Chapter 48
Surprised by Kylian removing the stola wrapped around her head, Anais hurriedly grabbed his hand and tried to shake him off.
Kylian released his hand from her neck. And threw the stola on the floor. After leaving his hand, the stola fell down the railing and faded away into the darkness.
“What the hell is this?”
Kylian was blatantly laughing. Anais knew that Kylian was whom Lilith mentioned before, ‘someone who she wants to look good for’. So, to hide her shortened hair, she tried to cover it with her hand.
But her hair had been cut in such an ugly manner. Her hair, which was messed up with a dagger, didn’t fit her at all. Some parts were chopped incredibly short, some parts still reached her chin. Most of her hair didn’t go past her shoulders.
“It matches you well. Lilith Isadora.”
“Uh…”
Her eyes grew hot. But she didn’t want to cry.
“Yes, I am pretty with this hair.”
“You’re talking nonsense.”
“Now that you’ve seen it, get out of the way.”
Anais was feeling guilty. All of a sudden, this was how she presented herself to Kylian. Even so, her head was confused because she couldn’t figure out how Lilith had manipulated him and how that awakened his hatred towards her.
Before Anais died, the two of them really had a lot of time together. Besides that, they got along well and were even like lovers.
But what happened?
“Your Majesty. With Lilith… We, we were lovers. Fated… uht… !”
“You have a poor memory, just like a bird.”
“Your Majesty, no!”
“Second Bishop. Are my warnings a joke to you?”
“No! This person is not Saintess Lilith!”
“What nonsense are you talking about?”
“At that time, the High Priest lied!”
Phileal spoke, startled by Kylian who pressed Anais’ neck again very hard.
“Second Bishop.”
“…Yes.”
“Can you speak of the High Priest like that just because of a woman like this?”
“The High Priest is like my family. So when he does something wrong, I have to correct it.”
Phileal acted fearfully but did not take his eyes off Kylian.
“Does that mean betraying your family?”
“I can’t just watch them go down the wrong path, right?”
“Hah.”
Kylian laughed openly at him. It was funny that a priest of Death, who had already given up on his duty as a human, would say such a thing.
“Calm down, Second bishop Phileal.”
At that moment, Anais tried to push his arm away. But rather, she couldn’t let go of his hand. Anais, standing on tiptoe under Kylian’s arm, staggered and fell down the stairs.
“N-No!”
As Anais fell, Kylian’s face had a look of bewilderment.
Anais blacked out. Her vision darkened as if a light had been turned off, and she passed out.
The place where Anais reawakened was not the place she had been assigned after taking on the handmaid’s work.
“Ugh…”
The moment she tried to raise her body, she curled up immediately because the pain was so immense. It felt as if all the bones in her body had been broken and reattached and the blood was forced to circulate. Her body was exceedingly warm. Her eyes were cold as if from a fever, her nose was hot and her lips were dry.
“Phileal.”
When she opened her eyes and looked around, this was Phileal’s room. Anais sighed and looked at him as he lay down next to her and called his name. Seeing that the divine power she felt from him had weakened, it was clear that he also shared his energy.
“Haa…”
Turning her head, she was surprised to see her hair growing back on the pillow. Apparently, while regenerating her body, her hair came back as well. In addition, the color was still blue.
She leaned back against the pillow for a moment and tried to catch her breath. But it wasn’t easy.
“Ugh…!”
She suddenly felt very dizzy. Even the pain that came through her body was so great that she felt sick to her stomach.
From her fingertips to her toes, there was pain everywhere. Lilith’s body was riddled with pain, as if she was trying to spit out a soul that didn’t fit.
“N,o….”
Anais feared that she would lose consciousness, and the thought of it made her anxious. If she were to disappear like this, nothing would be left.
Kylian would continue to do terrible deeds, and it was unknown how long the fake that he had mistaken as Anais would stay by his side. She couldn’t breathe as if something was squeezing her heart.
“Haa…!”
Still, she bit her lip to keep herself awake. Her pain did not subside easily. Pain ran through her bloodstream with every breath she took. Anais, unaware of the tears flowing down her face, closed her eyes to make herself feel better.
Rather, when she closed her eyes, the pain felt more vivid. Still, she didn’t open her eyes. Closing her eyes gave her mental relief. Besides, the pain was like proof that she was still alive.
Not yet. She still couldn’t hand this body over to Lilith.
“Anais…!”
She opened her eyes at the sound of a call. Phileal, in surprise, took her hand and gave her energy again.
“Can… not….”
Her eyelids closed as he shared his energy.
After falling from the top of the Magic Tower, it took about a week for Anais to recover. She showed up after a week, but Kylian and the Empress were still talking to each other as if nothing had happened.
Phileal no longer pretended to be Leviathan. He stood next to Anais in his original priestly uniform, with his hood removed.
“Your Majesty, I heard that it’s the founding festival soon.”
“That’s right, Wife.”
The two were sitting in the imperial palace garden and enjoying tea. Anais suddenly realized that the wisteria flowers that Kylian had planted in the imperial palace were in full bloom. She knew it too. The fact that wisteria would have been deliberately planted here after she died.
“Ah.”
Kylian smiled shyly at the wisteria petals that fell on his hair. He thought the Empress would take it off.
“Oh my, Honey. Petals got stuck on my hair.”
“Yes, I see.”
He waited for a while Looking forward to being touched by his wife.
“Take it off. It’s weird.”
He felt a little sorry that Anais didn’t take it off like before. Even so, he tried to smile so as not to be disappointed with this one action.
