Chapter 15: World Training Camp
Translator: CKtalon
There were three people sitting in Old Gu’s office. Old Gu, the leading administrator of today’s trial, Li Changqing, and the slender-eyed man. Old Gu addressed him as Jin Zhenhuan.
“Old Gu, do you want to deal with Li Xiu first?” Li Changqing asked Old Gu.
“No rush. Now that Bandit wants to team up with that punk, killing Li Xiu now is equivalent to cutting off Bandit’s path to survival. We mustn’t push her into a corner. She’s still useful,” Old Gu said with a smile.
“Bandit knows that trial better than us. What if…” Li Changqing frowned, not agreeing with Old Gu.
“There are no what-ifs. We have to give her hope, but we can’t allow her to really have hope,” Old Gu said meaningfully.
“You mean… to kill Li Xiu before the final trial begins?” Li Changqing immediately understood what Old Gu meant.
“Let him live for now. Give Bandit some hope to prevent her from going rogue. She might be of use in the future,” said Old Gu.
“Got it.” Li Changqing nodded with a smile.
“Old Gu, let me finish Li Xiu when the time comes.” Jin Zhenhuan suddenly spoke in a tone that didn’t accept any questioning.
“Director Jin, why do you care about him? Although Li Xiu is a little smart and resourceful, he’s nothing compared to you. Is it worth it for you to dirty your hands?” Old Gu carefully probed.
“I want to personally collect the debt he owes me.” When he mentioned Li Xiu, Jin Zhenhuan’s slender eyes shimmered with a strange hint of color.
“As you wish.” Old Gu naturally didn’t object and agreed with a smile.
When Li Xiu woke up, Bandit was already packing his things.
After a while, the ear-piercing alarm sounded again.
When they arrived in front of the blue stone gate again, the administrators didn’t cause trouble for Li Xiu and Bandit. They directly opened the Trial Gate.
Li Xiu followed everyone into the Trial Gate. Just as Bandit had predicted, this was an E-class trial. It was the lowest difficulty.
A basketball hoop appeared in the middle of the court. They were to try shooting from the free-throw line ten times. As long as one scored once, one would clear the trial.
Even for people who didn’t know how to play basketball, they should be able to score one or two out of ten balls. The trial was indeed very simple.
Li Xiu looked around and realized that Jin Zhenhuan was looking at him from afar. He had a smile on his face, but there was unfriendliness in his eyes.
Who is this fellow? Li Xiu really couldn’t recall when he had interacted with this person.
However, from the look in his eyes, he seemed to have a huge grudge with Li Xiu.
“Have we met?” Li Xiu walked in front of Jin Zhenhuan and asked. He had to figure out who this person was.
If this person knew his identity as a Demon Suiter, Li Xiu was certain that he was in grave danger.
“You really don’t remember me?” Anger flashed in Jin Zhenhuan’s eyes.
“Does that mean we know each other?” Li Xiu stared at Jin Zhenhuan’s face and racked his memories, but he still couldn’t recall when he had seen the man in front of him.
“World Training Camp.” Jin Zhenhuan stared at Li Xiu and said the name of an organization.
Li Xiu was slightly taken aback before he immediately recalled.
Back when he was a child, he had gone to the World Training Camp for training. It was an organization that discovered and nurtured Demon Suiters.
Back then, Li Xiu had passed the World Training Camp’s test due to him having the talent to become a Demon Suiter. He had also been invited to join the training camp, but Li Xiu didn’t join it.
Li Xiu didn’t take such matters to heart at all. If Jin Zhenhuan hadn’t mentioned it, he would have forgotten about it.
Li Xiu frowned slightly. He didn’t remember having a conflict with anyone in the World Training Camp, nor did he remember seeing Jin Zhenhuan.
Of course, even if they had really met, it was normal for Li Xiu not to recognize him. After all, they were still children back then. They were less than ten years old.
Jin Zhenhuan was about the same age. Who could recognize a grown-up him?
“You finally remember. That’s right. I’m Jin Zhenhuan. I competed with you for first place in the test.” Seeing Li Xiu silent, Jin Zhenhuan thought that he had finally remembered.
“Was there such a person back then? I don’t remember.” Li Xiu was enlightened, but he still couldn’t recall who Jin Zhenhuan was.
The corners of Jin Zhenhuan’s eyes twitched as killing intent flashed in his eyes. After a while, he suddenly sneered and said, “It’s normal that you don’t remember. The genius youth who was yearned by the training camp back then has now fallen to such a state. If it were me, I wouldn’t want to recall the past either.”
“There shouldn’t be any grudge between us, right?” Li Xiu said to Jin Zhenhuan.
The World Training Camp didn’t only recruit one student. Being first didn’t affect Jin Zhenhuan’s matriculation. Furthermore, Li Xiu hadn’t been admitted into the World Training Camp.
“If I, Jin Zhenhuan, want to do something, I have to be the best. Since I can’t become the best Demon Suiter, I’ll become the strongest trial-taker. It’s because of you that I gave up the chance to become a Demon Suiter. I trained myself hard to become the strongest trial-taker.” Jin Zhenhuan stared at Li Xiu with a mocking expression as he continued, “I originally thought that I would have a chance to fight you again in the future, but I never expected you to be reduced to such a state. Not to mention a Demon Suiter, even as a trial-taker, you’ve failed terribly. How misguided I was back then. If I had known that you were such a failure, I wouldn’t have given up the chance to become a Demon Suiter for you.”
“It looks like the trial back then dealt you a huge blow,” Li Xiu said in thought.
Jin Zhenhuan’s smile froze as he stared intently at Li Xiu. “It’s best you don’t try to anger me again. You should know very well that your life is in my hands now. You can only live if I permit it. If I want you dead, you won’t live.”
“So that means you are one of Old Gu’s?” Li Xiu asked.
“You’re wrong. You should say that Old Gu is one of mine.” Jin Zhenhuan teased, “Now, you should understand who’s in charge of your life and death.”
“It’s you,” Li Xiu said calmly.
“You can beg me. Perhaps I’ll give you a way out.” The corners of Jin Zhenhuan’s mouth curled up slightly as though he stood high and mighty.
Li Xiu laughed. “You won’t kill me.”
“Do you think I don’t dare kill you?” Jin Zhenhuan’s expression darkened.
“It’s not that you don’t dare. A stubborn person like you won’t kill me unless you defeat me,” Li Xiu said.
“You’re right. I won’t kill you. If I want you dead, it’ll happen only after I defeat you. Since you are also a trial-taker now, I’ll let you see what a true trial-taker is. I’ll make you lose completely in the trial and let you die in peace,” Jin Zhenhuan said coldly.
