Chapter 28 Dead Skin
Crack! Crack!
Cracks appeared on the milky-white translucent eggshell, and in the blink of an eye, the Demon Spirit Egg shattered. What looked like an oversized silkworm rolled out.
This fellow’s body was also translucent and milky-white. It didn’t look like a body of flesh and blood but like a work of art carved from crystal jade.
After the Demon Spirit tumbled to the ground, it twisted its body adorably as if it struggled to raise its head.
The moment he saw the Demon Spirit, he immediately grabbed the Demon Suit without any hesitation and resonated with it.
The box-like Demon Suit disintegrated and wrapped around Li Xiu’s body.
The components had already stuck to Li Xiu, but before they could completely fuse, the Demon Spirit on the ground suddenly leaped up like a white bolt of lightning. It didn’t give Li Xiu a chance to react and burrowed into the gap in the incomplete Demon Spirit.
The gap was under Li Xiu’s armpit, and the Demon Spirit’s chubby body quickly twisted. It was unknown how it did it, but it actually fused into Li Xiu’s skin through his clothes. In the blink of an eye, nearly half of its body had burrowed in, leaving only half of its body twisting frantically outside.
Li Xiu reached out and grabbed the Demon Spirit’s body. He exerted all his strength with his five fingers wrapped in the Demon Suit, but he failed to pull the Demon Spirit out. Instead, it burrowed deeper.
Li Xiu made a prompt decision. Demon Light erupted from his palm, intending to destroy the remaining half of the Demon Spirit’s body.
The power unleashed by Demon Light struck the crystalline body, only cracking the skin. Under the pain, the Demon Light burrowed in even faster, instantly completing its task.
An egg-sized bump appeared under Li Xiu’s skin before quickly moving around his body. Li Xiu steeled his mind and didn’t hesitate to extend his five fingers to grab his chest muscles, tearing open his skin and grabbing the bump that had wandered there.
The power of the Demon Suit was maximized by Li Xiu. Demon Light erupted from his palm like a miniature sun, in a bid to completely destroy the Demon Spirit in his palm that was connected to his flesh and blood.
Unfortunately, this Demon Suit was an old model. Moreover, it was only a low-end product created from an E-class Demon Core. The Demon Light it could unleash wasn’t strong enough.
A full-powered Demon Light strike only tore open cracks in the Demon Spirit’s body, and clear liquid seeped out of the cracks.
Li Xiu was alarmed. Although it was only an E-class Demon Suit, this Demon Spirit was a newborn. It was already astonishing that it could withstand such a strike.
Without any hesitation, he threw out the flesh and blood in his hand, as well as the infant Demon Spirit.
But when the flesh and blood were sent flying, the infant Demon Spirit stuck to Li Xiu’s right palm like superglue.
What was even more terrifying was that the body of the infant Demon Spirit quickly seeped into the Demon Suit-wrapped palm and into Li Xiu’s right hand.
Li Xiu immediately removed the Demon Suit, but that took time. By the time the Demon Suit in his palm was removed, the Demon Spirit had already burrowed into his palm. The bulge in his skin was so low that it was almost imperceivable.
Without thinking, Li Xiu’s left hand—which was still wrapped in the Demon Suitproduced Demon Light, turning into a blade-like beam of light that slashed at his right hand.
He had fought Demon Spirits for years, but he had never seen such a Demon Spirit.
A Demon Suit created by a Demon Core had a natural restraining effect on Demon Spirits and could prevent their bodies from regenerating
Although E-class Demon Suits were relatively low-level and could be easily shattered by high-level Demon Spirits, this was the first time Li Xiu had encountered a Demon Spirit that could directly penetrate a Demon Suit.
Death was almost a certainty if it seeped into his body. Losing a hand was better than losing his life.
Clang!
The Demon Light struck his wrist, but there was the sound of jade colliding. Only a bloody gash appeared on his wrist, and his flesh split open, but his bones on the inside weren’t broken.
The white bone seemed to be coated with a layer of milky-white jade-like membrane. Moreover, the milky-white membrane was still flowing as it traveled up the arm bone.
Li Xiu produced Demon Light again and turned it into a blade beam that slashed higher up his arm time and time again. He saw his flesh split open, but the bones inside weren’t damaged because of the crystal membrane. It was still spreading upward.
Li Xiu steeled his heart and slashed at his shoulder. He would rather lose an arm than let the Demon Spirit infant invade his body.
The Demon Light struck the shoulder joint, but he heard a strange sound. It was a little different from before. Other than the sound of flesh splitting and bones colliding, there seemed to be the sound of something shattering.
Li Xiu didn’t continue using Demon Light to slash at his body because if he continued, he wouldn’t just lose his arm; he would even lose his life.
Strangely, the crystal membrane didn’t continue spreading. Instead, it gradually evaporated like steam.
As the crystal membrane evaporated, the flesh that had been sliced open by Demon Light slowly healed, and it didn’t take long for it to scab over.
After a while, the scabs fell off, leaving only pink scars. The new skin looked pink and translucent.
He looked down at his chest. The chest muscles that Li Xiu had tore open were the same. The flesh that had been torn off had actually grown back.
Is it dead? Li Xiu wasn’t sure. It looked like it had been killed; otherwise, why would the infant Demon Spirit give up?
Li Xiu took off the Demon Suit and checked his body. He didn’t find anything abnormal, which made him heave a sigh of relief.
What kind of Demon Spirit is this? I’ve never seen it before. A newborn infant is already so terrifying; I wonder how strong it will be when it reaches adulthood. I have to leave this place as soon as possible. If the parents of the infant Demon Spirit return, I’ll be in big trouble. The E-class Demon Suit will probably be useless. Li Xiu looked at the tunnel in front of him that was still sealed off and relaxed.
The location where the Demon Spirit Egg was located was blocked, which means that the Demon Spirit that gave birth to it wouldn’t return anytime soon.
Li Xiu hesitated for a moment before deciding to leave after completing the S-class trial. The temptation of an S-class skill made him willing to take some risks. Otherwise, he didn’t know when he would be able to clear the next S-class trial after leaving.
When he returned to the base, Bandit was already awake and sitting there waiting for him.
“How soon can the S-class trial begin?” Li Xiu asked the bandit.
“Four hours, I think.” Bandit looked at the phone she had found in the base and replied after calculating the time.
“Let’s finish the trial as soon as possible and leave this place.” With that said, Li Xiu lay on the bed and seized the time to recover his stamina.
He was a little tired from fighting the infant Demon Spirit.
As he slept, Li Xiu felt an itch on his right arm. He reached out to scratch it, but he tore his skin.
Li Xiu immediately jolted awake, thinking that he had scratched open a new wound. However, when he sat up and took a closer look, he realized that it wasn’t the case.
The spot where he scratched wasn’t where the scars were, but the dead skin on his arm.
Li Xiu’s expression changed slightly. He had seen dead skin grow on hands and feet, but he had never seen dead skin grow on arms.
The dead skin was like a layer of translucent white plastic. From the hole, Li Xiu tore down, tearing off a layer of dead skin from his entire arm.
The new skin under the dead skin was fair and crystalline, and it looked like the skin of a newborn baby. Even the scars from before couldn’t be seen.
