- Chapter 45-5 - What Kind Of Newbie Are You?! They Said That “Summoner” Is A Terrible Job, Yet They Call Her The Last Boss Chapter 45-5
An earthen dungeon that connects the First and Second Layers. Many elementary school players gathered at the entrance to this dungeon.
They were the members of the guild Second Stage, run by the members of the elementary school party who once got involved with Johann in this dungeon and were routed by her.
They were waiting here for a classmate named Cross, who started this game last week.
“Why did you invite him…?” Ogre asked.
Everyone was eagerly awaiting Cross’s arrival, but only one, Ogre, hated Cross for joining their group.
“If we let him in, the guild that we’ve worked so hard to create will be in shambles,” Ogre said.
“But we want to win the guild battle next month,” one of the others said.
“For that, we need the power of that boy genius,” a second adds.
“Yeah. We’ll do whatever it takes to get revenge on the adults,” a third said.
“Because we’re elementary school students, we’ve been getting killed a lot,” a fourth said.
Those elementary school players are often killed by other players. But it’s not because GOO players have bad manners. It’s not bad manners because these elementary school students oftentimes attack and annoy the other players, as little kids do. GOO has many players who will cooperate with you if you honestly say “I want to play with you.” or “I want you to help me.”
Despite this, they were killed because their first words were always “Give me all your good items.” and so on, just like thugs. In other words, they were all killed in self-defense.
“Yeah, it’s our fault, isn’t it?” Ogre always said but was never heard.
As Ogre belonged to the Soccer Club, he was strictly trained in politeness, but not all the other members of the guild are like that. Still innocent and childish, their anger was completely aimed at adult players. Then, with the belief that they were unreasonably persecuted in-game, they invited Cross to play with them.
And dozens of minutes pass as they wait. A young boy player exits the dirt cave that is the Dungeon of Insects.
“Hey, you’re here… umm, Cross-kun!” Ogre said.
The 12-year-old boy named “Cross” appears. His golden hair is a perfect match for his naturally clever looks. He wears unusual armor on his body and carries a large bow on his back.
“Hey, sorry to have made you wait, everyone,” Cross said, gently smiling at the other elementary school players.
Ogre clicked his tongue lightly at that, as it would unintentionally make flutter the heart of a girl of their age or an older woman with an interest in younger people. Ogre belongs to the same Soccer Club team as Cross, and because they are competing for the same position, they have a one-sided rivalry on Ogre’s side. On the contrary, Cross doesn’t even seem to acknowledge that Ogre exists.
“Cross-kun, are you alone?” one of the members said.
“Who are your party members!?” another said.
“Huh, but I cleared it by myself? Was there something wrong with that?” Cross said.
“A-Amazing-gggg…!”
“You managed to beat Kuwa Geiger alone!”
“Just like a genius would!”
“Hahaha, it was surprisingly easy,” Cross said like he barely broke a sweat. “Well then, I’ll join your guild, everyone, but it’s alright if I become guild master, isn’t it?”
He approaches Zoma, the current guild master of Second Stage. Zoma stares at him blankly.
“Huh… no…?” Zoma said.
“Are you against it? Then I guess I won’t join,” Cross said.
“Hey, Zoma. Give it up,” another said.
“You shouldn’t have been it in the first place,” another snapped.
“Ah, aah…” Zoma said. “I understand. I’ll leave it to you, Cross.”
“You should have done that from the beginning, this was a waste of time,” Cross said.
As Zoma opened his menu, Cross joined the guild and became its new master, too.
As Ogre watched it happen, he muttered, “Are you all even seeing this?” Although Cross is touted as a genius, Ogre can see Cross’s tendency to look down on others.
“Thank you, Zoma,” Cross said. “Now that you’ve entrusted me with the position of the guild master, I’ll make this guild the strongest there was.”
“Ah… yeah,” Zoma said. “We’re counting on you, Cross-kun.”
