Chapter 74 – Cunning Schemes
Mei Qian Deng was a frank person. She disliked to be roundabout.
She stared attentively at that Thousand Autumns Mirror in her hand. Her expression was calm but she was seriously starting to consider to break the mirror or not.
The sun was setting and the wind was rising. The night was approaching.
It was a moment of silence.
Chu Xun was nervous. His eyes didn’t blink as he watched Mei Qian Deng’s every moves. Unconsciously he had stopped breathing.
To be honest, His Majesty currently even felt Mei Qian Deng would not return with him to be his Empress. But he was betting on Mei Qian Deng softening and couldn’t bring herself to cruelly smash the mirror into pieces.
Sometimes, an action spoke louder than a word. Mental acceptance level would be higher too.
Later the scheming Emperor Chu Xun noticed Mei Qian Deng glanced at the ground. His sight followed downward to the muddy ground under his feet and then to that stepping-rock behind him. The scheming Emperor’s body shuddered. He was startled! What was he flustering for? Because the scheming Emperor still had a small scheme. The muddy ground was soft. The bronze mirror wouldn’t break after you throw it to the ground. If Mei Qian Deng really throw the mirror, he could still refuse to acknowledge since the mirror didn’t break and hence this round was invalid.
However, it was obvious, female warrior Mei’s move stated clearly that she possibly wanted to throw the mirror at that rock……
“Mei……” Chu Xun nervously tried to stop her.
It was at this moment, an arrow flew towards them. Mei Qian Deng seemed to be subconsciously as she pushed Chu Xun to her back to protect him. A silver light flashed. The flexible sword hidden in her sleeve had successfully deflected this surprise attack. In a blink, Chu Xun’s shadow bodyguards led by Mo Biao descended from above and tightly protected Chu Xun.
(Mo Biao: Your mom, this gossipy scene I’m peeking at is currently at the critical moment. Which bastard release the concealed weapon?! Come out for this old lady, this old lady promise will not beat you to death!)
The approaching people were clearly carried the desire to must kill. The first arrow failed yet they didn’t escape. Instead, more than ten people attacked from all directions. All of them had a murderous eyes. They were like the malevolent ghosts crawling out from the hell trying to demand Chu Xun’s life.
The sudden assassination was however within the prediction of Chu Xun’s group of people. Chu Xun was very precious as the nation’s monarch. Normally he would be inside the palace which was very hard to assassinate him. Now he had left the palace and only brought this few bodyguards with him. The chance was a rare one. Missing this time, they didn’t know how long they had to wait for another chance. Not trying to assassinate him was really absurd for a splendid assassin. As for the assassin’s origin, it was not that hard to guess.
Chu Xun smirked, “If zhen dies, your master will have to be buried with zhen.”
The leading assassin was incessantly conceited, “Talk again after you’re dead.”
Saying so, they started to fight.
Those people’s martial arts were very high. They must be carefully picked and had prepared well for this.
Mei Qian Deng led Chu Xun to retreat while fighting. They retreated to the wall. She let Chu Xun stand well close to the wall and asked in soft voice, “Prince Chen’s people?”
“En.”
“Do you have reinforcements?”
The assassins far outmatched the shadow guards’ number.
At the same time, Mo Biao who was not far away from them released a signal firework to the night sky.
Mei Qian Deng was pleased internally and sighed of relief. Those assassins’ movements had clear behaviour. While fighting, they seemed to intentionally attract them. During the fight, Chu Xun’s shadow bodyguards had scattered around with the assassins. The people protecting him by his side slowly decreased.
Possibly because they heard an astir, Xiao Jing Zi too had hurriedly arrived. Trespassing the courtyard, he screamed, “aiya” before retreating three steps. Sticking himself on the door, he searched for Chu Xun. After he found Chu Xun, he gritted his teeth as he ran towards Chu Xun’s location while waving his orchid-shaped fingers, “Your Majesty! Your Majesty, are you alright?”
Xiao Jing Zi and Chu Xun stood on both sides of Chu Xun.
Chu Xun, “Zhen’s people will arrive soon. We shouldn’t stay at here.” Chu Xun had probably saw through that these assassins still had another trick in their hands.
“Your Majesty! Nucai will protect you while you leave. Little Young Master, please help provide cover for His Majesty!” Xiao Jing Zi pulled out a dagger from his shoes and placed it in front of his chest.
Mei Qian Deng was about to nod her head when her hands got held tightly by Chu Xun. She heard Chu Xun’s order that wouldn’t accept any decline, “You just have to stay properly at zhen’s side. You’re not allowed to go anywhere.” Five years ago, that scene of disappearing without notice, Chu Xun always had the trauma of it. He was really scared Mei Qian Deng would repeat the same old move.
Chu Xun pushed Xiao Jing Zi to outside, “Don’t come here to create more trouble.” He pulled Mei Qian Deng and about to climb over the wall.
On the other side of the wall was Sixth Young Master Mei’s lair. Chu Xun had suffered losses at next door before. His image of it was especially bad. However, with those traps of Sixth Young Master Mei’s, they could provide some help. Mei Qian Deng understood Chu Xun’s intention. She pulled Chu Xun and with a kick they had climbed over the wall and coincidentally landed right before Sixth Mei.
Mei Qing Ping blinked his eyes. He didn’t say anything. He remained at that spot for a long time, troubled whether to help them or not.
“Sixth Brother, borrow your place to hide.”
Without waiting Sixth Mei to nod his head, another meat block had climbed over the wall as well. With a loud shout, “Your Majesty, please wait for nucai! Nucai want to live and die together with you!” The meat block fell down and rolled two times. For Xiao Jing Zi to be risk his life like this for Chu Xun, Chu Xun opened his eyes wide. He silently spoke to himself it was his first time seeing this.
