Chapter 43: He Had Never Seen Chi Huan So Sad
Chi Huan woke up suddenly in the morning. Just as it was beginning to be light, she opened her eyes abruptly.
Her face was facing the uncurtained glass, and she could see the grey sky outside, as if she could feel the coolness.
In an instant, she breathed a sigh of relief and felt a sense of life after surviving a disaster from a nightmare. She raised her hand to rub her brows, wondering tiredly how she could have dreamed such an absurd dream.
But then, she froze, before the tip of her finger touched the corner of her brows.
The sleeves of the black shirt on her were too long, covering over the back of her hands and reaching down to her fingertips.
Apparently, it wasn’t her own shirt.
Chi Huan’s pupils dilated and there seemed to be a thunderbolt that exploded in her brain. The scene, in which contained the happenings of last night, flashed through her mind. She was still in a blank state, but she had already sat up.
The man who was sleeping next to her sat up.
Chi Huan looked at him and her blood was frozen all over in that second.
Mo Shiqian looked down at her and his short black hair was a little messy. His face was still handsome and his eyes were dark. After a while, he spoke slowly in a totally husky and deep voice, “I’m sorry.”
These words completely cut off Chi Huan’s already tense nerves.
Without hesitation, she raised her hand and slapped towards him.
Slap!
The man didn’t dodge or avoid her and accepted this slap.
Chi Huan looked at his expressionless face, breathing more and more quickly. Her chest heaved more and more violently and then she hit him in the face with the pillow beside her.
She couldn’t vent out her hatred at all by doing that. She hit him several times in succession, but to no avail. Even giving her a knife to stab him right now, might not do any good.
On the contrary, her tears poured out uncontrollably, and her sight blurred.
“Mo Shiqian, you…” she gasped. Because of too great a hatred and the fact that she was gnashing her teeth violently, she couldn’t even make out any curse words. She bit her lips and sobbed, her shoulders shaking.
She was always petite in people’s eyes, and now she looked even weaker, more desperate and helpless with her shoulders tucked away in the man’s too-wide shirt.
The man’s Adam’s apple rolled and his voice became more hoarse. “I’m sorry.”
Chi Huan bent one leg and lowered her head to rest on her knee. Her long hair was like seaweed and covered her tearful face. She did not seem to want to curse and question him, or maybe it was that she didn’t have the strength to do so. She could not understand why this should suddenly happen to her.
And the person who did this was Mo Shiqian. She didn’t even have the strength to ask why.
The world in the morning was particularly quiet, and all that could be heard in the bedroom was the woman’s low and uninterrupted sobs.
Mo Shiqian looked at the top of her hair for a moment. Without knowing how long had passed, he pulled open the quilt, got out of bed, picked up the pants that had been thrown on the floor, and put them on.
When he tried to put the rest of his clothes on as well, he looked around for a few seconds before he found that his shirt was on the woman in bed.
He had never seen Chi Huan looking so sad.
He knew it was not only because she had been forced to lose her virginity, not only because it was her wedding day today, but because the one who hurt her was him.
He knew from the first time that he got to know her, that she had little trust in the world. Back then, she was a teenage girl who distrusted her own parents, started earning money early and moved out quickly to live alone.
And over these last years, their life seemed to have no intersection, but she had never distrusted him. She probably never thought he would hurt her.
Chi Huan didn’t know how long she cried. She didn’t stop until all her strength was gone.
The man in the room made no other noise except to get out of bed, pick up his clothes and put them on.
But she knew that he hadn’t left.
