Eyeing the three kidnappers blocking his path, Zhou Qingfeng realized that his plan of escaping the hospital through the underground parking lot was compromised. The doctor who tried to flee with him was dead, and the tremendous firepower from the enemy left him no choice but to retreat.
F*ck, f*ck, f*ck!
With the help of the winding road of the parking lot, Zhou Qingfeng temporarily escaped the kidnappers’ gunfire, but he knew that they were not about to let him go that easily. They would catch up in no time.
‘I’m really not a cop! I’m a criminal wanted by the police, for f*ck’s sake! You’re a criminal yourself, so why are you making it so hard for me? You’re killing me!’
There were three floors to the hospital’s underground parking lot. Zhou Qingfeng started on the first floor, but since he was unable to escape, he made his way toward the second floor while the thugs followed closely behind with their guns.
There were hundreds of vehicles of all kinds in the parking lot, and the sound of Zhou Qingfeng running and his heavy panting echoed in the quiet space. He kept moving between the vehicles, making sure he stayed hidden behind the cars as he made use of the darkness to observe the enemy’s movements.
Only two of the kidnappers pursued him, carefully searching the gaps between each car with their rifles steadied in their arms. They cooperated with each other in silence constantly looking over each other’s shoulders while not forgetting to check the bottom of the cars. Their guns swept over any possible hiding place, making sure they did not miss out on anything.
Danger was slowly approaching step by step, and within 30 seconds, the two kidnappers would reach the spot where Zhou Qingfeng was hiding.
If there was only one of them, Zhou Qingfeng might still take a gamble and use Wittier than All to fight back. After all, he had the advantage to attack first. However, the two of them were cooperating so seamlessly that if he managed to kill one of the kidnappers, the other would certainly put a bullet through him instantly.
What should he do?
With Zhou Qingfeng’s crappy gunmanship, the shots he fired were merely for intimidation. Whether or not the shots struck true was entirely up to fate. With his current luck, any impulsive or adventurous choice would surely be doomed to failure.
“You stupid yellow monkey, come out! Stop wasting my time, you’re not getting away,” one of the kidnappers yelled out, trying to pressure Zhou Qingfeng. “You’re doomed anyway, it’s pointless to fight us.”
The arrogant screams echoed throughout the entire second-floor parking lot while the other kidnapper remained silent as he moved forward like a prowling cat. He was hoping that his partner’s voice would distract Zhou Qingfeng long enough so he would be able to give Zhou Qingfeng the final fatal blow.
As the two kidnappers advanced, they suddenly heard a loud clang that came from behind a car, and a dark figure seemed to flash by between the two cars. The two M4A1 Carbines immediately switched to full automatic mode and began firing violently.
The bullets grazed the cars and smashed the windows, filling the air with the sound of shattering glass. Instantly, the car windows and doors were filled with bullet holes, some of the tires were blown out, and the entire car body was on the verge of collapse.
After emptying half of the bullet magazine, the two kidnappers realized that they had unintentionally shot a bottle of fire extinguisher that was left in the parking lot. The fire extinguisher was not thick enough to withstand the penetration of the bullets and exploded after being hit by several shots.
The pressure in the fire extinguisher was not high but the foam that popped out along immediately filled the nearby space. The kidnapper who kept hurling threats earlier quickly realized that they were being fooled. He turned to his partner and asked in confusion, “Where’s the kid?”
“Be careful, he can’t have gone far,” the other kidnapper replied. He crouched down and checked the underneath of the car but before he could swing his gun over, there was another crack of gunfire.
Just as how the kidnapper had tried to distract him by the constant insults, Zhou Qingfeng had strategically placed a fire extinguisher in a corner of the parking lot to grab the kidnapper’s attention. Especially after the fire extinguishers had been busted open by the gunshots, the kidnappers failed to notice that he had been hiding under the car all along.
Staring closely at the two big feet in combat boots just two or three meters away from him, Zhou Qingfeng took his time to make sure that he had aimed his shot before pulling the trigger. This time, he focused on controlling the gun muzzle, before aiming and taking his shot.
