Chapter 16: Crisis

Ye Xingbei had a strange sort of problem with low blood sugar. It wasn’t a serious illness since she could relieve the symptoms just by eating some sugar or chocolate when she had an attack.
But if she could not replenish with sugar or chocolate in time, the consequences would be very severe.
Cold sweat, spasms, weakened limbs, a severe sensation of impending death and even the danger of suffocation.
Sensing that she was having an episode, she immediately took her carry-on bag and retrieved chocolates—that she carried with her all year-round—from within.
Under Gu Junzhu’s scrutiny, she unwrapped a piece of chocolate and stuffed it into her mouth.
But as soon as she tasted it, she felt that something was wrong.
The chocolate didn’t have that original type of sweetness but a dry, bitter sort of flavor.
She spat the chocolate out in a hurry and replaced it with another piece.
It was still the same.
When all the chocolates in the bag had been sampled by her, she realized that they were all identical—not a tinge of sweetness which meant that they didn’t contain an ounce of sugar.
Her complexion became paler and cold sweat soaked her entire body as her heart pumped exceptionally fast. With her whole body trembling and feeling the chills, a sense of impending death washed over her entire body swiftly.
Gu Junzhu felt something was amiss and commanded his driver in a cold voice, “Search for a nearby store and buy chocolates or sugar! Hurry!”
The driver agreed and stepped on the gas all the way. As the car accelerated, it weaved through the rush of traffic like a flowing light. Then, he slammed on the brakes and stopped along the road.
The bodyguard in the front passenger seat didn’t even wait for the car to come to a stop before he alighted and speedily ran towards the nearest store by the roadside.
Although Ye Xingbei was gasping heavily for breath, she still felt unable to breathe with the lack of oxygen.
As she clutched her heart in pain, her body was twitching slightly and her consciousness was already blurry.
When Gu Junzhu’s subordinates brought back the investigative reports concerning Ye Xingbei, they only skimmed through it and said that Ye Xingbei had a problem with hypoglycemia. Whenever she had an episode, she had to eat sugar or chocolates to relieve it.
Gu Junzhu didn’t take it seriously.
Hypoglycemia was a common illness. It wasn’t considered a novel disease and didn’t affect anything. Compared to that annoying sickness of his, it wasn’t anything serious.
But he never thought that when Ye Xingbei had an attack, it would be this dangerous.
He watched how Ye Xingbei collapsed on the seat and could barely even stay conscious. There was an unbearably painful look on her face as she panted for breath with great effort but she still couldn’t breathe; her small hands were stiffly grasping onto the clothes on her chest and her complexion was deathly pale. Gu Junzhu thought for a moment before he quickly placed Ye Xingbei onto the backseat and leaned over to give her cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR).
He had learned first aid before so he was very proficient with CPR.
But he had very severe mysophobia.
If this was another person—even though he wouldn’t watch him die without giving a hand, he definitely would not offer his personal assistance—to help the person to administer CPR.
Whenever he left the house, he was always accompanied by many bodyguards. He could randomly call a bodyguard to come over and the latter would know how to administer CPR.
But strangely, he didn’t want to allow other people to touch Ye Xingbei.
This was his future wife!
Even though she was only his wife by name, she was still his wife. So how could he let someone else lay a finger on her?
Furthermore, he didn’t seem to be opposed to having an intimate physical relationship with Ye Xingbei.
