Why Defeat The Devil? - Chapter 31
Chapter 31: More Effort?
What Vivian finally conveyed to Xi En was that his growth in various aspects might be very high.
“Since you bypassed about ten levels and still managed to beat the Golem, your growth in various aspects must be very high in order for you to have this kind of achievement.”
This was what Vivian thought.
It was to be expected. Assuming their levels are the same, a strength warrior would definitely lose to a strength and defense warrior who might even use magic.
If one had high growth in all aspects, it meant that each and every ability would be greatly elevated during a level-up. The overall enhancement would be so much higher than those who only got to enhance one or two aspects.
At any rate, it was merely an assumption without considering other factors such as skills.
If one had battle skills and could upgrade them to a certain degree, things would be different then.
If the levels were likened to hardware, the skills would be considered software. A truly powerful capability could only be formed when one was equipped with both.
Hence, proficient experts would have adequately high levels at both the personal level as well as their skill level. If one only had a high personal level, it would be like a mentally challenged person with a well-developed physique while one who only had a high skill level would be like a person with brains but no brawn. In either case, it was not good.
In short, an individual’s ability was defined by the level one was at and the skills one had.
‘Perhaps, Xi En has the advantage of raising his levels but disadvantaged in acquiring skills,’ Vivian thought.
However, it was hardly possible.
It had been mentioned previously. To level up to Level 10, it meant that the individual must somehow be gifted. In that case, the individual should at least be able to acquire some simple skills.
‘So, what’s the matter?’ Vivian lapsed into deep thought while she studied Xi En.
At the same time, Xi En was engrossed in his own thoughts because of what the girl said.
He recalled one of the effects of his exclusive skill, “Heaven’s Grace”. It was not only amazing in acquiring skills and leveling, it could also maximize the upgrade of all the abilities during leveling’.
Prior to this, Xi En did not know what it meant. However, he understood it now.
‘This effect enabled all my abilities to receive the maximum upgrade whenever I level up.’
Whether it was his strength, endurance, mana or even his reflexes, all his abilities in all aspects were maximally enhanced during leveling. It was what this effect was all about.
In Vivian’s words, Xi En had the highest potential in all aspects.
Once again, it forced Xi En to be aware of how many cheats he started off with, and it rubbed him the wrong way.
‘The more cheats I have, the harder it’s for me to hide it,’ Xi En sighed mentally. He then thought of another question.
‘What about the enhancement in leveling that the Sacred Sword gave? What is it based on?’
Since the abilities upgraded during leveling varied from person to person and had to do with individual talent, capacity, and training orientation, which aspect of Xi En’s abilities did the Sacred Sword’s enhancement in leveling help? How much did it enhance?
‘It’s probably different from the “Heaven’s Grace” which maximizes all the enhancements in all my abilities, right?’
At the very least, Xi En felt that his mana remained the same when he used the Sacred Sword. As for his abilities in other aspects, they seemed to perform better when Xi En got to Level 100 based on his current level compared to the Level 100 which the Sacred Sword bestowed.
Xi En then came to a general conclusion.
‘The enhancement in level from the Sacred Sword probably applies to all abilities except the mana.’
As an example, Xi En’s abilities were upgraded to the maximum when he leveled up.
As for the Level +100 of the Sacred Sword, it was divided equally among the abilities except for the mana. Thus, Xi En’s abilities were increased at every level except for the mana.
In this way, when Xi En reached Level 100, all his abilities would have reached a thousand, thus making it better than the one hundred which came from the Sacred Sword’s Level +100.
Obviously, this was only an illustration.
From what Xi En felt, he would definitely be stronger at Level 100 compared to the Level 100 that the Sacred Sword bestowed.
The fact that the Sacred Sword did not enhance his mana contrasted starkly against Xi En’s own level-up whereby his mana would be enhanced as well.
‘But the Sacred Sword has other effects too. I can’t say that it’s worse than my exclusive skill.’
Actually, Xi En’s exclusive skill had other effects as well.
Both were powerful in their own way. In any case, Xi En had both of them.
‘Is this why the Goddess thinks I’ve the most potential in defeating the Devil?’
Xi En muttered to himself before…
“Alright.” Vivian clapped her hands to attract the group’s attention.
“We more or less understand Xi En’s capabilities now. He’s still new but I think his potential is greater than what we imagined.” Vivian looked at the girls and asked, “Don’t you girls think so?”
Diyeer, Lumiya, and Meilica kept quiet without giving a reply.
“What do you think? Diyeer?”
Kind of expecting this, Vivian then turned to Diyeer.
“Let’s continue our journey.”
There was no answer from Diyeer. After a moment of silence, that was what she uttered coldly before heading back to the horse carriage on her own.
“Wait… wait up!”
“Diyeer!”
Lumiya frantically followed her which prompted Meilica to trail after them.
The seeming evasion of the three girls put Vivian in a hard-pressed position, but Xi En did not think much of it. He prepared to return to the carriage as well.
When he walked past Vivian, the latter uttered to him, “Please excuse them.”
She sighed and said, “They don’t dislike you. It’s just that we had some bad experiences in the past. So, they’re naturally wary of you.”
Her words put a stop to Xi En’s steps. He could guess what happened after some musing.
“I can tell how much trouble they encountered as a team consisting solely of incredibly beautiful female Adventurers.”
Xi En empathized with her.
“I’ll keep my distance. Don’t worry.”
He smiled at Vivian before making his way back to the carriage.
Vivian shuddered in her powerless, semi-frozen state.
“But my intention wasn’t for you to keep your distance…”
She just wanted to tell him that it required more effort to get acquainted with the girls and gain their trust. She did not expect Xi En to decide to stay away without any hesitation.
“What a queer newbie,” Vivian murmured to herself as she returned to her seat.
The horse carriage, with its creaking wheels, continued on its journey toward its destination.
