleased to meet you, brave Mr. Policeman.”
The short and fierce gun skirmish made Zhou Qingfeng’s heart beat wildly from the adrenaline. He did not shake hands with the young woman. Instead, he eyed her hazily and sighed exasperatedly in his head. ‘I’m seriously not a policeman!’
