Chapter 17: Meet Once Again

Xi En roamed Lamigione until evening came. During his outing, he learned a lot of things.
For example, the coins they used in this world were gold, silver, and bronze coins which were not too different from the other alternate universes of sword and magic.
One bronze coin could buy an apple, a hundred were equivalent to a silver coin, while a hundred silver coins were worth a gold coin. Hence, a gold coin was the same as ten thousand bronze coins.
Usually, a gold coin was enough to feed a family of three for a month with some savings. It applied only to ordinary families whereby having a gold coin was considered fortunate.
However, for the Adventurers and nobles alike, it might not necessarily be true. While the regular items did not cost much, those that were associated with magic were incredibly expensive.
In this world, there were medicines which took time to heal and were barely effective. On the other hand, there were also healing potions which were highly effective that they seemed magical.
Xi En entered a potion store. He noticed that the cheapest revival potion cost three gold coins per bottle while the mana recovery potion per bottle was worth five gold coins. The goods in the store were expensive. Such potions were highly effective in healing injuries or restoring mana. For emergencies, having such a potion basically means an extra life.
Only people who had the “Alchemy” skill could craft the magic potions. Therefore, the potions were not cheap.
Other than the potions, this world had magical objects as well.
Even when one did not know how to use magic, one could own and use the magic in these objects. Similarly, only those with the “Engineering” skill could create them, thus the exorbitant price tag for these objects.
Since there were magic objects, there were magic weapons too.
Simply, they were weapons which could unleash magical effects which were beneficial in battles. Like the magic objects, the magic weapons could be handled by anyone. Naturally, the weapons were more expensive than the objects as they could only be crafted by those with a “Smithing” skill.
The magic items were the magnum opus of this world. Xi En was engrossed with the abundant choices he had and the novelty of these items.
Be it the potions, objects, or weapons, all of them required a precious mineral called the Magic Crystal as their material. It was one of the causes for the high prices.
The Magic Crystal was a mineral containing mana and could only be found in the rare mineral veins. It was a necessity for crafting the potions, objects, and weapons. It could replenish mana and was also a source for mana to deplete from. Due to its extreme importance, it was one of the strategic resources which the forces and the nations had been developing and yearned for.
Xi En gathered knowledge of the alternate universe from the vendors’ sales patter. Consequently, he had a rudimentary idea of this world.
For a smooth survival in the alternate universe, Xi En had to plan his livelihood properly. It was a pity that he was only registered as a temporary Adventurer in the Adventurers Guild. He could only officially begin his activities tomorrow. For now, he had to figure out how to pass his time.
Fortunately, he had dissected a few single-horned monsters before he left the forest. Although he left in a haste by hitching a ride on a griffin, he had brought some things along with him.
Like the hide that he used to wrap the Sacred Sword, it was exceptionally tough unlike other hides which tore easily upon contact with the sword’s tip. Besides, it was an excellent choice for warding off the cold at night. That was why Xi En took it along.
Some vendors recognized the piece of hide as the skin of a creature named the Sunken Scale Beast.
The skin of this monster was the toughest for monsters below Level 50. To capture it, however, one had to use high level magic or extremely potent magic weapons.
Due to its resilience, the skin of the Sunken Scale Beasts could be crafted into defense items. These items were in popular demand and were sought after by the Adventurers and the nobles. The vendors who were familiar with the hide even offered eighty gold coins to buy it from Xi En.
Xi En did not mind selling it. After all, one slash from his Sacred Sword was all it took to behead the monster which was said to be extremely difficult to capture. Similarly, the hide was skinned from the creature without too much effort. Hence, Xi En did not value it as much.
It was just that this hide was the only thing Xi En had which he could wrap his Sacred Sword with. He still had use for it and could not put it on sale.
In the end, what Xi En sold was not the hide he wrapped his Sacred Sword in, but the only other thing he brought with him which was the horn of the single-horned monsters.
According to the vendor, it was the horn of the Thornster which reached Level 30 when it turned into an adult monster.
The horn could be used to brew antidote magic potions or made into a dagger. Thornsters were gregarious monsters, however. Hence, it was difficult to find a lone Thornster which made the horn a relatively rare material.
The vendors lamented about Xi En’s good luck in encountering a lost and lone Thornster. Actually, he was too embarrassed to tell them that he did not take on an isolated Thornster. On the contrary, he had wiped out the entire flock.
Ultimately, the horn was sold for two gold coins. Xi En was no longer penniless.
Earning his first gold in the alternate universe, Xi En immediately bought himself an outfit and changed out of his torn and tattered clothes. He then found an inn where he stayed for a silver coin per day.
After ten long days, he finally got to stay somewhere fit for a human.
The first thing Xi En did upon checking in his room was to take a slow shower. He had only cleaned himself a few times in the river, which had monsters in it, when he was in the forest.
…
Night had crept in stealthily.
“Ah, nice.”
After his shower, Xi En lay on the bed. With a cleansed face and skin, he looked cozy and appeared quite pleased.
“Hah, it feels like all my worries are gone. I’m really made for a mundane life like this.”
Just when Xi En professed his sentiment, a laughter drifted into his ears.
“You’re the first Warrior to say so.”
Following the voice, the world began to spin.
Before Xi En could react, he was already up from the bed, standing on the floor. His room in the inn had turned into a pantheon.
In the center of the pantheon, a familiar beauty stood greeting him.
“Goddess?!”
Xi En widened his eyes.
Yup, he was back at the pantheon which he was summoned to in the first place.