This was where Zhou Qingfeng’s “Gifted” attribute came into play—he was able to pick up skills at an extraordinary speed. After failing consecutively for the first couple of times, he had finally learned from the mistakes he made in his first few tries and got the hang of it.
After firing three consecutive shots, he heard a scream followed by the thud of a body hitting the ground.
“I’m shot! I’m shot! John, he’s under the car! He’s under the car!” The kidnapper who got shot dragged his injured leg as he pulled himself to safety while calling out to his partner.
Gunshots sounded again and, along with what resembled the sound of popcorn popping, the gunshots hit the car where Zhou Qingfeng was hiding under. The bullets were of military use and were therefore powerful enough to penetrate the car body, even punching through the steering wheel before hitting the ground.
Zhou Qingfeng was not eager to push his luck either. He knew he was at a disadvantage, so after firing three shots, he immediately rolled over and moved himself to the bottom of another car. Seizing the opportunity while both the kidnappers were distracted, he quickly switched places.
“D*mn it, my foot!” The injured kidnapper leaned on a column and tore the corner of his shirt off to bandage the wound to prevent losing too much blood and risk losing consciousness. As he worked on it, he grumbled irritatedly, “John, kill that policeman! Kill him, no matter what.”
“Shut up,” the kidnapper named John growled. His comrade’s misfortune reminded him to be more vigilant and alert to his surroundings. He cast a glance at his comrade’s injured leg and asked, “Can you walk?”
John spoke as he pointed his gun at Zhou Qingfeng’s direction but he had turned momentarily to look at his comrade. His partner was just about to shout out to him to be careful when Zhou Qingfeng suddenly poked his head from beneath a car and launched the next attack.
Zhou Qingfeng was truly doing everything he could to survive this death pit!
He had succeeded in injuring one of them and he must launch the next attack before the other had time to readjust and come around. After all, he would always have the upper hand when it came to one-to-one combat! With his “Witty” attribute, he would be able to notice the enemy and launch the first attack, dealing the first blow!
Right then, everything happened in slow motion in Zhou Qingfeng’s eyes, thanks to his Witter than All attribute which allowed him to focus and zone in on his surroundings. When the bullet was fired out from the Glock in his hand, the John guy had not even turned around yet.
Bang bang bang… To make up for what he lacked in accuracy, Zhou Qingfeng compensated with quantity. In a blink of an eye, he had emptied the entire bullet magazine that had seventeen bullets. Either way, as long as he fired the shots, the enemy would certainly be intimidated and frightened. The possibility of the bullets flying all over the place scaring them to death was probably higher than actually hitting them.
Sure enough, the two kidnappers were terrified and in shock. Their first instinct was to dodge Zhou Qingfeng’s attack as the bullets landed all over the columns and the ground in the parking lot.
When he heard the clicking sound of the empty magazine, Zhou Qingfeng quickly slipped away. In that split ten seconds, he even had a closeup of the kidnapper’s face, including their bumps and pimples.
Short-ranged crossfire was nerve-wracking, and because of how tensed up he was, his brain blanked out completely and he was shaking all over.
After running off for another ten or so meters, Zhou Qingfeng suddenly remembered that he should reload his gun. “I fired 17 shots and none of them hit my target. If I want to survive, I really have to learn how to fire a gun,” he muttered to himself.
When Zhou Qingfeng launched his sudden attack, one of the bullets shot John in the neck and blood sprayed all over his comrade’s face. When he dragged John behind a pillar to evade Zhou Qingfeng’s bullets, he noticed that John was clutching the bullet wound on his neck tightly and he seemed to be on the verge of death.
Right then, their ringleader who was holding Leila Fox captive, Locke, was checking the situation at their side through the wireless radio. John pressed a button to connect the call and tried to say something, but the wound on his neck made him unable to speak, and so only the sound of gurgling blood in his mouth passed through the line.