“First of all, I’m thinking of making this guild a guild for elementary school students only,” Cross said.
At that, he opened the guild members list. “Can you tell me who is in middle school or older here? They’ll be kicked immediately.”
“Huh… no, that’s…”
“No, wait, Cross-kun!”
The elementary school boys panicked about the sudden action.
“You’re not going to tell me?” Cross said. “Well, that’s fine. Let’s see. This Cougar and this †Gabriel†?”
Everyone got goosebumps. Because he was right on the mark. Those two were the middle school and above members of Second Stage.
“Ho-How did you know?”
“It’s easy. Their names and levels,” Cross says as if it was nothing.
“We elementary school students are busy. Useless school, cram school, lessons, and sports,” Cross said. “We are doing our best now for the sake of a bright future. The only time we can play games is to relax. But adults are different. Their lives are already over. That’s why they have a lot of time to play games. Look, only these two are level 50, right?
“No—but…” one of the members said.
“The other adults suck ass, but those two are really good people.”
“Yeah. They’re kind and they even give us strategy tips.”
“It’s a little bit much to kick them out.”
Elementary school students don’t defy adults. They feel attached to the players who were usually kind to them. However, Cross’s voice sounds like he didn’t even particularly care.
“Strategy information isn’t for sale, isn’t it? By the way…”
Cross opened his menu and showed off his Skill list. Then, he points to the Skill Judgment of the Gods.
“This is an Archer-exclusive Skill, Judgment of the Gods,” Cross said. “You can get it if you defeat Kuwa Geiger for the first time and defeat it alone… did those people tell you about this?”
“N-No……”
“I don’t think they know…”
“Is that so?” Cross said. “Well, I think I’m the only one who knows this.”
He puffs up his chest and continues, “Besides, I already have three Unique Skills and Unique Equipment.”
“Wha–?” Ogre spluttered.
From looking bored until then, he unintentionally raised his voice. Ogre also wanted Unique Equipment and was the sort of player to do all sorts of things to experiment.
“So, Zoma,” Cross said. “Can you teach the people you’re in charge of how to get Unique Equipment and Unique Skills?”
“No… nobody knows about them,” Zoma said.
“Well I do,” Cross said.
“Huh!?”
“I’ve got three more, and I’ve seen their acquisition conditions,” Cross said. “Now I have a clue how to get the rest of the hidden Uniques. This game seems to be run by stupid adults, so I’m sure I’m right.”
“That’s… a genius for you.”
“If I remember correctly, there are 500 Uniques hidden in this game, and currently there are about 100 Uniques that have been found. If you follow my instructions, I’ll let all the elementary school students who belong to Second Stage get these Uniques for themselves,” Cross said.
It’s a statement from a boy who believes himself a genius. The four other members, excluding Ogre, were excited. They could also get Unique Equipment and win against adults, in style. They’ve dreamed of it. There no longer had a thought to spare for the adult players who’d shown them kindness.
“I want them!”
“I’m begging you, Cross-kun!”
“If we can get Uniques, other guys will join, right?”
“Fufu, that’s right,” Cross said. “In order to win, we need to increase our numbers a little more.”
Looking at the happy elementary school students, Cross seemed to start talking to himself than everyone around him.
“We will be graduating from elementary school this year, too. Then, we won’t have time to play games like this anymore. So, since it’ll be our last memories of this time… let’s go to war with the adults. Fufu, it’s going to be so much fun.’
Ogre was the only one who remained uninterested in Cross’s monologue-like muttering.
T/N: If you’ll indulge me for a moment, Cross has also been failed by the system, he’s definitely a special-needs student just like Guiltia is. Instead of trying to catch up with the others at the base line, however, I get the sense that he hasn’t been sufficiently challenged, engaged, and socialized properly, which is why he seems to feel bored and above everyone at the level he’s stuck at.
This won’t end well for Cross if he isn’t corrected soon. Gifted kids oftentimes grow up to be burnt-out adults.
