Chapter 33 Giant Demon Spirit
This was the most bizarre turn of events Li Xiu had encountered in his life. Not only could the metal sarcophagus drop Demon Cores, but it could also drop skill rings.
Li Xiu knew that skill rings only had a chance of appearing after the final round in a trial. Furthermore, they could only be used on the spot and couldn’t be taken out of the trial grounds.
Now that the skill ring was lying on the ground, he might be able to take it out.
Everything on him had unfortunately vanished after he entered the trial grounds. He only wore a tight white robe that appeared out of nowhere. There was nothing that could store the skill ring.
Helpless, Li Xiu could only pick up the skill ring with his hand. To his pleasant surprise, the skill ring didn’t react. He held it in his palm.
The skill ring can really be taken out of the trial grounds. Li Xiu was pleasantly surprised.
Before he could come up with any other idea, he was sent out of this bizarre place and returned to the blue stone gate.
Bandit was standing there waiting for him. She didn’t mention the trial upon seeing him, instead only to ask Li Xiu if he had obtained the “Forfeit” skill.
“No, there was no skill among the reward options.” Li Xiu shook his head.
Bandit didn’t say anything else and only nodded.
“Let’s go. We have to leave this place as soon as possible.” Li Xiu stuffed his spoils into his pocket before taking the things he had plundered from the base. He headed for the tunnel that led to the outside world with Bandit.
Bandit had already done packing. She carried a huge backpack and followed Li Xiu out.
The two of them arrived at the spot where Li Xiu had discovered the Demon Spirit Egg.
The tunnel outside was still blocked, making Li Xiu heave a sigh of relief.
The Demon Spirit hadn’t returned, and the Longevity Heaven personnel hadn’t arrived. They still had time to evacuate.
Li Xiu grabbed the Demon Suit box and donned it. Then, he moved the rubble blocking the tunnel and slowly opened up a passage.
Bandit also helped Li Xiu move the rubble to the back. After digging for dozens of meters, the tunnel ahead finally cleared.
Although they were both exhausted, they didn’t take a break. They followed the tunnel out of Abyss Base.
The air mixed with the smell of mud and grass made Li Xiu’s nose twitch. He took a few deep breaths before exhaling.
There was no way to tell day from night in the base. Only upon exiting it did he realize that it was late at night outside. The stars filled the dark-blue sky, and a crescent moon hung there, emitting a bright white halo.
“Where do we go?” Bandit looked at Li Xiu. She had been inside for three years and knew almost nothing about the outside world. All she could do was follow Li Xiu.
Li Xiu sized up his surroundings. He had been drugged with anesthesia on his trip here. In fact, he didn’t know where he was.
He took out his phone and used the phone’s compass function to get his bearings. After confirming a direction, Li Xiu led Bandit into the deep mountain forest.
It didn’t matter where he went as long as he could leave the Abyss Base.
There was no well-trodden path in this godforsaken place. Li Xiu led the way in his Demon Suit, chopping down trees and slaying snakes whenever he encountered them. It didn’t take much effort.
They walked until dawn, but the two of them remained deep in the mountains. They didn’t find any traces of human civilization.
Li Xiu wanted to continue, but when he turned to look at Bandit, he saw that her clothes were almost drenched in sweat as she panted. Furthermore, her clothes had been torn by the vines, revealing many bloody marks on her arms. She had probably been scratched by the vines.
Although her physique was better than Li Xiu’s, Li Xiu had the Demon Suit. It made things easier for him.
Bandit had a stubborn personality. Although she had reached her limit, she didn’t request Li Xiu to stop for a break.
“Let’s take a break.” Li Xiu found a relatively dry place to stop. He also needed to regain his stamina.
Bandit sat down against a tree, got out a water bottle, and took a big gulp before panting heavily.
“Any plans for the future?” Li Xiu asked after Bandit’s breathing calmed down.
“Kill God.” Bandit stared at Li Xiu and slowly said, “Does our agreement still count?”
“Of course, but before that, I have to figure out who the Demon Suiter you mentioned is,” Li Xiu said.
Bandit glanced at Li Xiu and kept silent. She took out a compressed biscuit and ate it.
Suddenly, Li Xiu pounced on Bandit and covered her mouth with one hand. He whispered into her ear, “Don’t make a sound.”
Bandit was already prepared to counterattack. When she heard Li Xiu’s voice, she stopped and listened attentively like Li Xiu.
Boom… Boom…
They vaguely heard footsteps coming from afar. The sound was getting louder and closer.
Li Xiu propped himself up and gestured for Bandit to carefully crawl into the grass beside him.
The two of them lay in the grass and looked in the direction of the sound that grew louder and louder as they heard the sound of trees snapping and falling.
The ground seemed to tremble with the footsteps. Every step was like an earthquake; their expressions fell with every step.
Boom!
A huge foot descended from the sky, shattering the tall trees. The ground sank nearly half a meter deep, leaving a huge footprint.
Covered in a snow-white carapace, it had three eyes and a curved horn on its head. It was like a giant robot as it lumbered through the forest.
Describing him as lumbering through the forest was a misnomer—he was trampling the forest beneath his feet.
The giant trees that were more than ten meters tall were like weeds by the side of the road. They were crushed to pieces as huge footprints were left in his wake.
Seeing the terrifying Demon Spirit walk past them, Li Xiu and Bandit lay in the grass, not daring to move a muscle.
Li Xiu had no intention of fighting the Demon Spirit. From his experience, a Demon Spirit of this size was most likely above A-class, or even S-class.
If he wore his usual S-class Demon Suit, he would still have a fighting chance. With his current Demon Suit, rushing out was no different from tempting fate.
Thankfully, the Demon Spirit didn’t discover them and walked straight past them. The duo secretly heaved a sigh of relief.
“Let’s follow the direction the Demon Spirit took,” Li Xiu suddenly said as he looked in the direction the Demon Spirit had gone.
Demon Spirits typically didn’t travel in groups, especially such terrifying Demon Spirits. As long as it was around, no other Demon Spirit would be in its vicinity.
Li Xiu didn’t know where they were, but there were Demon Spirits roaming freely. It was obvious that they were still very far from human civilization. They might encounter other Demon Spirits on the way.
Not all Demon Spirits were as slow as the Demon Spirit they encountered. Some Demon Spirits could discover the existence of humans from hundreds of meters away. Killing ordinary humans was as easy as chopping vegetables.
However, as long as one followed the path of the Demon Spirit, the chances of encountering other Demon Spirits were much lower. Furthermore, there was a high chance of reaching a human city.
Typically, the descent of a Demon Spirit was ultimately followed by it turning up at human civilizations.