Sixth Mei brought the three to the centre of the house. On the way, he appeared to be nonchalant as he asked Mei Qian Deng, “Where is Xiao Xian?”
The answer he got was a silent.
Sixth Mei stopped moving. His eyes were currently sizing up the three people as he interrogated. Those three people didn’t know anything. It was still Mei Qian Deng who consoled him, “Xiao Xian had always been clever. She likely had already escaped. It’s more important to protect His Majesty.”
Currently was not a good time to ask. Sixth Mei had a heavy face and didn’t say anything.
Just like Chu Xun said, very quickly, a troop of soldiers had arrived. They heavily encompassed the Mei Mansion. Arriving with the soldiers were a group of jianghu people in black, light clothes. They were experts specially selected by Zhao Mo Ran from Zhao family. Each of them were aloof and profound. They didn’t listen to the Emperor. Appearing and disappearing suddenly, they were only responsible of protecting him.
Some assassins had chased after them. That moment when they activated the traps, they indeed had trouble against the traps. However, the people behind him already had precautions. Two assassins had still managed to arrive before Chu Xun. Sixth Mei stopped one of them. The other one was the assassins’ leader. His eyes were violent as he glared at Chu Xun, “Young Emperor, today is your death day.”
At the back, Mo Biao rushed forward and threw a dart at the back of that assassin, “Dare to curse my master? See how this old lady doesn’t stab you into a hole.”
Chu Xun wordlessly watched the scene. He estimated how much longer before they could dispose all these assassins. His hands suddenly enveloped Mei Qian Deng’s whole hand. Mei Qian Deng moved her hand but it resulted in the scheming Emperor grabbing it even tighter.
“Your Majesty, if you hold me like this, I can’t fight.”
“There is no need for you to fight. It’s about to end.”
It was according to Chu Xun’s prediction. The assassins in the Mei Mansion had mostly been dealt with. Most of the shadow bodyguards were approaching Chu Xun. Yet, things could never happen too smoothly. Just like now, Sixth Mei had knocked down the assassin. He turned his head around and helped Mo Biao to fight that leader together. Looking at the current situation, it seemed like it was only the assassin’s leader who had yet to die.
Hence, everyone’s focus was directed at that person. Unforeseen situation usually happened at this time. Chu Xun felt a cold wind at his back. When he turned around, he saw Xiao Jing Zi who was at his side was currently revealing a malicious look. The dagger in his hand that he previously used to protect himself had in the flash arrived at Chu Xun’s chest.
So the assassins did still have another trick.
This move, was not expected by Chu Xun and everyone.
Mei Qian Deng couldn’t be say as too late or too early. Her hand quickly removed itself from Chu Xun’s grab and barehanded caught the dagger. She put her palm right in front of Chu Xun’s chest that about to be stabbed, using her flesh to impede that dagger’s attack. Following that, she turned her hand to grab that dagger’s body. With a light push, she jolted ‘Xiao Jing Zi’s hand that was holding the dagger.
That ‘Xiao Jing Zi’ grabbed his palm and retreated half a step. He gritted his teeth.
Chu Xun’s eyes turned red in a split second, “Damn it!” He didn’t have any weapon. Right now, he hated himself not able to rush forward and personally tear that ‘Xiao Jing Zi’ to shreds.
Sadly, Chu Xun didn’t have this chance. The moment Sixth Mei saw his own little sister got tricked by the foe, he had already flew forward to settle accounts with that person. However, equally sadly, Sixth Mei didn’t have this chance. Just as Sixth Mei’s sword about to chop down ‘Xiao Jing Zi’, a weapon broke the wind. That ‘Xiao Jing Zi’ didn’t able to even blink his eyes. He only felt the back of his head cold. His head had been gouged open a hole by someone.
‘Xiao Jing Zi’s throat made some weird ‘kakaka’ sound. Sixth Mei didn’t plan to have mercy on him. With a slash, he cut open that person’s throat. Mei family’s sword arts had always been extremely fast. With a cold flash, the injury made by Sixth Mei’s sword didn’t have a trace of blood. ‘Xiao Jing Zi’ tried to hold his neck when he suddenly fell down.
Mei Qian Deng saw when that person about to die, he evilly made a grin towards her.
“Little Seventh!”
After ‘Xiao Jing Zi’ fell down, it revealed the person behind him who had attacked the earliest——Zhao Mo Ran.
He received the news from Qian Wan San that Mei Qian Deng had been caught by the Emperor. He rushed over here after thinking of appropriate countermeasures. Yet he was still a bit too late. Zhao Mo Ran felt extremely regretful. If he had immediately rush over after receiving the news, it was possibly Mei Qian Deng wouldn’t be injured.
Everyone looked at Mei Qian Deng.
Currently, female warrior Mei was calmly poked several acupoints on her hand and straightforwardly said to Chu Xun, “There’s a poison on the dagger.” Her expression was too calm until Chu Xun thought what he heard was an imagination. Yet, after that, Mei Qian Deng turned weak and fell down. Both her eyes rolled back perfectly as she turned unconscious.
“Qian Deng!”
“Little Seventh!”
Chu Xun pounced forward and caught Mei Qian Deng. Zhao Mo Ran originally plan to push Chu Xun away but he didn’t dare. After all, that person was the Emperor. He bit his molars as he inspected Mei Qian Deng’s injured hand. Both her blood and flesh had turned into dark black colour.
Mo Biao defeated the last assassin. She was too absorbed in fighting so she had yet to realise the accident. After she was done with the assassin, she turned her body around, preparing to report to Chu Xun. Are[1]? Where is His Majesty? Where is female warrior Mei?
