Too bad he was not her son. There was no point. She couldn’t raise him.
Ji Weitian breathed out. She adjusted her emotions and continued organizing her files.
She finished filing the materials as quickly as she could. Just then, the shape of someone she could recognize if she were turned into ashes swept past her office window.
Qin Nanyu?
What was he sneaking around for?
Ji Weitian frowned. She gingerly took out her pepper spray and moved toward the window, looking out to spy on him. He was on the phone.
He didn’t look too pleased.
As he heard someone say something over the phone, his brows furrowed tightly. Then, he coolly replied, “I’m very busy now. You can take care of it.”
He hung up and headed toward the lab.
As he turned, he saw Ji Weitian inside the window. He paused as he noticed the pepper spray in her hand. His eyes darkened.
“Ms. Ji. It’s the middle of the day. Do you have a persecution complex?”
“…”
Old hate mixed with new hate as Ji Weitian grasped the pepper spray tightly. She wanted to spray him, or at least shut him up.
Qin Nanyu seemed to know her thoughts. He strolled to the window and looked at her through the security window. He uttered, “Need I remind you how many years in prison you’ll get for maliciously injuring someone?”
“Save your breath. I do know. Why else would you still be standing here?” Ji Weitian retorted.
Qin Nanyu arched his brows in surprise and complimented her, “there’s nothing worse than an educated thug, which is probably you, right?”
Ji Weitian: “…”
Ji Weitian realized this wasn’t praise. She glared at him, “you’re the thug! Your whole family are thugs!”
Chagrined, Qin Nanyu walked into the lab.
His retreating back seemed to mock Ji Weitian for her lack of qualifications to join the project.
Ji Weitian was so angry she almost cracked her teeth fillings. In the next second, her phone vibrated.
It was a text from Su Sumei, reminding her about the party at 7 pm tonight and how she should go to the Ji mansion ahead of time.
Su Sumei sounded so warm and sincere in the message, as if she was a nurturing mom concerned about her daughter.
Ji Weitian deleted the message after a glance.
It was like watching the performance of a drama queen.
She deleted the text, but she still needed to go to the Ji mansion.
Ji Mofeng couldn’t educate his own wife and daughter, but he was good at lecturing other parents. Whenever Ji Weitian defied him, he would call her foster parents and demand an explanation for their lack of parenting of her.
He’d say that if they can’t raise her, they should send her back to the Ji family.
Ji Weitian could almost laugh about such shameless ranting. But her foster parents were such gentle people. They already felt guilty about having her for all these years since they didn’t have a biological daughter.
Her foster parents were afraid of the rich Ji family suing them for the child, and constantly let Ji Mofeng have his way.
Ji Weitian tried to convince them otherwise, but they still cried and begged her to go along with her biological dad, and to think of it as paying back the Ji family.
