Chapter 10 – Part 1
An empty annex greeted Eden when he left the shower.
Exactly like Elysia had left the lights on.
In the cold silence, Eden’s shoulders drooped.
‘Why did you leave?’
I didn’t eat the fruit you brought, so I thought you’d stay with me.
In an unexpected result, Eden shuffled his shackles and sat down on the bed Elysia had asked him to sit on.
Water dripped from Eden’s hair that was not properly dried off.
– I will come back tomorrow.
Turning around, Eden crawled toward the pillow.
As he laid his head on the pillow, he pondered on what Elysia had said to him.
‘If you wash up and sleep well, tomorrow will come.’
Eden snuggled into the duvet and forcibly closed his eyes.
The size of the bed was too big for Eden’s build.
Same goes for the annex.
Elysia thought that the annex was more suitable to be called a warehouse, nevertheless it was too spacious for Eden to live by himself.
A place with no lights on.
Vague fear struck Eden again.
After waking up in the morning and busily studying and working simultaneously, it was finally lunchtime.
With food still in her mouth, Elysia was planning to see Eden after lunch.
And then, Elysia’s mouth gaped slightly at the sudden thought that came into her mind.
‘Ah. I forgot to inquire what he wanted to eat.’
I keep making mistakes without realizing it whenever I try to do something unplanned.
‘Fruits are the only thing I can bring without being caught.’
Elysia was not greedy enough to sneak rice after eating her meals.
‘Maybe I should bring snacks, like candies.’
The more deeply troubled her mind was, the slower Elysia’s hand became.
Ariel was diligently picking out broccoli today and looked at Elysia with a puzzled face.
Originally, it was during this time that Elysia would immediately nag Ariel after noticing her picky eating habits.
However, this time, Elysia was only staring down at her plate, lost in her thoughts.
“Unnie?”
“Yes?”
An immediate reply came from Elysia’s mouth out of reflex.
Elysia’s face, who heard the calling of Sister and looked up, even looked unfamiliar.
“Is something wrong?”
“…No. Nothing’s wrong.”
I’m a picky eater.
Elysia kept her promise with Ariel to have lunch together.
However, Ariel felt that Elysia’s mind was elsewhere.
As attest to it, Elysia looked at her but did not comment on Ariel’s eating habits.
The corners of Ariel’s mouth drooped downward.
‘I think I should bring a book with me when I go today.’
Elysia’s mind that was used to be filled with Ariel, is now filled with Eden these days.
Guilt, sympathy, and opportunity.
Elysia had only those three feelings for Eden.
She wanted to help Eden, and she also wanted to use him.
It was something bound to happen anyway, so I should make use of it.
“Are you bringing a book today?”
Whenever Elysia came to the annex, she always had something in her hands.
Today, it was a book.
“Yes. Just in case he’s bored.”
It’s a good idea, right?
With a smug look, Elysia lifted a thin book. Rizbeth rolled his eyes and read the title of the book.
It’s a children’s book that Rizbeth was familiar with.
“If you find it boring, you don’t have to come.”
“It’s not that it’s boring. I’m talking about Eden.”
Coming to the annex is all about paying attention and being bored with what you have brought.
Elysia thought that her heart was frozen to death.
“. . . . .”
Today, Rizbeth immediately opened the door to see if there was anything else to ask.
Elysia walked through the door with staggered steps.
Squeak–
The door immediately closed.
Thanks to Elysia’s short visit after lunch, Rizbeth did not accompany them as a guardian today.
As the door closed, Elysia lowered her gaze.
Even today, a plate was placed at her feet.
If there’s any difference from yesterday, it was that Eden was sitting in bed today.
“I’m here.”
Elysia raised her head and looked at Eden.
Eden was looking at Elysia the second she entered and immediately made eye contact with her.
“Come to think of it, I forgot to ask you yesterday if there was anything you wish to eat.”
As she entered, Elysia approached Eden briskly and held up a book.
Without glancing an eye to the book that was only at the height below of her neck, Eden only continued to stare at Elysia.
“You don’t like to read?”
Elysia tossed away the book on the bed, thinking that she might have brought it for nothing.
She then rummaged through her pockets and fished out a candy.
“Do you know candy?”
Elysia asked, even though she knew there was a common sense remained in Eden’s mind.
“I mean, do you like candies?”
She then immediately changed the question.
“. . . . .”
Eden didn’t respond.
